OPENING STATEMENT OF SENATOR ARLEN SPECTER Senator SPECTER. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. The hearing of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education will now proceed. We are taking up a very important subject today, and that is the issue of Federal funding for stem cell research. This is the fifth hearing which the subcommittee is holding on this very important subject, and we do it as a preliminary to action on the Senate floor on this subject, which will be taken up in the course
