Nelson, 1500 San Jose, 1510 San Jose, 1561 San Jose, 1851 Alameda, 2130 Menlo Park, 8612 From the 2017 Top Seller - 8,612 Boxes Would you rather buy a box of cookies or a box of hopes and dreams? Everyone who I sold cookies to said hopes and dreams. These are my dreams to sell tons of Girl Scout cookies and do business plans etc., and opportunities for other Girl Scout to learn leadership skills while selling cookies. I set goals, made a business plan and worked hard to achieve these goals. I have been a Girl Scout for the past three years. In past years, I have always gone way above my goal. Most people would call this a success, but I felt I could do better and it was not enough. So this year, I was going to aim even higher. I set my goal at 10,000 boxes. Well, 10,000 boxes in only a month or less may seem ridiculous to you, and it did to other people as well. But, it did not seem crazy to me, so I went for it. Although I did not reach my goal, I sold 8,612 boxes. I am glad that I set the goal of 10,000 boxes. By setting high standards, I achieved less than I dreamed but more than I ever imagined. Although people said I couldn’t reach my goal or come anywhere close, I wanted to make myself proud by going higher than people’s expectations. I would sit down, hour after hour on sick days, before debate class, and after rehearsals to write emails and call my friends and family. Most of my sales came from online sales. When I first heard about online sales in 2nd grade, my Girl Scout leader said it would be a little challenging for us, and we might want to hold off until next year. But I came home not knowing whether or not to try online sales for my first year of Girl Scout cookie selling. I was tired from thinking about hard work. When I told my mom that night about online sales she said, “No, you’ll do it, because hard work and time accomplishes goals.” Effort takes struggle, hard work and time. My advice to all Brownies and Girl Scouts is to think about what would they want to buy and how they can sell it. That way, they can have fun and develop business, sales, and leadership skills. Les Brown says, “Failure does not come in aiming too high and missing it; it comes in shooting too low and making it.” Thank you and Good Night! -Melanie G.
