She also explains her own experiences serving in student government during her school years. Missy talks about being a young wife and mother while working as the press secretary for Bill Orton. She further explains how she began her own public relations company, Intrepid. Missy details how she helped Tom Smart with publicity during the search for his daughter Elizabeth Smart who was abducted from her home in 2002. She talks about her position as chief of staff to Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes and her involvement in developing the SafeUT app, which is a crisis intervention resource for teens. She concludes the interview by talking about the joy she finds in volunteering her time to help refugees in Utah. SUNDANCE INSTITUTE ANNOUNCES FILM FORWARD: ADVANCING CULTURAL DIALOGUE TO BE PRESENTED IN MOROCCO SEPTEMBER 27-30 Filmmakers Cherien Dabis (Amreeka ) and Emmy Award Winner Stanley Nelson ( Freedom Riders ) Featured Participants for Screenings and Workshops Co-Hosted by the U.S. Embassy in Rabat RABAT, MOROCCO (September 23, 2011) — Film Forward: Advancing Cultural Dialogue , a Sundance Institute initiative in partnership with U.S. federal cultural agencies, will be presented in the Kingdom of Morocco September 27-30, in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Rabat. A selection of films and film- related events will be presented at locations in Tangier, Tetouan, Salé and Casablanca. Filmmakers Cherien Dabis (Amreeka ) and Stanley Nelson ( Freedom Riders ), as well as Caroline Libresco, Senior Programmer at Sundance Institute, will travel to Morocco to represent the initiative and engage with audiences. “In just the first year of this program, we’ve taken films and filmmakers around the world and built a dialogue with audiences in Tunisia, Turkey, China, Kenya, Puerto Rico and several other locations in the U.S.,” said Keri Putnam, Sundance Institute Executive Director. “Though each location is different, audiences are finding common themes and sharing their own experiences. It speaks to the goal of the program – showing the power of film to transcend culture barriers.” Screenings, including some for students and underserved youth, will take place at locations including the Cinematheque de Tanger, the Tangier American Legation Museum in conjunction with the American Language Center, University Abdelmalek Essadi, Abi bakr Errazi Junior High School, Cinema Hollywood, and School of Metiers du Cinema. Private workshops will be held at University Abdelmalek Essadi in Tetouan by Stanley Nelson who will explore the filmmaking challenges he faced with creating a historical film and how to effectively use rich archival footage to create a singular cinematic experience. -

Park City, UT — The nonprofit Sundance Institute announced today the showcase of new independent feature films selected across all categories for the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. The Festival hosts screenings in Park City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort, from January 23–February 2, 2020. The Sundance Film Festival is Sundance Institute’s flagship public program, widely regarded as the largest American independent film festival and attended by more than 120,000 people and 1,300 accredited press, and powered by more than 2,000 volunteers last year. Sundance Institute also presents public programs throughout the year and around the world, including Festivals in Hong Kong and London, an international short film tour, an indigenous shorts program, a free summer screening series in Utah, and more. The program is designed to serve the field of American theater by providing resources and development opportunities to generative theater artists. The program includes residency Labs in Wyoming and Massachusetts, which offer a focused and rigorous creative process Sundance Children's and mentorship for artists as they develop new work for the stage. In UT 1 Theater Park City 2018 $65,000 Theatre Inc. addition, participants receive year-round creative and tactical support including dramaturgical input, work-in-progress readings, workshops, and other opportunities. The program also includes Creative Tensions, participatory theater workshops held in cities across the United States that are designed to engage participants in collective conversation through physical movement. To support the Creative Distribution Initiative (CDI), a distribution service and resource for independent filmmakers. The online expression of the Sundance Film Festival will provide global access for storytellers and audiences alike to come together, experience artists new work, connect with one another, and participate in conversation. All films in the program will be available online in the United States, with certain films opting for global availability. The full talks and events program, as well as the New Frontier section for XR and emerging media, will be available globally. The Festival runs January 28 through February 3, 2021. “Even under these impossible circumstances artists are still finding paths to make bold and vital work in whatever ways they can,” says Tabitha Jackson, in her first year as Festival Director. “So Sundance, as a festival of discovery, will bring that work to its first audiences in whatever ways we can. An Interview with Charles Metten Brigham Young University Department Chair, Theatre and Media Arts 1974-1979 My name is Charles Metten. I was born in Fort Bragg, California. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree at UCLA in Theatre Arts and Film, and my PhD in Speech and Drama at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. I did a full year’s work at the American Conservatory Theatre and then for two years special classes at the American Film Institute. I am proud to say I am, well, really the founder of the film program. I started it all. At least, I was the impetus behind getting the right people in the right places at the right time to begin the BYU Film Program. You can’t really understand the tremendous richness and the tremendous tradition and the tremendous history, and the tremendous struggle, and the tremendous low points and high points of the art of filmmaking without the love and acquaintance of the films of the silent period, and films of the 20s and the 30s and the 40s, and the directors and the actors, cinematographers, editors, etc. that went along with them. I think a young person who’s in film today who does not have that background is lacking tremendously. If you want to talk about the beginnings of the film program, I’ll tell you where I’m coming from. If you’re not born directly into the line, then make yourself adopted by close study of all of that richness. This program is founded upon a real sturdy, strong basis. -

Ogden, Utah 84401 . 801.399.8414 Summit-Eden @ Powder Mountain EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Earlier this year, the Summit Mountain Holding Group, LLC (SMHG) acquired “Powder Mountain”, and has proposed an exciting expansion vision for the resort which entails, among other things, building a world-class center for conferencing and thought-leadership that will bring the most prominent global thinkers in technology, education, innovation, and socially- focused ventures to this area. Their planning includes engagement and benefit for local farms, businesses, and individuals, as well as working with existing enterprise to create agri-tourism opportunities, farm-to-table supply chains and other projects which help protect the exceptional quality of life in our communities. Their community-first approach to development is a primary reason why Weber County is supportive of the project. We are confident the annual Summit Series conference, which now calls Powder Mountain home, will foster the creation of multiple start-ups, investment in local philanthropic initiatives and cultivate millions in new capital activity in Weber County. We anticipate Summit-Eden will produce sustainable jobs in hospitality, recreation, and other sectors due to second and third order effects of Summit undertakings. Summit Outside, the first annual series event held at Powder Mountain in July of this year was notably successful. The 4-day event was home to some 800 people from around the world, created 1,000 event related jobs, generated in excess of $90,000 for local non-profits and had an estimated economic impact on the local economy of $2M.
