Welcome to Round #8 of the World Series by Renault here in France, at the circuit Paul Ricard.” Postcard 00’31’’ Set on the picturesque Provencale plateau above the Cote d’Azure near the village of Le Castellet, the Circuit Paul Ricard, built in 1969, plays host once again to the exciting penultimate weekend of racing for the World Series By Renault 2013. I first came here in 1990 as a junior driver dreaming of being in Formula 1… Through Turn 1, Turn 2 using the kerbs – that’s the rattling noise, making full use of the racetrack. Famous little short kink that takes you out onto the Mistral Straight. Unlike the early days of this Grand Prix track, there is a chicane which breaks up the Mistral Straight which climbs up, it’s deceptively steep. Through Signes, which would be taken flat-out in a Formula 1 car, a 3.5 or a 2.0 but for me at my age it’s a hefty lift.” 02’38” (continues) “Down into the horseshoe corner – a never-ending corner, that then drops down into the apex. Beautiful turn, and absolute neck-wrencher so you’ve got to be physically tough on this circuit. Next turn is almost a mirror image left hander which continues for some time and then you’re getting towards the end of the lap. 03’02” (continues) Flat out through this section as you come up to the second-last corner but it’s a tricky braking and entry: you carry a lot of speed over the front axle, so it’s normal to generate under-steer as you lose speed all the way round to the last corner. A classic 90 degree right-hander, and then you’re released out onto the start-finish straight. You have the impressive Paul Ricard pit facility on the right, the mountains up ahead of you… and that’s it. 3.8km of fast French tarmac!” 03’32’’ Closing clip – Do not Talk 3 03’35’’ Jingle Highlights Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Race 1 03’39” START Good start for #10 Pierre GASLY (FRA) from pole. #32 Luca GHIOTTO (ITA) is P2 when #4 Nyck DE VRIES (NED) is repulsing #31 Ignazio D’AGOSTO (ITA) for P3 at first corner. 04’05’’ Action in the midfield while #3 Oscar TUNJO (COL) spins and causes the Safety Car to be deployed at end of lap 1. 04’12’’ Re-Start with #10 GASLY (FRA) opens the gap straight. #9 Ed JONES (UAE) retires. 04’19’’ More action in second part of the midfield with #12 Mathieu VAXIVIERE (FRA) trying to overtake #35 Kevin JOERG (SUI) by the outside. 04’28’’ #10 GASLY (FRA) cruises to victory at home – new championship leader. #32 GHIOTTO (ITA) and #4 DE VRIES (NED) join him on the podium. 04’41’’ GRAPHICS – Race Classification 04’53’’ Interview Winner - #10 Pierre GASLY (FRA) (TECH 1 RACING) Language English “I’m very happy to win here as it is different from the other tracks. I’m very happy to win at the only French meeting of the World Series by Renault calendar.” 4 05’21” JINGLE Feature FR 2.0: Single seater skills 05’25’’ Opening clip – Do Not Talk 05’30” INTRODUCTION by DAVID COULTHARD in ENGLISH “The average age of a driver in Formula Renault 2.0 is 18. In 2 years time they will hope to progress to Formula 1… yet most of them have only just stepped up from karting” 05’42’’ Interview Esteban OCON #15 (FRA) ART Junior Team (in FRENCH) “It is the foundations. You need to learn everything, karting is the most important for learning. The 2.0 category is also important, in a way you have to re-learn everything. ” 06’02’’ Interview Nyck DE VRIES #4 (NED) Korainen GP (in ENGLISH) “It’s really hard work to get familiar with everything again. Karting from the age of 5 to 16 – so many years compared to this, my second year in cars” 06’20’’ Interview Esteban OCON #15 (FRA) ART Junior Team (in FRENCH) “The difference between Formula Renault and karting is mainly the speed, the braking and the aerodynamics.” 06’30’’ Interview Nyck DE VRIES #4 (NED) Korainen GP (in ENGLISH) “We have wings, we have gears, which I didn’t have before…” 5 06’36’’ Interview Jake DENNIS #7 (GBR) Fortec Motorsports (in ENGLISH) “The downforce is pretty amazing. To go around a corner and you feel like you’re on the limit, and then your engineer tells you to go 10kph quicker and you’ll have more grip – that’s pretty daunting to get used to!” 06’49’’ Interview Nyck DE VRIES #4 (NED) Korainen GP (in ENGLISH) “In karting you feel really free, you can see everything around you…” 06’55’’ Interview Jake DENNIS #7 (GBR) Fortec Motorsports (in ENGLISH) “In karting you see behind, in front, left and right but in this car you pretty much just see forward and a little car alongside you, that’s quite strange to get used to. Especially when 40 cars pile into turn 1 – if you lose your front wing, that’s pretty much race over, while in karting you can have quite a big hit and you’ll be fine.” 07’14” VOICE-OVER Team engineers and managers are crucial in helping these young men acclimatise quickly and maximise their potential 07’24’’ Interview Jamie DYE (GBR) Team Manager Fortec Motorsports (in ENGLISH) “The first day in the car, they’re like a kid in a toy shop – it’s a dream come true, it’s fantastic… After the first few laps and they’ve got over the excitement then they can concentrate on getting to work and we can see how they perform.” 6 07’39’’ Interview Afa Heikkinen (FIN) Team Manager Korainen GP (in ENGLISH) “As I see it, our job is to try to make them better racing drivers. So we try to teach them all the important aspects for the future, as the target for everybody here is to go to F1. Very few will succeed, but we try to give them the right tools to go forward.” 07’54’’ Closing clip – Do not Talk 07’59’’ JINGLE Highlights Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Race 2 08’03” START – WET TRACK Disastrous start for pole-man #32 Luca GHIOTTO (ITA) outflanked by #7 Jake DENNIS (UK) before spinning. 08’14’’ On wet tyres #31 Ignazio D’AGOSTO (ITA) and #34 Aurélien PANIS overtake # 7 DENNIS with slicks. 08’20’’ #11 Egor ORUDZHEV (RUS) fights against #9 Ed JONES (UAE) then spins. 08’34’’ Unleashed #34 PANIS puts #31 Ignazio D’AGOSTO (ITA) under pressure and overtakes him for P1. 08’41’’ #16 Andrea PIZZITOLA (Fra) takes off and hurts the concrete wall.
