THE STONY CREEK ASSOCIATION -- NOMINEE BIO’S ANNUAL MEETING/ELECTION Monday, July 11th 2016 5-8 pm Willoughby Wallace Memorial Library Eligible voters: all individual property owners and registered Branford voters 18 and over residing within Stony Creek Association boundaries PRESIDENT Daniel Bullard : Dan lives with his wife Holly and stepdaughter Abbie, has three daughters and six grandchildren. He is active in The Church of Christ, a past member of the RTM, an incumbent on The Stony Creek Association, past member of the Police Commissioners, and is a member of the Thimble Islands Sailing Club and Off Soundings Club. Dan is a graduate of Yale, president of Bullard Financial, and a principal of ONESCO in Branford. TREASURER Gregory Ames: Greg and Nina have owned their Stony Creek home since 1989 and have been full-time residents since 1999. Greg is the president of Ames and Whitaker, Architects and has served as treasurer of the Connecticut Building Congress, and as treasurer and president of the Connecticut chapter of the American Institute of Architects, A.I.A. New England and the Mountainbrook Homeowner's Association. He is currently treasurer of The Stony Creek Association. TAX COLLECTOR Nick Fischer: Nick spent his childhood in Stony Creek, moving in 1988 to Guilford where he and his wife raised their two children. He moved his family back in 2009 to Linden Point Road where he currently resides. Nick established Fischer Excavating, Inc., in 1987 in Branford and has done a majority of the excavation work in Stony Creek and on the Thimble Islands. He is a graduate of the University of New Haven where he received a BS in Finance. AUDITOR Charles Torre: Charlie has been a resident of the Creek since 1965 and retired in 2004 as Director of Treasury at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He is a former chairman and member of the board of directors of the Better Business Bureau of Connecticut, is an active member of St. Therese Church, serving as a trustee of the church's Knights of Columbus Council, and also serves as a Eucharist Minister. He serves as auditor for The Stony Creek Association. EXECUTIVE BOARD Brian Ameche: I rented in Stony Creek a few years ago, loved it and have moved here. My architectural background includes 27 years in design and construction of over 200 projects. I've served extensively in local planning and zoning (served on P&Z in Durham, CT for 15 years, was Chair of the Conservation Commission, as well). My hope is to serve preservation, community and, where appropriate, development and I believe I have the skills to assist the SCA with its mission. Robert Babcock: Bob returned to Stony Creek thirteen years ago. He enjoys being active in the community where he lives. Bob founded The Branford Education Foundation. Bob serves as a board member of the Stony Creek Museum. He Co-Chaired for The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in Cheshire and is Chairman of the Finance Committee at the Church of Christ Congregational in Stony Creek. He is past President of Fire Protection Testing Inc. Laura Barr: A Stony Creek resident for over 30 years, believes in civil discourse and thoughtful, balanced decision making. She is a champion for the arts, concerned with preserving the uniqueness of our village, coastal management and protecting our shoreline. Graphic Designer & Fine Artist. BA, Tufts University, BFA, School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Serves on boards of WWM Library, Arts Council of Greater New Haven, Chairs the Art Committee of the Friends of the WWM Library. Dave Cannel: Massachusetts native; moved to Connecticut in 1968; 36 year resident of Stony Creek. BA Colgate University; BArch Pratt Institute; 41 years practicing architecture in New Haven; semi-retired since 2010. Former board member and president of Eli Whitney Museum in Hamden; former board member of Guilford Handcraft (now Art) Center. Non-aligned voter (not fond of partisan politics). Like to travel, but a New Englander at heart; have loved the CT shore, particularly Stony Creek – it’s home. Christine Chiocchio: Christine teaches art at Stony Creek Studios and is co-owner of Seaside gift shop. She has served on several boards including the Foote School and currently serves on the board of the Yale Alumni Service Corps. Watching her children grow up in the Creek, painting and photographing its beauty, and participating in the community has given her an appreciation for Stony Creek as well as sense of responsibility to preserve its character as the village grows. Peter DaRos: Peter has been employed by the Dougherty Oil Company for 46 years and has been warden for the Branford Parks & Open Space since 1971. For 50 plus years he has volunteered as a firefighter, was a past