Han ga ut albumene «Deadroses» og «Help» i 2015, og fulgte opp med «Digital Druglord» og «Cybersex» i 2017. «Digital Druglord» inneholdt låta «Do Re Mi», hvor både originalen, og remixen featuring Gucci Mane, ble store hits, og var den første av hans egne låter som havnet på Billboard Hot 100. Som om ikke det var nok, slapp han også et selvtitulert album med hiphop- duoen Mansionz i 2017. I tillegg til sine egne prosjekter har han jobbet med en rekke store artister, som Pharrell Williams, Nick Jonas, Childish Gambino, Linkin Park og ikke minst Justin Bieber, som han skrev superhiten «Boyfriend» for sammen med med sin Mansionz-kumpan Mike Posner.     Music Business Association to Honor Record-Breaking Hit ‘Despacito’ with Outstanding Achievement Award at Music Biz 2018 February 13, 2018 – The Music Business Association (Music Biz) will present its Outstanding Achievement Award to record-breaking hit “Despacito” — by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee along with Justin Bieber on its remix — at the Music Biz 2018 Awards Luncheon during its 60th annual conference on May 17 at the Omni Nashville Hotel. Released on January 13, 2017, “Despacito” — which is primarily sung in Spanish — quickly became a dominant Latin smash, debuting at #2 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart and reaching #1 a month later, where it has remained for 42 non-consecutive weeks, breaking the record set by Enrique Iglesias’ “Bailando” featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona. A remix featuring Justin Bieber was released the following April, jolting “Despacito” to #1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart, the first primarily Spanish song to do so since “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)” in 1996. The track held the top spot for 16 consecutive weeks, tying the record previously set by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day.” “Despacito” has since become the first-ever Latin single to be certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) — with over 10 million sales and track-equivalent streams — and currently reigns as the most-watched video in YouTube history, with over 4.7 billion views. It was also the first primarily Spanish song to top 1 billion streams on Spotify. The track was recognized with four Latin GRAMMY Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year, as well as two American Music Awards for Collaboration of the Year and Favorite Pop/Rock Song.

    Affective (Re)constructions of the Imaginary Caribbean and Caribbean Imaginary in Reggaeton Music Video: The Cases of Calypso and La Gozadera Ellen Rebecca Bishell Newcastle University Abstract: Since the release of Daddy Yankee’s Gasolina in 2004 and the subsequent entrance of reggaeton music onto the global stage, contemporary artists and music video directors have had to negotiate between the needs to address the changing tastes and demands of local, national, regional, and international audiences. Applying an affective, systemic functional lens to the analyses of Luis Fonsi’s Calypso (2018) and Gente de Zona’s La Gozadera (2015), this article investigates the various musical and visual strategies taken in these videos to meet the expectations of international consumers while simultaneously constructing an agentic image of Caribbeanness. Attending to the often-neglected coexistence of hypervisibility and limited and/or conditioned mobility for Caribbean peoples, places, and cultural products in an age of global capitalism, it argues that these videos’ channeling and mobilization of affect in the reproduction of hegemonic tropes associated with the region creates a space in which they can be reconfigured and revalorized through a strategic appeal to the senses.
