Ostbye’s Hunting Tours took advantage of what Russian wildlife could offer, and evolved into a hunting trip organizer in Russia and several former Soviet republics in Asia such as Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. We have also opportunity to organize hunt in Iran now. Throughout more than 20 years, we have developed and strengthened our position as a reliable outfitter of different hunting tours for Snow Sheep, Marco Polo, Brown Bear, Siberian Ibex, Stag,Tur, just to mention a few. We can point to many satisfied hunters. Many other wildlife species can be hunted with us on request. Ansten Ostbye 2 SOME CHOICES OF OUR TOURS Kamchatka Brown Bear Marco Polo Tajikistan Dagestan Tur Siberian Ibex Kamchatka Snow Sheep Hume Argali Kyrgyzstan 3 KAMCHATKA SNOW SHEEP IN RUSSIA KAMCHATKA SNOW SHEEP (Ovis nivicola nivicola) Kamchatka Snow Sheep with their massive horns are the largest species of snow sheep in Russia. It lives in one of the largest wilderness areas in central part of Kamchatka Peninsula. The hunt takes place during period of August / September. Hunters live in a tent camp. Each hunter has his own guide and moves in the terrain on foot, and should expect to walk a lot. Average trophy size is 34-37”. Trip duration is 10 days, where the hunt is 8 days. Since reopening of the flights from Anchorage to Petropavlovsk Kamchatskiy, this hunt became closer to American hunters, otherwise flights via Moscow would be an option. 4 5 KORYAK SNOW SHEEP IN RUSSIA KORYAK SNOW SHEEP (Ovis nivicola koriakorum) Koryak Snow Sheep population is to be found north of the Kamchatka Peninsula on the border to Chukotka. This species, which lives in the area 60 ° North, is classified as Koryak Snow Sheep. The hunt takes place during the period August / September. Each hunter has his own guide and moves in the terrain by foot and should expect to walk a lot. Hunters live in a tent camp. Average size of trophy is 32-35”. Trip duration is 10 days, where the hunt is 8 days. Since reopening of the flights from Anchorage to Petropavlovsk Kamchatskiy, this hunt became closer to American hunters, otherwise flights via Moscow would be an option. 6 7 KORYAK SNOW SHEEP IN RUSSIA 8 9 CHUKOTKA SNOW SHEEP IN RUSSIA CHUKOTKA SNOW SHEEP The Chukotka Snow Sheep species lives and is hunted along the southern border of Russia’s Chukotka Province. It is very open terrain with only a little forest in the valley floors. The climate is harsh with temperatures reaching down to -20 to -40F for 3 to 4 month per year. The hard winters keep population density low for this subspecies. The typical hunt for this sheep species involves plenty of spotting and climbing in rough terrain in elevations up to 5,500 to 6,000 feet. The hunt is done by hunting/stalking on foot from main tent camp and also spike camps which require back pack hunting gear. Each hunter has his own guide. The hunting period is August through September. The tour will take 12 days, of which the hunt is 7 to 8 days. Permits are very limited so advance bookings are a necessity. 10 11 CHUKOTKA SNOW SHEEP IN RUSSIA 12 13 YAKUTIAN SNOW SHEEP IN RUSSIA YAKUTIAN SNOW SHEEP (Ovis nivicola lydekkeri) Yakutian Snow Sheep population is to be found in Yakutia area in Siberia from the Lena River eastward North of 62°N, including the Verkhoyansk, Chersk, Mom, Kolyma and other ranges. All the sheep located in the Yakutia Region are considered to be Yakutian Snow Sheep. Hunting season is in August and September. Each hunter has his own guide at his disposal, hunting by stalking on foot. Accommodation is in tents in camp. There is a kitchen tent with cook. Each camp has 2-4 hunters. Some days of the hunt would be in fly camps with small tents. Hunting period would be 10 days, and hunting time 8 days. Route for the tour: Moscow –Yakutsk with regular flights. Further transportation with helicopter approx. 