! " ANDREW GOSLING" 26th October 1944 - 11th May 2016" A PERSONAL APPRECIATION OF HIS LIFE BY IAN KEILL" I first met Andrew Gosling in 1970 when he edited a less than reverential film I made about William Wordsworth for “Late Night Line-Up”. After that he collaborated with me on many productions - first as film editor, then as director - for over twenty-five years. We became a sort of Ant-and- Dec-Behind-the-Camera." He was a man of great talent and enormous charm. Someone who could be relied on to come up with the goods with the least amount of fuss. In all the time I worked with him we rarely had a disagreement. It was a very happy and fruitful partnership." Andrew was educated at Eton - a fact that he played down all his life. He never used his school- ing as a stepping stone to anything … he made his way in life the way he wanted. Simply. Gen- tly. However, during his time at Eton he directed a stage production of T. S. Elliot’s “Murder in the Cathedral”. This was well received, and it resulted in him securing a place at the Oxford Play- house. There then followed work at the Century travelling theatre - an incredible set-up present- ing plays from a set of lumbering wagons trailing from town to town all over the North of England. Here he did anything and everything associated with being an ‘Assistant Stage Manager and Small Parts’." In the 1960s he decided to change course, and became a film editor at Associated Redi$usion.

  • Shakespeare on Film, Video & Stage
William Shakespeare on Film, Video and Stage Titles in bold red font with an asterisk (*) represent the crème de la crème – first choice titles in each category. These are the titles you’ll probably want to explore first. Titles in bold black font are the second- tier – outstanding films that are the next level of artistry and craftsmanship. Once you have experienced the top tier, these are where you should go next. They may not represent the highest achievement in each genre, but they are definitely a cut above the rest. Finally, the titles which are in a regular black font constitute the rest of the films within the genre. I would be the first to admit that some of these may actually be worthy of being “ranked” more highly, but it is a ridiculously subjective matter. Certainly, an unprecedented proportion of voters participated in general elections and belonged to the three main political parties at this time. These parties were moreover often rooted in local popular cultures. The Young Conservatives, for example, had in excess of 150,000 members, many of whom enjoyed a vibrant collective social life that encompassed sports of various kinds and even holidays to Spain.1 In spite of this most Britons’ relationship with Westminster politics was hardly intimate, certainly not before 1939 nor during the 1950s, and as the latter decade gave way to the 1960s and 1970s it became increasingly distant.2 Hitherto Labour and the Conservatives had found class a useful means of mobilizing support and while they continued to employ class-based appeals, the rising salience of other forms of identity meant they became less effective.3 The established working- and middle-class communities in which the parties had found a niche were being transformed and replaced by the self-conscious individualism of a new kind of suburbia.

Osm let před svými a Lynnovými úspěšnými „britkomy“, v roce 1972, napsal například Domácího průvodce Společenstvím obrany proti byrokratické agresi.

Interesting fun, but with no big focus or payoffBy DalcassianThere is not much bad to say about the author or the book, though it might prove disappointing to fans of "My Cousin Vinny" about which relatively little appears. The book has the strengths of its design -- mixing how-to with autobiography and thereby giving us insights and nice anecdotes of life, creativity, and celebrity, along with a fair dose of laughter.

  • Talent Tracking
ON SCREEN AND ON AIR TALENT AN ASSESSMENT OF THE BBC’S APPROACH AND IMPACT A REPORT FOR THE BBC TRUST APPENDIX II – TALENT TRACKING BY OLIVER & OHLBAUM ASSOCIATES APRIL 2008 1 APPENDIX II – TALENT TRACKING The objective was to find how the sources of the various network broadcasters’ talent differ, by genre and in some cases over time. Presenter loyalty to broadcasters would also be shown as a result of the ‘talent tracking’. A BARB database consisting of every strand aired on BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, C4 and Five in 2007 was used to select the relevant strands. Strands with less than 300 annual broadcast hours were not considered for analysis. Strands were chosen from genres that have a strong dependence on the quality and audience appeal of their presenter or lead performer. Hence the genres chosen were: • Entertainment, consisting of sub genres ‘Chat Shows’, ‘Quiz/Game Shows’, ‘Family Shows’ and ‘Panel Shows’ • Factual Documentary, consisting of sub genres ‘History’, ‘Human Interest’, ‘Natural History’, ‘Science/ Medical’ • Lifestyle, consisting of sub genres ‘Cooking’, ‘DIY’ and ‘Homes’ • Comedy, consisting of sub genres ‘Situation Comedy’ and ‘Other Comedy’ The talent analysis would then be taken form these selected strands. In the cases where talent appeared for the same channel on more than one strand, the talent was still only considered once for tracking analysis. If talent appeared on more than one channel, then their tracking would appear in all relevant channel profiles. Various different web-based sources were used to best map out the talent’s career. www.wikipedia.org and www.tv.com have career résumés on most of the selected talent; for a deeper and more comprehensive analysis, www.imdb.com and www.spotlight.com were used as reliable programme and talent databases.

Stand-Up Comedy and Everyday Life: Post-war British Comedy and the Subversive Strain. Christopher Ritchie. Goldsmiths College, London, Ph. D Drama, 1998. - ME Ia- AM GOLDSMITHS 87 0079879 6 Abstract. This thesis "examinee,,, its to life , . stand-up comedy and relation everyday and presents a model of everyday life in the commodity society. It seeks to define stand up comedy and how it works as a performance mode and will offer a definition of the stand-up comedian. It will examine how jokes reflect opinions and attitudes within everyday life and how they can communicate negative cultural myths, stereotypes and ideologies but also reach beyond the merely absurd and comical to present authentic moments that enable us to locate the truth about ourselves. The thesis seeks to locate a stand-up comedy that enables us to understand ourselves in relation to life in the commodity society. The thesis traces a subversive lineage through post-Second World War comedy from The Goon Show through the satirists of the 1960s and Monty Pylhon's Flying Circus to Alternative Comedy and stand-up comedians in the present day. The 'Alternative Comedy moment' between 1979 and 1981 is central to the thesis as is the relation to American stand-up comedy, Punk and the rise of reactionary humour in Britain. Alternative Comedy is identified and placed in a social, political and counter-cultural context. The achievements and failures of this comedy will be discussed with particular focus on the redefinition of the role of women and sexual politics in stand-up comedy and the creation of a thriving London cabaret and comedy scene.
