Short project summary

The aim of the project is to reduce the carbon emissions across the Barvas Estate area on the west side of the . Barvas Estate incorporates the 6 townships of Lower Barvas & Park, , , North Bragar, South Bragar, and North & New .

Through a joint partnership of Urras Sgire Oighreachd Bharabhais (USOB) and Tighean Innes Gall (TIG), home visits will be carried out in the area and will involve:

• Providing householders with the information and knowledge that will help them reduce their current carbon emissions and also look at helping to create a low carbon future.

• Encouraging householders to save energy and reduce carbon emissions through behavioural change.

• Advising and educating residents on how to save money on their fuel bills.

• Helping to reduce the high level of fuel poverty.

• Undertaking Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) in as many properties as possible.

• Engaging in carbon literacy conversation, providing the householder with an information leaflet about saving carbon within the home and daily life.

The project will visit 80 homes over the year. Each one of the homes visited will receive up to 14 LED light bulbs and help with installation measures throughout the property if required.

Due to the project now being only one year, to increase the reduction in carbon emissions the community workshops will also include educating the community on the use of slow cookers to reduce the energy consumption as well as lighting and other uses. Project management and progress Financial
