Kehr The aim of the “GECO” book series, to which this book belongs, is to per- petuate the work of GECO “Groupe d’études pour la Chirurgie osseuse” (Group for the Study of Bone surgery) and to celebrate the thirty years of existence of the group. Born in 1976, GECO was at the beginning the meeting place of a group of young surgeons in orthopedics and traumatology who brought together their patient fi les in order to carry out prospective studies and improve their knowledge. Very soon the group, through an annual meeting that was organized with the support of Fournitures Hospitaliers (FH Orthopedics), gathered in January of each year a growing number of orthopedic surgeons from Europe - over 300 at present - at its round tables and its oral presentations, mostly from France but also from all over the world. GECO today is a group of over 25 permanent members and six specialty groups representing the major sub-specialties of orthopedics and trauma- tology. With a regular publication rhythm of one to two books per year, the GECO has given himself given as a goal to provide the community of orthopedic surgery the fruit of his refl ections and its work.
