In the absence of any Second XI cricket and the One Day Cup competition, the Bob Willis Trophy reports have been expanded to include a write up for each day’s play as well as the full scorecards. Sadly all fixtures were played behind closed doors so hopefully these extended reports will enable readers to get the feeling of actually being at the game! In addition, the Somerset Women’s team reports plus the Boys and Girls Pathway write ups are included in the first half of the book as they now come under the remit of Somerset CCC rather than the Somerset Cricket Board.

  • The Hunts Herald News About the Huntingdonshire County Cricket Club Edition 5, Spring 2011
The Hunts Herald News about the Huntingdonshire County Cricket Club Edition 5, Spring 2011 Gary Whitbread 1st July 1957- 10th January 2011 The County Club was very shocked and saddened when Chairman Gary Whitbread passed away peacefully in Addenbrookes Hospital on Monday 10th January 2011 after a bravely borne illness. Gary was 53 and had been Chairman for six years prior to which he had been Vice Chairman, Manager and of course player. He was a very well known sporting figure in the District having played cricket for Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, Hatley, Papworth and Kimbolton as well as football for St Neots Town and Eynesbury Rovers. Apart from being current Chairman of the County Club he was a member of the over 50’s County eleven and the Club representative on the Huntingdonshire County Cricket Board. He left a wife Tammy, son Ben and daughter Abbie as well as two grandchildren Finley and Niamh. He was a very devoted family man, kind generous and extremely gregarious and he nurtured a special interest in encouraging youngsters in both football and cricket spending some of his time as the goalkeeping coach at Eynesbury as well as attending the County U19 cricket fixtures. His long association with Huntingdonshire cricket began with schools cricket before going on to play for the full County side 64 times between 1979 and 2002. He also made several appearances for Cambridgeshire in the Minor Counties competition. Over 500 family members, friends, cricketers, footballers and work colleagues attended Gary’s funeral at St.Neots Parish Church on Friday 28 January.

  • Sussex Sharks V. Essex Eagles Royal London One-Day Cup, South Group the Saffrons, Eastbourne. Sunday 3Rd June 2018. an Unbeaten
Sussex Sharks v. Essex Eagles Royal London One-Day Cup, South Group The Saffrons, Eastbourne. Sunday 3rd June 2018. An unbeaten Laurie Evans hundred was the highlight for Sussex Sharks during a four-wicket defeat to Essex Eagles in the Royal London One-Day Cup at Eastbourne. The loss in Sussex’s final match of the South Group confirms the side’s exit from this year’s competition. In front of over 4,000 people on a glorious summer’s day at The Saffrons, Evans’ 107 not out was the backbone of the Sharks’ 281-7. Having been inserted by the visitors, Sussex were in trouble at 46-3 in the 11th over when Evans arrived at the crease to put on 113 with Harry Finch in 22.5 overs. Against generally accurate Essex bowling it was never easy for the pair to accelerate on a slow wicket. Sussex were forced to rebuild again when three wickets fell for six runs, including Finch for 56 who was stumped by Wheater off a wide, the first of two wickets in successive balls for Zaidi who then deceived Michael Burgess with an arm ball. The Sharks were 174-6 with ten overs to go, but Evans found excellent support from Chris Jordan and Jofra Archer as 107 were plundered off the last ten overs. Jordan made 35 at a run a ball before Archer hit out spectacularly with 33 from 15 balls including three sixes and two fours to the delight of the bumper crowd. Evans reached his century in the final over when he belted Sam Cole to the mid-off boundary for his eighth four.

U’s NEWS THE NEWSLETTER OF UPMINSTER CRICKET CLUB FROM THE CHAIRMAN’S OFFICE Welcome to the 2nd edition of the UCC Newsletter! We had some great feedback from the first edition at the start of the season, so great to know that you enjoyed it. We plan to produce the newsletter four times throughout the year, so do let us know if there’s anything specific you’d like to see in here in the fu- NICKY ISON - FIRST XI CAPTAIN ture, or indeed if you’d like to become a contributor. For this mid-season edition, we are also producing some physical copies so keep your eyes out for those! As you can read about in here, it’s been a hectic social calendar so far this season helped by England’s success in the World Cup. There’s certainly been lots happening and the best thing for me is that we’ve had a much wider range of our members all getting more involved in the various events. There’s nothing better than seeing the clubhouse being well used and enjoyed by so many people, and my thanks go to all of those who have worked hard to make these events happen. On the playing side, there’s everything to play for in the second half of the season at both ends of the table! There’s a great summary of the story so far for all of our league teams, and let’s hope we can get some more wins under our belt in the coming weeks.

THE HAMPSHIRE CRICKET SOCIETY Patrons: John Woodcock Shaun Udal NEWSLETTER No. 355 –SEPTEMBER 2016 MEETINGS Wednesday 28 September 2016-Meeting This evening’s speaker is Don Topley, to whom the Society extends a very warm welcome. In the wake of Hampshire signing his son, Reece, he has already become a familiar face to many in the Arlott Atrium, and has undertaken commentary work on BBC Radio Solent with Kevan James. THOMAS DONALD TOPLEY was born in Canterbury on 25 February 1964, and educated at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, Suffolk. He had cricket in his genes as his older brother, Peter, had played for Kent (1972-75). He first became known to cricket followers on the biggest stage possible. In 1984, whilst on the Lord’s ground staff, and in front of the television cameras, he came on as a substitute fielder (for Chris Broad) for England against West Indies and took a marvellous left-handed catch on the boundary off a Malcolm Marshall hook shot. Unfortunately, he put one foot over the rope in the process, thus earning the flamboyant all-rounder a reprieve. Shortly afterwards, he made his debut against a first-class county when he played for Norfolk against Hampshire in a Nat West Trophy match at Lakenham, in which he claimed the wicket of Tim Tremlett. He made his first-class debut for Surrey against Cambridge University at Fenner’s in 1985, but shortly afterwards began a ten-year association with Essex. A tall (6 ft 3 ins) right-arm medium fast bowler, with a mop of black curly hair, he went on to take 367 first-class wickets (avge.
