COACH SPOTLIGHT Drew Pearson Coach Pearson joined the MSU Baseball coaching staff for the start of the 2015 season as a graduate assistant coach. He played baseball in undergrad at the University of -Milwaukee where he was a catcher for the Panthers. The Panthers were Horizon League Champions in 2010 and again in 2013 as well as NCAA DI Regional Participants in 2010.

Pearson chose MSU for graduate school because of the excellent opportunity to continue his education and gain valuable coaching experience at a top notch program like MSU. The opportunity to learn from Coach Magers and staff is something he’s very grateful for. His favorite moment as a coach at MSU thus far is the 23-game win streak in 2015 and the Regional Tournament last year.

Coach Pearson, a Racine, Wis. native, received his undergraduate degree after double-majoring in Finance and Marketing. He’s currently pursuing his graduate degree in Sport Management and hopes to continue coaching collegiate baseball after graduation. Q&A with Drew 1. What kind of music do you listen to? Country music is my go-to but I don’t mind mixing in some rap/pop to stay in tune with the players. 2. When you were in undergrad did you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions? Nothing too crazy. I once got a couple hits in a game while chewing bubble gum, stayed with that until it stopped working (which was the following day). 3. What’s your coaching philosophy? Play hard, always give maximum effort, do the little things right, have fun and the rest will take care of itself. 4. Best food item bought with meal money on a trip? I love gas station hot dogs. Anywhere and anytime, i’ll buy a hot dog. 5. Favorite restaurant in Mankato? Nothing beats a hot roast beef sandwich from Jonny B’s! 6. Favorite movie played on a baseball road trip? Little Big League - what Billy Heywood did for the Minnesota Twins was nothing short of remarkable. He took over the team in a time of need and the players rallied around him as the skipper. 7. Something people don’t typically know about you? I was a decent bowler in my younger years. I carried a 204 average as a sophomore in high school. 8. Favorite pastime when not playing baseball? You can find me near a baseball field or golf course. 9. What are your plans for the summer? I will be the assistant coach for the Eau Claire Express in the .
