COUPLED CFD AND HEAT TRANSFER ANALYSIS FOR A SMALL SCALE GAS TURBINE COMBUSTOR

ABSTRACT Gas turbine combustor design process has significant number of complex design phenomena, one of the most complicated parameters of which is the heat transfer process of combustor liners. Heat transfer studies are performed in preliminary design phase by the help of one-dimensional tools; however, in the detail design phase, use of 3D CFD analysis is required. In that sense, conjugate heat transfer stands out as a powerful but computationally expensive analysis method. On the other hand, coupled analysis of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) can provide a quick alternative solution. Coupled analysis offers faster results with lower mesh size, which provides an advantage iterative design process.

In this study, a series of coupled CFD and heat transfer analyses were conducted for a small scale gas turbine combustor, and the results were presented and compared ALTUG PISKIN with relevant rig test thermal paint results. NUMERICAL ANALYSES Flow chart of the overall analysis process is provided in Figure 1. As it can be understood from this chart, CFD model starts with the definition of a baseline wall temperature for liners. Combustion model is analyzed based on these wall temperatures, and the wall edge gas temperature results are transfered to thermal model. Wall temperatures obtained through analysis of the thermal model is re-converted into CFD model, and this sequential process continues until a convergence is obtained, after which the solution is completed.

AERODYNAMIC OPTIMIZATION OF A TRANSONIC FAN BLADE

ABSTRACT This study aims to obtain the optimum aerodynamic axial symmetric design of a transonic aero-engine fan blade and flow path. Angle distribution and fan bypass field flow path geometry is optimized using genetic algorithm principle, which is an optimization method inspired by evolutionary processes. A 2D axial-symmetric design tool and optimization software, developed by TEI employees, are used for the study.

INTRODUCTION Quasi three-dimensional through-flow modeling (Figure 1) is one of the most critical steps in of turbomachinery design. Using detailed 3D analysis models, the design is only possible by trial-and-error, and takes much longer time, whilst 2D axial-symmetric methods enable direct and fast designs.

An axisymmetric solver includes two components. The first component consists of a solver which works in axis-symmetric swirl mode (in the present study, the streamline-curvature method). I C TRAGIC YEAR IN SPORTS WORLD L : A B 2016 BY BURAK

2016 marked a highly significant year in the world of sports. It is sort of tradition to take a look at what happened throughout the year when you are about to leave it behind. So I didn't break the tradition and summarized some of the major sporting highlights of the year.

ny event that leaves a mark in the history will Two legends say farewell to the Olympics find its way to the pages of history, regardless of As might be expected, I should mention Michael Phelps the topic. Although the answer to the question and Usain Bolt first. Rio Olympics 2016 witnessed these A which developments left a mark to what extent two legendary figures that compete in the two prominent in 2016 varies depending on the person and his or her disciplines in Olympic Games, namely swimming and own interests, I have to admit that 2016 marked a highly athletics, say goodbye to the Olympic stage. Before Rio important year in the world of "sports", which is the theme 2016, he was already the best Olympian in the history of this article. First of all, what makes 2016 different with his 22 medals and by winning 5 golds and 1 silver was that it was a "year of Olympics". As usual in recent in Rio, he clinched that he is the best star ever in this years, Rio 2016 Olympics started with concerns and organization. Bolt, with his funny and cheerful attitudes controversies: The organization's negative effects on the being the exact opposite of Phelps's mechanical and economy of the city hosting the Olympics, concerns about victory-oriented style, won the gold medal in 100 m, 200 whether the facilities to be built for the organization will be m and 4x100 m relay and became the first athlete to of use later on, the workers who work overtime for many obtain the "triple triple" which can unlikely be repeated hours to complete the construction of these facilities any time soon. Phelps and Bolt created such a big wave on time without getting their due and protests across of excitement that it wouldn't be exaggeration to say that the country... However, the moment when the Olympics their absence will be felt more deeply than the excitement start, all these concerns and complaints fade into the for the new performances in Tokyo 2020. It was a great background for the sports fans because the Olympics chance to be able to witness these two athletes make have left us a legacy of proverbial performances that will history and we will never forget the joy of being among be remembered even a hundred years later, so we focused those lucky few. to make the best of it one more time. Favorites of the year Besides these two legends, the American artistic gymnast Simone Biles is one of the top figures of the year who is definitely worth mentioning. Although she is only 19, this young American has managed to make a name for herself after winning five medals with her performance this summer. She is even compared to Nadia Comaneci, the Rumen gymnast who has become a legend after her outstanding performance in Montreal 1976, and that alone is I think enough to explain what a great impact Biles has created. Her fellow citizen and coeval Katie Ledecky and Hungarian swimmer Katinka Hosszu also left their mark on this year's Olympics with their performances in the pool. Moreover, South Africa's Wayde van Niekerk, who broke Michael Johnson's 17-year-old 400m world record that was considered unlikely to be broken, and the British distance runner Mo Farah who achieved a second consecutive 5000 m/10,000 m double were among other figures in the spotlight.