captain and then promoted to Volunteer Assistant Chief and he still serves today. Previous SCA board member for 15 years he stepped down to run Boy Scout Troop 441. Born and raised in Stony Creek where he lives with his wife Kathy. Theodore Ells: Presently serves on the Executive Board as Legal and Zoning Chair. He served from 2008 to July 2014, as Vice President, Legal/Zoning Chair, Bayview Park Committee, Co-Chair, and on Village District Committee. He Chairs Branford Board of Ethics, is on Connecticut Real Estate Commission and is Vice President of Stony Creek Museum. His law office is in Stony Creek. Tina and he have three daughters and 6 grandchildren. He hopes to help improve the quality of life in the community. Sandra Fischer: Sandra moved to Stony Creek in 1970 with Phil and their four children. She has a Masters in Environmental Education, and retired after teaching science at Westbrook Middle School for twenty-five years. She has been active in many civic affairs within the community and is a multi-term member of The Stony Creek Association board. Ed Gagliardi: I was born in Stony Creek and have always had a presence here. I now am the third generation in my home. I have lived here for 15 years. However my memories of the summers and visits to my Grandparents ( Meneguzzi) always gave me the feeling of Stony Creek being home. I am retired from the ATT where I managed business case analysis and product profitability work among other functions. I now enjoy what Stony Creek has to offer. Katina Gionteris : I may not have lived here all my life but I played at the Stony Creek Community Center and worked at the Indian Point Club as a kid. I moved here in 1988 with my mother and brother (Jimmy Balacos). Currently I live on Howd Ave with my husband and 3 sons. I would like to focus on community minded activities that make Stony Creek the special place it is and to promote positive activities in Stony Creek. Jerald Greenvall: Jake, a life-long Stony Creek resident, is the former Stony Creek Association tax collector for twenty-plus years. He retired as a systems analyst from SNET. He is a fifty-year member of Rescue Co. #5 and was a member of the committee that planned and implemented conversion of the old St. Therese Church into a Stony Creek Community Center in the 1970s. He is treasurer of the Stony Creek Cemetery Association. Michael Infantino, Jr.: Michael is a lifetime resident of Stony Creek. He has been the owner of Sea Mist, LLC Thimble Islands Cruise for about 35 years, a member of Stony Creek Rescue Co. 5. for over 30 years, and past captain of Marine 5 fireboat and is still an active member. Sam Kirby: Sam has lived in Stony Creek fifteen years and raised two children here. In 2003, he bought a home on Thimble Islands Road. Sam is a graduate of Yale College and Yale School of Architecture. He is currently an Associate of Newman Architects in New Haven. He is a member of the Thimble Islands Sailing Club and volunteers at the Stony Creek Museum. Sam is interested in the character of the architecture and coastline of this unique community. Peter Kusterer: 32 year resident/owner at Stony Creek harborside; owner of Stony Creek marina, landlord to Thimbleberry Deli & Thimble Marine. 67 year part-time Kidd's Island resident with special knowledge & appreciation of the community's history & tradition. A hands-on, bloody knuckler, who improves properties while preserving the flavors of the village waterfront. Diane Brecciaroli-Latkowski: Owns and operates DBL Associates, a Branford based Executive Search Firm. A Previous board member and was instrumental in the negotiations to lower the cost of the new playground. Known in both her personal and professional life for her high integrity and ethics as well as her genuine concern for anyone she comes in contact with, she will bring great attention to detail and careful consideration to the issues that concern Creekers. She has lived in Stony Creek for fourteen years. Linda Reed: Village resident since 1984; 35+ yrs. experience in land use/zoning/coastal management issues; extensive background in land use & labor law; Zoning/Wetlands/Blight Enforcement Officer for major CT municipality; certificated in zoning (CAZEO/UConn) & inland wetlands (CT-DEEP); Fairfield (Biology); Yale (Environmental Planning); multi-term SCA Board member (co-chair -- Legal/Zoning & Police/Traffic; Special Committee Member -- Village District & Bayview Park playground); St. Therese Church (lector, parish advisory board); help preserve/protect natural & cultural community resources and represent interests of all residents. Mark Richter: Laura and I have owned and operated the Stony Creek Package Store for 10 years. As a board member I will always have “The Creeks” best interest in mind.
