SportZone by Thabisile Mgwali Chiefs qualify for Champions League Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs have pulled off the unexpected in Guinea on Saturday, 11 April and qualifi ed for the CAF Champions League quarter-fi nals after securing a 2–2 draw away to Horoya. Goalkeeper and were recalled in the places of the suspended and Samir Nurkovic while Njabulo Blom started ahead of Willard Katsande. Kaizer Chiefs needed a draw or a win from the away encounter to see them advance to the quarter-fi nals. Chiefs’ defence could not maintain a watertight defence and on the stroke of halftime, Yakhouba Gnagna Barry nodded home a cross from teammate Sebe Baff our to make the score 1–0 to Horoya. The South African side was lucky in the 65th minute after substitute Dumisani Zuma won a penalty and calmly converted to level matters. Chiefs keeper, Khune kept his side in the game and pulled off some saves in the second stanza as the Glamour Boys held on to a 2–2 draw that saw them qualify as runners-up in the group. It was a proud moment for ProTouch Continental Cycling when under 19 junior, Justin Chesterton won the Cat 2 100km race at the Western Province Cycling Association Paarl De Ville. The team will be returning to the heart of Africa for their fourth Tour du Rwanda from 2 to 9 May 2021. Eight stages over 914km await their fi ve riders Kent Main, Gustav Basson, Calvin Beneke and their U/23 rising stars Callum Ormiston and Andries Nigrini. Play for a good cause Witpoortjie — Ebenezer House is a Witpoortjie-based non-profi t organisation that cares for and supports adults suff ering from severe mental illnesses. The psychiatric home currently houses 26 permanent residents who either cannot aff ord private healthcare or their families were unable to cope with the illnesses. At Ebenezer House, the residents are in a supportive and nurturing environment where carers, psychiatrists and social workers help them get through each day with exercise regimes, skills development, creative and practical workshops, medical treatments, and so much more. As an NPO, donations from the public are vital to their survival. "We are dependent on donations and assistance from the public and corporate sectors to keep the home open and functional," said Lee-ann Scholtz, the home's manager. To raise funds to keep the psychiatric home functioning, Ebenezer has hosted a charity cycle ride for the past eight years, but they have been unable to do so over the past two years due to Covid-19, among other reasons. With the regulations easing, Ebenezer wanted to re-start their fundraising with something new. So instead of hosting a cycle ride, they will be hosting a charity golf day at the Krugersdorp Golf Club on Thursday, 27 May. A four-ball costs R3 200 per team (R800 per person) and the shotgun start is at 12 midday. The costs will include the green fees, golf cart, halfway house, dinner and prize- giving. Bookings can be made by contacting Charmaine on 082 434 7235 or Kerry on 071 414 0501. Charmaine and Kerry can also be contacted if you are willing to sponsor a hole or a prize for the day.
