Date: Monday 22nd June 2020 Update LATEST INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS, PARENTS AND CARERS (Students should also read the Student Daily News each day) Welcome back to year 10 Staff are very much looking forward to welcoming back our Year 10 students this week as we return to some face-to-face classroom teaching and learning. It has been far too long! For most students, the building has been closed for nearly 3 months and we are delighted that we can now begin to return to a sense of normality. The scientific advice received by the government and the local authority, alongside the clear hygiene and social distancing arrangements and thorough risk assessments we have in place, indicate very low risk, so long as all students and families socially distance and observe hygiene arrangements. I do hope that you have had the opportunity to watch the video guide about the return to school. The video will hopefully have provided you with lots of information about what the return to school will look like and the steps we have taken to ensure the safety of students and staff. If you have any questions relating to this week’s return to the building please do not hesitate to contact us [email protected] Thank you to the students and parents who have let school know that, due to illness or a pre-existing medical condition of themselves or a family member, they will be unable to attend this week. We will ensure that the right work is sent to you so that you are able to work from home. It is very reassuring though to hear that the vast majority of students are expecting to attend school on their allocated day(s) and we are looking forward to seeing you. Remote Learning in our Virtual School Whilst I am delighted to welcome year 10 students, I would like nothing more than to welcome all students back this week. Unfortunately, in-line with government policy, we are just not yet able to offer wider re-opening to students in other year groups. Students in Years 7-9 will continue to learn via our virtual school 5 days a week. Miss Upton has produced a short video for students and parents here that explains how we will further develop the teaching and learning in our virtual school so that it is as interactive and engaging as possible for you. It is important that Year 10 students continue to work hard in the virtual school on the 4 days that they are working from home. Completion of the work set and submission of the key piece from each subject remains compulsory and hard work, both in school and at home, is vital so that academic progress is not affected. As usual, please find advice for your child below to help with their online learning: This week the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) are working with BBC Bitesize to deliver a full week of GCSE lessons themed around Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet. BBC Bitesize is running a daily programme of online lessons and the Bitesize team are publishing new lessons each day this week, devised by the RSC for Year 10 students studying Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet. As well as introducing social and historical context, the lessons give students insights into how actors and directors work in the rehearsal room and get students to try out some scenes and speeches at home. Focussing on Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth, the lessons offer special insights from RSC actors and directors about how to decode Shakespeare’s language and develop skills that will help them to write and talk about new texts with confidence. This is the second of three weeks of RSC Shakespeare lessons on BBC Bitesize - the third week, for Key Stage 3 (age 11-14) runs from 22 to 26 June. Do today's Shakespeare lesson on BBC Bitesize BBC Bitesize Daily is designed to support the curriculum and educational needs of children across the nation during the current Coronavirus pandemic. As well as the Shakespeare teaching weeks there are also six RSC plays now available on iPlayer as part of the BBC's Culture in Quarantine programme. These are: Macbeth - with Christopher Eccleston and Niamh Cusack Hamlet - directed by Simon Godwin with Paapa Essiedu Romeo and Juliet directed by our Deputy Artistic Director Erica Whyman Much Ado About Nothing - directed by Christopher Luscombe Othello - with Hugh Quarshie and Lucian Msamati The Merchant of Venice - directed by Polly Findlay Have a great day, Headteacher Mossley Hollins High School .