2 hours from Yakutsk to hunting camp. 14 15 KAMCHATKA BROWN BEAR IN RUSSIA KAMCHATKA BROWN BEAR (Ursus arctos beringianus) The ultimate experience for any hunter must be a bear hunt in the Kamchatka area. We have more than 20 years’ experience with successful tours. The Kamchatka Brown Bear is the largest bear in the eastern hemisphere with a fantastic coat and normal trophy is 8 ft. We fly first to Petropavlovsk on the Kamchatka Peninsula. Then we are transported to a camp area by helicopter. There will be 4 - 6 hunters at each camp and every hunter will have his very own guide. We will be lodged in cabins and snow scooters will be used to transport the hunters into the terrain. The hunt will take place by positioning or localization of the bear from ridges and the advancing, cutting off the bear’s escape route. The tour will take 10 days of which 7-8 days are primarily for hunting scheduled for April/May. 16 17 KAMCHATKA BROWN BEAR IN RUSSIA 18 19 SIBERIAN IBEX IN RUSSIA SIBERIAN IBEX (Capra sibirica sibirica) Your hunting experience in Siberia, will be arranged in the Western Sajan Mountains, southeast of Abakan. Here begins Jenisej River’s majestic journey to the north. It is hard to imagine this natural wonder of the area. Only by travelling through these breathtaking mountain areas can you experience it. This area has good trophies of Ibex. After we arrive in Abakan, we will travel about 100 miles, first by car and then later change to boat (about 4-5 hours) until we arrive at the camp site. Every hunter will have his very own guide and stay in wooden cabins. The tour will take 11 days of which 8 days are primarily for hunting. The actual period for fall hunting is September/October. 20 21 MARCO POLO ARGALI IN TAJIKISTAN MARCO POLO ARGALI (Ovis ammon poli) The hunt for Marco Polo is considered the most exclusive hunting experience today. The hunt will be in Tajikistan. Hunters are provided air transportation to Bishkek and Osh. Then will be taken by car from Osh to Pamir Mountain, often called the roof of the world. Hunting is arranged in mountainous territory and there are no special physical requirements over the ordinary. Base camp is located 12,000 feet and there we will stay in cabins. Hunting terrain can stretch up to 15,000 feet. Each hunter will have his own guide. Hunting is done by stalking. The tour will take 10 days, of which the hunt is 7-8 days. Hunting tours can be scheduled within the period of September to March. 22 23 MARCO POLO ARGALI IN TAJIKISTAN 24 25 HUME ARGALI IN KYRGYZSTAN HUME ARGALI (Ovis ammon humei) The search for Hume Argali is considered one of the most famous hunting adventures. Our hunting takes place in Kyrgyzstan, where the hunters arrive in Bishkek, the capital. From here transport by car to the hunting area in the Tian-Shan Mountain Range, bordering the Chinese border. Hunt takes place in mountainous terrain (not alpine mountains) and there are no special demands on the hunter beyond normal physical condition. Base camp is about 10,000 feet where we stay overnight in cabins. From there we will hunt up to approx. 12,000 feet, and each hunter has their own guide. There are horses used to move in terrain. This hunt takes place between September and March. Tour takes 10 days, where the hunt is 8 days. 26 MID-ASIAN IBEX IN TAJIKISTAN AND KYRGYZSTAN MID-ASIAN IBEX (Capra sibirica alaiana) Tajikistan is mostly known for its fantastic mountains, Pamir is often called the roof of the world. It is hard to imagine this strange beauty. Only by travelling through these breathtaking mountain areas can you experience it. There are no special requirements for the hunter’s physical form over the ordinary even though hunter must figure on climbing in mountainous terrain. This area has unusually good trophies of Ibex. Base camp is located 12,000 ft and there we stay at night in cabins. To get the best trophy we may climb up to 15,000 feet. Each hunter has his own guide at his disposal and we move in hunting area by feet and by horseback. The tour will take 10 days, of which the hunt is 8 days. Hunting trips can be scheduled within the period of September to March. 27 MID-ASIAN IBEX IN TAJIKISTAN AND KYRGYZSTAN 28 29 CAUCASIAN CHAMOIS IN RUSSIA CAUCASIAN CHAMOIS (Rupicapra rupicapra caucasica) Caucasian chamois is possible to be hunted in Caucasus mountain range in Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan at elevations from 8,000 to 10,000 ft. Our hunting tours take place in Russia, Caucasuss in Karachay – Cherkessia area. It is also possible to do Kuban hunt in this area. Caucasian chamois is similar to the Alpine chamois but somewhat smaller, with relatively short, stout horns.
