SpArC Theatre Events - October 2016 Tickets 01588 630321/638038 www.sparctheatre.co.uk Thurs 6th 7pm Australian Ballet, Fairytale Series: Tickets £12.00/£10.00 Sleeping Beauty Fairies, a prince and a spell-shattering kiss: don’t miss the world premiere of David McAllister’s The Sleeping Beauty in cinemas. This highly anticipated new production by the Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet takes history’s most loved fairy tale into the modern age, with lavish sets and costumes by Gabriela Tylesova and never-seen-before staging, designs and choreography. In a supernatural world of good and evil, Princess Aurora becomes cursed by a sorcerer on her sixteenth birthday, but by some fast thinking by The Lilac Fairy she falls into a deep sleep and is saved from death. One day, a lonely Prince searches for his true love and awakens the princess with a kiss. Saturday 8th 7pm The Met Opera: Tristan & Isolde Tickets £12/£8 The three acts of the opera are originally set, respectively, aboard ship on the Irish Sea, in Cornwall and in Brittany . Wagner’s preservation of this context emphasizes several key themes associated with ancient Celtic culture: mysticism, knowledge of the magic arts, an evolved warrior code, and a distinctly non-Christian vision of the possibilities of the afterlife. Hugely influencial and widely acknowledged as one of the peaks of the operatic repertoire the MET Opera brings you this spectacular production. 2 intervals. SpArC Theatre Events - September 2016 Tickets 01588 630321/638038 www.sparctheatre.co.uk Wednesday 12th 7pm Live RSC Screening: King Lear Tickets £11/£7 Antony Sher returns to the RSC to play King Lear, one of the greatest parts written by Shakespeare in this, one of Shakespeare’s most epic and powerful plays. King Lear has ruled for many years. As age begins to overtake him, he decides to divide his kingdom amongst his children, living out his days without the burden of power. Misjudging his children’s loyalty and finding himself alone in the wilderness, he is left to confront the mistakes of a life that has brought him to this point.

Saturday 22nd 5.55pm THE MET OPERA: Don Giovanni Tickets £12/£8 The city of Seville in southern Spain, where Mozart originally set his opera, was already famous in his time as a mythical world of winding streets, hot-blooded young men, and exotically beautiful women sequestered behind latticed windows. ased on the legends of Don Juan, a fictional libertine and seducer. The Met’s production places the action in an unnamed Spanish city in the mid -18th century. Don Giovanni blends comedy, melodrama and the supernatural

Thursday 27th 7.15pm KBTC: The Entertainer Tickets £11/£7 Kenneth Branagh in the title role of this modern classic written by seminal British playwright, Oscar-winning screenwriter and former Clun resident, John Osborne. The first of three plays to be broadcast live to cinemas, it took £1.6 million at the UK box office. This has at its centre the memorably sad, middle-aged figure of fading music-hall star Archie Rice, whose failing career is set against the backdrop of post-Colonial decline and personal tragedy.

Saturday 29th 7pm Live Theatre: Spillikin Tickets £10/£6 Artificial intelligence meets aged care in an odd-couple romance featuring four actors and a real robot. It starts with an awkward teenager meeting an unattainable girl, and then jump-cuts backwards and forwards through the pivotal moments of a long relationship lasting from youth to old age – up until, the husband’s illness, and finally the wife’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. In response to this the husband, already an obsessive archivist, builds a perfected robotic version of himself, to be deployed after his death: a patient carer, an aide-memoir, a singing partner, able to give order to her confusion, and to bear without complaint the endless repetition required to reassure her. As her mind deteriorates their exchanges acquire an odd poetry, a secret language expressed as a duet. And, on some level, their love survives.
