A Numerical Taxonomy of the Genus Rosularia (Dc.) Stapf from Pakistan and Kashmir

STAPF FROM PAKISTAN AND KASHMIR GHULAM RASOOL SARWAR* AND MUHAMMAD QAISER Centre for Plant Conservation, University of Karachi, Karachi-75270, Pakistan Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi, Pakistan Abstract Numerical analysis of the taxa belonging to the genus Rosularia (DC.) Stapf was carried out to find out their phenetic relationship. Data from different disciplines viz. general, pollen and seed morphology, chemistry and distribution pattern were used. As a result of cluster analysis two distinct groups are formed. Out of which one group consists of R. sedoides (Decne.) H. Ohba and R. alpestris A. Boriss. while other group comprises R. adenotricha (Wall. ex Edgew.) Jansson ssp. adenotricha , R. adenotricha ssp. chitralica, G.R. Sarwar, R. rosulata (Edgew.) H. Ohba and R. viguieri (Raym.-Hamet ex Frod.) G.R. Sarwar. Distribution maps of all the taxa, along with key to the taxa are also presented. Introduction studied the genus Rosularia and indicated that the genus is polyphyletic. Mayuzumi & Ohba (2004) analyzed the Rosularia is a small genus composed of 28 species, relationships within the genus Rosularia. Flowers usually bisexual, sometimes unisexual in Rhodiola (when plants dioecious or rarely gynodioecious), actinomorphic, (3 or)4– 6(–30)-merous. Sepals almost free or basally connate, persistent. Petals free or connate. Stamens as many as petals in 1 series or 2 × as many in 2 series. Nectar scales at or near base of carpels. It belongs to a Natura 2000 Special Protection Area and a Site of Community Interest. The city of Kastoria is located at the western part of the lake and just next to it, towards the centre of the lake, is a peninsula, a habitat island. In the framework of research concerning the flora of lake islands of Greece, one of the main objectives of the present study is to fill a gap concerning plant species richness of the habitat island within the protected Lake Kastoria, which is surrounded by the lake except for its north-western part where the border of the city of Kastoria is located. -

(Occasional Papers from the Herbarium Greuter – N° 1). — Bocconea. 25: 5-127. 2012. — ISSN 1120-4060 (print), 2280-3882 (online). The material collected during OPTIMA’s Iter Mediterraneum VII to the Peloponnese in 1995 has been revised. It comprises 2708 gatherings, each with 0 to 31 duplicates, collected in 53 numbered localities. The number of taxa (species or subspecies) represented is 1078. As many of the areas visited had been poorly explored before, a dozen of the taxa collected turned out to not to have been previously described, of which 9 (7 species, 2 subspecies) are described and named here (three more were published independently in the intervening years). They belong to the genera Allium, Asperula, Ballota, Klasea, Lolium, Minuartia, Nepeta, Oenanthe, and Trifolium. New combinations at the rank of subspecies (3) and variety (2) are also published. One of the species (Euphorbia aulacosperma) is first recorded for Europe, and several are new for the Peloponnese or had their known range of distribution significantly expanded. Critical notes draw attention to these cases and to taxonomic problems yet to be solved. An overview of the 11 Itinera Mediterranea that have taken place so far is presented, summarising their main results. Based on recent phylogenetic and morphological studies in Crassulaceae family, genus Prometheum was considered as independent genus. So far, two species viz. P. pilosum (under Sedum pilosum), and P. sempervivoides (under S. sempervivoides) has been reported from Iran. These two species and the new report are specific to mountains regions and they mostly occur at elevation above 2000 m.s.l. in the northwest of Iran (West and East Azerbaijan provinces). A short discussion on the taxonomic history of the genus Prometheum and the relative species, description, distribution, illustration, ecology and a key for existing three Iranian species is provided. Accepted 1 February, 2011 Some ecological characteristics and the flora of Gölcük District and its environs are represented in this study. All the greenery in the district during 2006 to 2009 vegetation seasons was explored. Plant samples were collected, dried, labeled, and determined according to the standard herbarium methods. At the end of the study, 461 species belonging to 295 genera and 85 families were identified. Seven of the identified taxa belonged to Pteridophyta while 454 belonged to Spermatopyta divisions. Eight taxa were Gymnospermae and 446 taxa were Angiospermae members (386 of them Dicots and 60 of them Monocots) in the Spermatophyta division. In addition, four taxa were endemics, so the endemism ratio was 0.87%. -