The excitement of tennis in Turkey and worldwide Doping, the biggest shame in the world of sports, showed itself in tennis courts this year. Maria Sharapova, the world's highest paid female tennis player admitted that she had been using the drug called Meldonium for many years, which became prohibited on January 1, 2016 and she made a huge mistake as she didn't check the link in the e-mail sent by World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) about it. As a result, she was suspended from playing tennis for two years, which would later be reduced to 15 months, leaving behind the controversies that although this substance is used by many other athletes, the Russian tennis player was treated more harshly than others and the sanction imposed on her is not equitable. Apart from doping, the tennis world witnesses that Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic, who had dominated the women and men tennis for a long time lost their world League title. Golden States finished the regular season with a record of 73–9, breaking the legendary Chicago Bulls' NBA record with the legend Micheal Jordan, and just as they were in the discussion of being called the best team ever in NBA history, they lost the final series in seven games and became the first team in NBA history to lost the series from 3–1 lead in the Finals. Back in 2014, when he won his first title as the world champion, Leicester City had also ranked first at the Championship League, qualifying for the Premier League. Being the subject of these two happy coincidences, Selby is now one of the six players who won all of snooker's Triple Crown events at least twice.

Farewells to legends After these performance reviews, let's end this article by commemorating the athletes who have retired from sports and life. Especially for NBA, 2016 was a milestone as three big legends Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett retired. Aircraft engines are prone to occurrence of fire due to their design characteristics. This is because their design involves combustion by nature. The point is to make sure that this combustion occurs as much as needed and does not exceed the dedicated parts.

Considering the points mentioned above, it is clear that may lead to a "major effect" or worse. A design focused aircraft engines are highly prone to occurrence of fire; on compliance with the regulations rather than safety is as such, it is possible to avoid this risk of fire. British Airtours Flight 28M! Be safe... Controlled and uncontrolled fires International aviation authorities address fire impact in two different categories: Controlled fires and uncontrolled fires. So, what is a controlled fire? If it is possible to detect the presence of fire and a design solution has been developed to stop the fire in case of occurrence of any fire, then it means that the fire is controlled. Fires can be taken under control by using methods such as cutting fuel supply in occurrence of a fire in the aircraft engine, selecting appropriate materials to prevent spread of fire and using manual or autonomous fire extinguishing systems. In that case, occurrence of fire is considered as a major engine effect. If the system does not involve a fire extinguishing or spread prevention system in case of fire, it is identified as hazardous engine effect. This is because occurrence of a fire after a potential damage with a minor impact can turn this minor engine effect into a catastrophic impact.

