Herren Date Department Chair ABSTRACT This thesis reviews relationships between economic growth and water pollution in South Korea using the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC). Both national perspective (pooled data) and regional perspective (each river) are used to reveal the EKC theory. Given that the small sample covers four rivers and the period of 1985-2009, Fixed-effects model with a robust standard error is chosen for removing econometric problems. Empirical results demonstrate that the EKC theory explains water quality change in South Korea, depending on the types of water pollutants and their generated regional characteristics. The Han River does not show inverted-U shapes for BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), but the Geum River (BOD), the Yeongsan River (BOD and COD), and the Nackdong River (COD) show inverted-U shapes. -

The key stronghold of traffic and logistics system in the Korean peninsula will also consist with six nodes and a linked structure of “Incheon, West Economic Zone” – “Pyongyang, Nampo zone” – “Wonsan, Hamhung zone” – “East (Mt. Kumgang) Economic zone” – “Busan, Ulsan zone” – “Saemangeum, Mokpo zone” will be formed centering on Seoul. The existing state of traffic infrastructure along the corridors of ROK is shown in figure 1.1. The Jejin station, Sokcho and Pusan port, Yangsan ICD is located in Korean Peninsula East Corridor 6. The operation scenarios tested were dam control (Scenario 1), dam control and weir gate control (Scenario 2), dam control and sequential release of the weirs with a one-month interval between each weir (Scenario 3), dam control and weir gate full open (Scenario 4), dam control and weir gate sequential full open (Scenario 5), weir gate control (Scenario 6), weir gate full open (Scenario 7), and weir gate sequential full open (Scenario 8). Before evaluation, the SWAT was calibrated and validated using 13 years (2005–2017) of daily multi-purpose dam inflow data from five locations ((Andong Dam (ADD), Imha Dam (IHD), Hapcheon Dam (HCD), Namkang Dam (NKD), and Milyang Dam (MYD))multi-function weir inflow data from seven locations (Sangju Weir (SJW), Gumi Weir (GMW), Chilgok Weir (CGW), Gangjeong-Goryeong Weir (GJW), Dalseong Weir (DSW), Hapcheon-Changnyeong Weir (HCW), and Changnyeong-Haman Weir (HAW)), and monthly water quality monitoring data from six locations (Andong-4 (AD-4), Sangju (SJ-2), Waegwan (WG), Hapcheon (HC), Namkang-4 (NK-4), and Mulgeum (MG). -

Hyundai Rotem (064350 KS) Next stop: Earnings recovery Company snapshot Machinery Hyundai Rotem is Korea’s largest railway rolling stock manufacturer. It was founded in 1999 as Korea Rolling Stock Corporation, when the rolling stock divisions of Hyundai Precision & Company Report Industries, Daewoo Heavy Industries, and Hanjin Heavy I&C merged as part of a government- October 28, 2014 led restructuring. The following year, the company purchased the battle-tank and machinery/plant divisions of Hyundai Precision & Industries, becoming an affiliate of the Hyundai Group. The company changed its name to Hyundai Rotem in 2007 and went public (Initiate) Buy in October 2013. Hyundai Rotem has three main business areas: rolling stock, defense, and plants.