Agric., Omar Al-Mukhtar Univ., Libya Received: 20 May 2017 / Accepted: 28 June 2017 / Publication Date: 10 July 2017 ABSTRACT Survey of rare species in fifteen sites selected according to elevation of Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar, Libya of 828-232 m M.S.L. The site of Habun and Shahat old city is approaches in altitude from sea level, Habun site elevation 614 M.S.L. while the Shahat old city 580 m M.S.L, indicating the importance of the elevation importance in distribution of rare species in Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar. It was noticed that 85 % of species was perennial and 15 % was annuals. Herbs 43 %, Shrubs 40 %, 17 % Trees. Most of the species following Chamaephytes which represented 37 % of the species, while, Phanerophyte annual plants 30 % followed by Therophytes 15 %, Geophytes and Hemicryptophytes 7 %, as well as Hydrophytes 4 %. The variation in the number of plants per species gave two groups the first group was in the two sites of Slonta and Sidi Alhamri, about 781 – 802 m M.S.L., and 75 %, the second group is divided into the Shahat old city group, Cyrenaica is the largest plant diversity region in Libya.One species of Extinct was Narcissus tazetta L. in IUCN was Endangered. [email protected] Abstract: The present study was carried out during 2010 to 2011 to determine the important plants of in Jarjar oma in Al- Jabal Al- Akhdar-Libya, which includes about 179 species belonging to 51 families and 144 genera. They are represented by 75 perennial, 101 annual and 3 biennial species. Most characteristic families are Asteraceae containing 28 species, the dominance of Asteraceae indicates the range deterioration and dominance of unpalatable species. Fabaceae represented by 22 species, Poaceae including 18 species, Asparagaceae by 7 species, Brassicaceae by 6 species, Caryophyllaceae by 6 species, Euphorbiaceae by 6 species saline and rocky. Apiaceae, Lamiaceae and Polygonaceae including 5 species. Noticed that 56.2 % of species was annuals and 42.1 % was perennials and 1.7 % was biennials. Whereas autumn and summer increase perennials to reach 100 % more than spring and winter wherein increase annuals species to attain 55 %, to display disappear biennial in autumn and summer seasons in all habitat except rocky habitat in autumn. Out of the surveyed, Kinds of Forbs gave 109 species followed shrubs by 38 species, Grass 26 species, Trees 6 species. Of the most dominant species was broad-leaved (Forbs) plant species found in the region. According to palatability 107 species were palatable and 72 species were unpalatable. For annuals, 61 species were palatable and 40 species were unpalatable, while perennial, 44 species were palatable and 31 species were unpalatable. -

TORONTO CACTUS AND SUCCULENT CLUB ANNUAL SHOW – SCHEDULE RULES 1. Classes will be open only to members of the Toronto Cactus and Succulent Club. 2. For show purposes, a "Novice" is a person who has won less than 10 first place ribbons, when competing against another exhibitor, in Sections 1 through 3 of TC&SC shows (not including mini-shows). Records of first place ribbon winners’ totals are available from the show manager. 3. Exhibits must be the property of the exhibitor. 4. There is no limit in the number of exhibits per class or the number of classes which may be entered by any exhibitor. 5. All entries must be staged between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. 6. Exhibits are to be placed in the sections specified. An entry card must be placed with each exhibit. 7. Exhibitors are responsible for the correctness of their entry cards. Entry cards will be available when entries are received at the registration desk, or may be obtained earlier from the Show Manager for prior completion. 8. The authority for nomenclature and classification of cacti will be The Cactus Family by Edward F. Anderson. The Toronto Cactus and Succulent Club's Show Handbook , available at the registration desk, contains a listing of all succulent genera and the classes in which they may be entered. 9. The word "group" in class categories indicates that many genera are included. A listing of groups specified in this schedule follows the class descriptions.