A waterfront simulation After a while, I came across the concept of palidarium. Palidarium gives the impression of a lakeshore, it is like bringing the nature into your home. Unlike aquarium which is fully about aquatic living beings, aquatic plants and aquatic environment, paludarium is a waterfront simulation. It focuses on waterfront rather than the water itself. That is, water feature rocks, tree roots, marsh plants and ivies are used without changing their natural look. Semiaquatic animals such as salamanders, frogs and turtles are preferred for palidarium. I don't know about you but when I see a lake view or a natural pool, I look at the waterfront rather than its depth, size or color. For me, what makes the scene beautiful is the natural view of where water meets the land.

LET'S TAKE A HISTORY, CULTURE AND NATURE TOUR IN THE BALKANS

60 TEI POST

We wished to both swim and get to know different cultures in the summer vacation of 2016. But although summer set in, we didn't have a vacation plan yet. Just as we were thinking that we could only make it to our hometown due to high prices, we hit on a good idea to travel to the Balkans. The Balkan countries promise an awe-inspiring nature, a deeply-rooted history and a cultural experience while offering quite affordable prices when compared to the other European countries. We started to read travel blogs without a moment's delay, and we mapped out a 10-day vacation route covering both nature and history.

Although the best way to travel the Balkan countries is renting a car, we refrained from driving on the quite unknown mountainous roads; so we mapped out a route that we could travel by public transportation means and added , and in , Dubrovnik in Croatia, as well as and in Bosnia-Herzegovina to our vacation route. While Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina do not require visa for Turkey, Croatia requires visa as it became a member to the EU in 2014. After purchasing our round-trip tickets to Podgorica and performing hotel reservations via Internet, we started to count the days for the vacation.

Podgorica And the big day arrived! We took off from Ataturk Airport, and landed in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro,

An important fact the study revealed is that personality and job fit does not guarantee longevity. For instance, length of life is relatively short among those who work in field that requires persuasive and entrepreneurial skills like sales or insurance. Those with higher social skills and work suitable jobs, on the other hand, lived longer6.

Another common misconception is that those who work had do not enjoy live much and they miss the beautiful aspects of live. Similarly, holders of jobs that require a high level of conscientiousness like accounting are considered to have boring lives. However, Terman study did not confirm that, either. People who have a job that they consider important live become more productive and successful and live a healthier and longer life compared to those who take the easy road in their lives and careers and stay away from pressure7.

It is known that people with a higher education level live longer compared to those with a lower education status. rest, medication and physical treatment can be sufficient for most of the patients. If there is severe pain at the onset of the condition, we recommend bed rest and medication. Then the patient undergoes physical treatment after the pain is reduced. The surgical operation is determined based on the loss of strength and radiologic imaging in combination.

Is surgery a definite solution? For cervical herniated disc condition, surgical treatment is used to remove the pressure on the spinal cord and nerve tissue, in other word, to remove the hernia. As a result, patients' complaints such as pain, numbness and weakness in the arms are eliminated. Modern surgical operations can be a definite solution for cervical herniated discs. Moreover, the new methods can prevent development of any potential complications. bone tissues with each other. Disc tissue loses its water content and hardens with age or as a result of traumas, which restricts its movement. The condition occurs as a result of degradation of the tissue of discs, which carry the burden of the body. The softer inner part protrudes from the small ruptures on the harder outer parts of the discs. Sometimes small bone protrusions develop as the vertebral structure is damaged. The condition that occurs when the inner soft structure or bones apply pressure on the tissues around is called "cervical disc herniation".

What are the most important signs of cervical herniated disc? The most important sign is neck pain. Initially, neck and back pain is at the forefront but as the condition gets worse, pain and numbness in arms and fingers can be seen as a result of the pressure applied by the herniated disc on the nerves. After a file, weakness starts due to the pressure applied on the nerves. In late stages of untreated conditions, complaints such as weakness in legs and urinary incontinence are reported because of the pressure on the spinal cord. The final diagnosis is made after a physical examination and MR examination.

Is surgical operation a must in treatment of this condition? Contrary to common belief, surgical operation is seen as the last resort for cervical herniated disc treatment. Bed Assistant Professor Bulent Onal
