Each year a number of people express their desire to become members of the Catholic Church. Or perhaps they are individuals already baptized and want to partake in receiving the Eucharist and complete their initiation through the sacrament of Confirmation.

They are engaged or married to a Catholic, their child is preparing for a sacrament, or they are just searching for the “right” church. These individuals are experiencing the call of God in their lives, but all that is needed is a little encouragement to take that first step.

They are your spouses, relatives, co-workers, neighbors and friends. They just need that word of encouragement, and you may be that person to offer it. Look around and see if that person is someone close to you. Pray for them and invite them to join us!

If you or anyone is interested in The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) or need more information, please give Deacon Dennis Robak a call at 847 864-0333. 6 Saint Mary Parish · Evanston, Illinois July 15, 2018

SVDP Ministry Stories of Hope A unique aspect to the work of the St. Vincent De Paul society is to visit in their homes the friends who request our help. Visiting people in their homes is meant to give them the opportunity to talk to us in a place that is familiar to them. The comfort and security of a home is something that we all can relate to. It is no surprise that some of the most difficult visits that we make are to people who are in Movie Nights danger of losing their home. July 31, August 28 7 p.m. in the Parish Center Our friend James had been renting a two bedroom apartment for many years and really loved it. July 31: Paul Apostle of Christ Providing for two children, one of them starting August 28: A Night of YouTube Presentations college, had not allowed him to put away any savings. A few months ago, James had to quit his job due to an illness. He found himself unable to pay his rent and facing an eviction notice. When we visited Trivia Nights at Firehouse Grill him, he told us about not being able to sleep at the Tuesday, August 14 thought of being thrown out in the street. The anguish 7:30 p.m. was affecting every moment of his life. James had 750 Chicago Avenue, Evanston just been hired in a new position and his wife also had a small income, so he did not qualify for any other form of help. St. Vincent De Paul was his last hope. Thanks also to the support from other St. Vincent De Paul chapters in Evanston, we were able to pay for two months rent and allow James to remain in his home.

Unfortunately, James’ case is not unique. A significant number of families in our town use a large fraction of their income for housing and they are at risk of losing their homes due to an illness or unforeseen expense. This is a problem that our society needs to bring to everybody’s attention and start addressing. We are very grateful that the Stewardship Because some people give once a month or generosity of our parishioners allows us to help friends electronically through Faith Direct, the weekly report may like James in the true spirit of Christ’s message. We not fully demonstrate the generosity of our Parishioners. hope for your continued support and we welcome those of you who would consider joining the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
