They formed the group Stillwater in 1973 and soon after the band got a recording contract with Capricorn Records in Macon, releasing two albums; Stillwater in 1977 and I Reserve the Right in 1978. “Mind Bender,” reached No. 46 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February of 1978. Members of the band continue to perform and showcase their musical talents throughout the Middle Georgia area. Wet Willie Wet Willie is an American band from Mobile, Alabama. They are best known for their hit “Keep On Smilin’,” but their list includes a number of charted songs in the 1970s utilizing their soulful brand of Southern rock. Other hits include “Country Side of Life,” Everything That ‘Cha Do,” and “Leona.” Core members are Jimmy Hall, vocals, harmonica, saxophone; Jimmy’s brother Jack Hall on bass; Jimmy’s sister Donna Hall singing background vocals; T.K. Lively as drummer. In 2012 Wet Willie released a new live CD "Miles of Smiles" on the Hittin' the Note Records label. Jack Pearson Band Guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer, musician… this only begins to describe Jack Pearson. He is best known as an A-list blues/rock lead and slide guitarist, but Jack is also a soulful, creative songwriter and artist in his own right. He was a member of The Allman Brothers Band and has worked with music legends from the world of jazz, rock, blues and country including The Allman Brothers Band, Gregg Allman, Vince Gill, Jimmy Buffet, Mac McAnally, Amy Grant, Groove Holme, Faith Hill, Ronnie Milsap, Jimmy Hall, Lee Ann Womack, Martina McBride, Trace Adkins, Faith Hill, and the list goes on. The Eli Carlan Band Eli Carlan was born in Athens, Georgia. He began his musical journey at the age of fifteen performing in bands across the southeast. In February of 2014, he signed with Tate Music Group. He released his debut album R&B on August 12th, 2014. His band mates include Robin Hines, Bass/Guitar/Vocals and Ricky Baker, Drums.     Introduction What Is Southern Rock? It seems essential to define the term “southern rock” before one can write about it. This is necessary in order to plan what goes into the text and what gets left out. So what exactly is southern rock? Trying to define it is tantamount to going down the proverbial rab- bit hole. It’s a slippery, nebulous term that can mean almost anything. On its face it appears to imply rock music from the 1970s that came from the South, but that could include anything from Wet Willie to Marshall Tucker to Lynyrd Skynyrd, acts that have little in common stylistically or sound-wise. Author Scott B. Bomar states that the term “southern rock” was first used in the early 1970s by Mo Slotin, a writer for the Atlanta un- derground paper Great Speckled Bird in a review of an Allman Brothers Band concert.1 But the phrase didn’t come into broad usage until Al Kooper incorporated the concept into the name of his Atlanta-based record label, Sounds of the South, before he signed Lynyrd Skynyrd. Kooper was one of the first—along with Phil Walden of Capricorn Re- cords, founded in 1969—to realize that southern talent was something that might be codified and commodified. It happened that Skynyrd fit nicely into Kooper’s concept. Some people argue that southern rock is an amalgam of rock, blues, and country, dominated by electric guitars. However, applying this · 1 · definition, the early “rockabilly” acts out of Memphis—Elvis, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis—along with Chuck Berry, Buddy Knox, and Buddy Holly might also qualify as southern rockers.

    ! THE THE CAPRICORN CENTER! A PROPOSAL FOR THE USE OF THE FORMER ! CAPRICORN SOUND STUDIOS BUILDING! ! Jared Wright and Chris Nylund, 2014 PROPOSAL OVERVIEW! ! In 2010, the Georgia National Trust named the former Capricorn Sound Studios on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard one of ten Georgia places in peril due to the rich musical history the building represents. Subsequently, The Peyton Anderson Foundation and NewTown Macon partnered to purchase and stabilize the building with the goal of restoring the building and creating a recording studio, music-themed restaurant, museum, gift shop, outdoor amphitheater and loft living spaces.! ! This proposal represents an expansion of those initial ideas and focuses on the installation of an interpretive area and archive within the central portion of the building that includes the studio’s live room, control room and former offices. The plan outlines the development of these areas as the first phase of the project, which will allow the Capricorn Sound Studios building to generate revenue and interest within the community while the other phases of the project continue to be developed and completed as it transforms into a multi-purpose facility known as the Capricorn Center! ! Other potential partners for this project include, but are certainly not limited to, the Otis Redding Foundation and family, the Tubman African American Museum, and the Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House. These organizations and institutions have ties to the Capricorn Sound Studios building and are potential partners in its revitalization. An effort has also been made to involve the city’s institutions of higher education in order to provide a sturdy backbone for the proposal’s academic and interpretive elements.

    August 18th, 1996 MACON, Ga. Any ramblin' man who spends a Saturday night at the Allman Brothers Bed & Breakfast certainly doesn't expect to wake up to the sound of church bells on a Sunday morning. The fierce blues-tinged riffs of the Allman Brothers speaks to renegades from every walk of life; brakemen to bikers, suits to boots. The legacy was secured in 1995 when they were inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. During the Summer Olympics, I was the first "official" (paying $50 a night) guest at what fans call the Big House, the band's home in 1970-73. Macon, pop. 125,000, is 90 miles south of Atlanta, a straight shot down I-75. The 96-year-old, three-story Grand Tudor house is owned and operated by Kirk and Kirsten West. It is across the street from the First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church of Macon. On a daily basis - and twice on Sunday - the church tower sings out. Kirk is a former Chicago photographer who is now theAllman Brothers road manager. He also was associate producer of "Dreams," the AllmanBrothers box set released in 1989. Kirsten is a former Chicago insurance executive. In 1991 they met through a Chicago Reader personal ad. By 1993 they were married and living in the warm confines of the Big House. Friends and fans such as country star Leroy Parnell and blues guitarist Tinsely Ellis have been guests, but it wasn't until this summer that the Wests realized a three-year-old dream of an Allman Brothers Bed & Breakfast.

    Heartsfield has toured the United States in each decade since the 1970s, having performed 5,000 shows for millions fans at fairs and festivals, stadiums, colleges and universities, clubs and bars, private parties, and in the streets. Having released 12 albums, sold millions of records, and helped pioneer the Americana-based Southern Rock/Country Rock music for which they are known, their shows are full of fun, up-tempo, foot- stompin’ music that gets the crowd involved, singin’ and dancin’ away. The band delivers on its promise of hot pickin’, strong vocals, rich harmonies, driving rhythms, great songs, triple lead guitar work, and smiles from the stage, which have allowed them to last over four decades and still continue to please audiences with their growing catalogue of hits. Having been signed by Mercury Records and later, Columbia Records, Heartsfield has produced numerous radio favorites and had Billboard charted records. Among them are “Music Eyes,” ”Shine On,” “Here I Am,” “The Only Time I’m Sober Is When You’re Gone,” “I’m Comin’ Home,” and “Racin’ the Sun.” In the book, Counting Down Southern Rock: The 100 Best Songs, our song “Another Man Down” is listed and our self-titled album, Heartsfield, is listed as number 32 on the “100 + 1 Best Southern Rock Albums” list. Our shows focus on our many hits and fan favorites, as well as a few covers of well known songs by groups with which we toured over the years such as The Doobie Brothers, Stephen Stills, Creedence Clearwater, and other well known acts.
