The Department of History organized a one-day State Level Seminar on Media and Human Rights on 19th December 2014. The aim of the Seminar was to throw light on the issues and challenges of the electronic media and its role in upholding the values of human rights. Thiru.A.Kathir, Executive Director, EVIDENCE (a Non Governmental Organization) Madurai was the Chief Guest for the inaugural session and delivered the keynote address. In his address, he said that the significance and contribution of the media in a democratic nation like India is noteworthy and at the same time media should not misuse its power for marginal gains. Thiru.K.Arumugam, Director, Social Justice, Madurai spoke on the challenges in the beats for a human rights reporter. The Department of Economics organized a one-day State Level Seminar on Governance and Development on 9th January 2015. Dr.Venkatesh Athreya, M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai inaugurated the Seminar and addressed the students. Dr.Vinish Kumar Kathuria, Professor in Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai chaired the technical session on ‘Governance in the Era of liberalisation’. The staff and students from various colleges presented research papers. The department also conducts competitions every year for the students of Economics of the Southern Region. The prizes are sponsored by Malcom & Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust, Chennai a nonprofit organization interested in promoting teaching and research in Economics. The competitions like Essay writing and Elocution were conducted on 8th January 2015. Sixty Seven participants from 14 colleges of the Southern Region of Tamil Nadu took part actively in these competitions.

SEMINAR ON “DEMONETISATION: ISSUES AND IMPLICATIONS”
One Day UGC Sponsored Seminar on Demonetization: Issues and Implications was organized by the Department of Economics, Arul Anandar College on 14th December 2016. The Chief Guest Sri.S.Peter Alphonse, Former M.P. and M.L.A spoke on the above. He said that our Prime Minister has done, that other countries have not done. That is what is called Demonetisation. He also stated that demonetization is mainly to curb Black Money, counter feet money and to arrest the use of Black Money by terrorist. The total value of the currency demonetized during British period was only Rs.45 crores which made no harm to the public. But now almost everybody got affected. He cited with many examples to make the audience understand the concept, issues and its implications. VIGNESH KUMAR V.T. student of III year Physics, Arul Anandar College attempted a Guinness Record of Greatest Distance Cycled (without holding) on 09.02.2017 in the college grounds. He successfully completed the attempt by cycling a distance of 122 km nonstop for 6:53:23 hours. The previous record in the similar category is held by Mr. Eric of USA who cycled (without holding) a distance of 37.5km in one hour in 2009. According to Mr.V.T. Vignesh Kumar attempted this record to create awareness among the students and general public on the issue of ‘Global Warming’. He said that this attempt would motivate people to use bicycles and less use of fuel based vehicles. Mr. Solai E. Raja, Vice President, TN Olympic Association congratulated Vignesh Kumar on attempting this Guinness record. As a unique programme of our College to create polling awareness to students, Election of Students’ Secretaries of various associations was held through electronic poll on 7th July 2017. The inauguration and swearing in function of the Students Council was held on 14th July 2017. The newly elected women’s representative (Shift II) D.Josephine Sheela, welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest of the function was Hon.Justice Mr.K.Vivekanandan, Judge-District Munsif cum Judicial Magistrate, Usilampatti. In his address, he insisted that the students must develop interest in politics to become the future leaders of our nation and for this he urged the students to behave in a self-disciplined manner and work for the welfare of the society. International Women’s Day was commemorated at Arul Anandar College, Karumathur on 5th March, 2018. Mr.P.Samuthirakani, an acclaimed Director cum Actor was the Chief guest. In his keynote address, he said that womanhood ought to be celebrated throughout the year and not just on 8th March. He applauded Jesuit Management’s initiative in admitting women students and thereby opening the threshold for their empowerment. STUDENTS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES-Students’ Election
The Students’ Council Election was conducted on the campus on 13th July 2018 as part of healthy practices of the college and to give awareness on the voting rights. The electronic voting was formally inaugurated by Mr Solai M Raja, Vice President, Tamil Nadu Olympic Association, Tamil Nadu and Rev. Dr.S.Basil Xavier, Principal in his felicitations wished the students for fair and smooth conduct of the election. Nearly 3150 students cast their votes and elected their representatives in a democratic manner. The election for the posts of Fine Arts Secretary, Sports Secretary and Women Secretary were held separately for Shift I and Shift II this academic year. Previously, the candidates were permitted to present their election manifestos in the presence of the Core Committee and students on 12th July 2018. A. John Bosco, III B Sc Mathematics and K.Thayalan, III B Sc Physical Education were elected as Fine Arts Secretary for Shift I and Shift II respectively. M.Mutheeswaran III B Sc Computer Science and M.Anbarasan III B Sc Physical Education were elected unanimously as Sports Secretary for Shift I and Shift II. Dr. M. Joseph Selvaraj was the Jury of Appeal. Mr.J.Robert Dhilipan and Dr.S.Ganesh functioned as the Chief Electoral Officers and the Asst. Electoral Officer respectively. Dr.S.Arul Prasad and Dr.A.Duraisingam were the Micro Observers. Dr. S. Rayappan, Dean for Students organized and monitored the event.
