S/13806 Engli sb Annex rage 1 Communiqu6 issued by the Ministry of Ccfence of the People’s ---Republic of Angola on the acts of South African aggression-- against,the People's Republic of Angola in the month of WY 1980 In the month of January 1980, South African enemy forces carried out aerial reconnaissance missions over the areas of Ruacana, Kahama, Xangongo and N'giva. In C,unene, they attacked all visibly mobile vehicles ) principally those on the roads of the valley traversing N'giva and Xangongo. In the same period, South African enemy forces carried out no less than 44 violations against the People's Republic of Angola: 1 January - South Africans bombed the border outpost of ,Ochicango with heavy artillery, slightly wounding several border patrol officers. 4 January - At 0600 hours, two South African aircraft flew over the southern part of Chitado. 5 January - At 0530 hours, a South African Mirage-type aircraft flew over .the southern part of Chitado. 8 January - At 0920 hours, a flying object was spotted west of Cu~amato, flew over northern N'giva and disappeared south of N'giva. 9 January - At 1140 hours, two South African Impala-type aircraft flew over Namacunde and over the positions of the 11A Brigade. On the same day, at 1250 hours, two South African aircraft were spotted north of Xangongo and flew over the position of the third bat&lion of the 11A Brigade. 10 January - At 0850 hours, a flying object was spotted over Cuarrato and Namacunde which headed towards Cahama. 12 January - At 0929 hours, a South African aircraft flew over the southern part of Otchinjau. On the same day, at 1000 hours, two South African aircraft flew over Chit&o and Otchinjau at an altitude of 1,000 metres. Also on the same day, at 1145 hours, a flying object was spotted over Xangongo which headed south towards Cuamato. 13 January - At 1100 hours, two South African aircraft flew ovw Peu-Peu, Chicusse and Cahama at an approximate altitude of 4,500-6,000 metres. I... S/13806 English Allllf% Page 2 On the same day, one Angolan soldier was killed and two were wounded as they tried to defuse a South African mine planted in the area of Otchinjau. Also on the same day, we detec.ted South African-planted mines in the areas of Chitado, Chipa, Kalueque and Oncocua. ---14 January - At 1000 hous, two South African Mirage-type aircraft were spotted over northern Namacunde and later proceeded towards Mupa. On the same day, at 1250 hours, two South African aircraft sporadically fired at Nepolo, killing one civilian. 15 January - Socth African aircraft bombed an IFA vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture, 16 kilome-tres from the city of N'giva-Nehone, leaving eight persons dad and five wounded. 16 January - At 0750 hours, two South African Mirage-type aircraft bombed a SWAP0 base located 14 kilometres west of Mongua (Amuifi region), destroying one vehicle. On the same dray, at. 0900 hours, two South African aircraft were spotted north of Namacundc which proceeded north towards NT&a. 17 January - At 0515 hours, four So~uth African Mirage-type aircraft bombed the area of N&e, south of Xan&ongo. Agricultural areas were ruined. On the same day, at 0830 hours, a South African aircraft flew over southern and western C~umato. Also on the same day, at 0830 hours, two South African ?.Iirage-type a.ircraft were spotted in the southern direction of Namacunde, flew over Naulila and Chipa, and disappeared in the direction of Kalueque. And still on the same day, at 0900 hours, two South African Mirage-type aircraft were spotted south of Kalueque, flew over Naulila and Xangongo, and disappeared in a nor-them direction towards Cuamato. 18 January - At 0830 hours, three South African Mirage-type aircraft were spotted south of Namacur~de, flew over Naulila and Chipa, and disappeared in a northern direction towards Kalueque. At 0900 hours of the same day, two South African Mirage-type aircraft appeared south of Kalueque, flew over Naulila and Xangongo, and proceeded' in a northern direction towards Cuamato. 19 January - At 0500 hours, South African aircraft launched rockets at the marketplace of Caco. At 0845 of the same day, three South P~frican aircraft flew over Xangongo and lecope and disappeared in a. northern direction towards N'giva. And still on the same day, at 0930 hours, three South African aircraft bombed two army vehicles, on the road 3 kilometres from the valley of Cumc1.a.i. Rot'h vehicles were destroyed. 20 ,Tanuary - At 004, 5 hours, tvo South Rfrican Mirage-type aircraft flew over the arfa;f Omopanda and proceed~ed north towards N'~iva. On the same day, at 1045 hours, a South African aircraft pursued a vehicle from N'giva and headed tovards Xangongo. One of our troops m3s killed as he tried to jump off the vehicle while in motion. At 1145 hours of the same day, a South African aircraft flev over southern lamacund~e and disappeared east of Cuamato. Still on the same day, at 1257 hours, two South Afri.cnn [email protected] aircraft flew over the positions of the llii BriEa&. 23 January - At 0545 hours, South African airwaft bornbed the ~mrmlations of Xetequera~. There were no casusltirs. On the same day? at 0600 hours ~ two South African nircrn.ft flew "vcr the areas of Pe.u-Peu and vecope. Still. on the same day, at 0935 lmurs, a South .African aircraft flew over northern N'Eiva Andy proceeded vest tovardij N&one. On the same day, at 1545 hours, a South African aircraft anpear& over southern Kslneque, flew over I&una.cunde and headed towards Iir'giva. /. S/13806 English Annex Page 4 25 January - At 0305 hours, three South African aircraft appeared east of Chiede, flew over Namacunde, Cumando, N'giva, Naulila and Kalueque, and proceeded tor?ards Ondangua. On the same day, at 1330 hours, two South African aircraft appeared in the vicinity of i:Iupa, flew over Peu-Peu, Xangongo and F'ucope, and headed towards western N'giva. 26 January - Two Europeans-looking persons were spotted in Ni'giva wearing the uniform of our national army. 29 January - At 1030 hours, tvo South African aircraft were spotted north of Xetequera, flew over Peu-Peu and Cuamato, and disappeared south of cuamato . On the same day, at 1210 hours, trro flying objects were spotted over southern Cuamato which flew over Peu-.Peu and Sengongo, and headed south towards Kalueque. .
