Additional Information on 10mm f5.6 OP-Fisheye Nikkor Lens 10mm f/5.6 OP FISHEYE-NIKKOR Originally introduced in 1968 and was discontinued eight years later in the mid of 1976. This is a highly specialized lens that offers unique orthographic projection (OP) characteristics producing a circular image of 180 degree . The image reproduced, however, is larger in the center and gradually becomes more compressed toward the periphery than the images produced by other Fisheye-Nikkors. To meet the exacting OP requirements, an aspherical front lens is employed. This projection formula provides a special configuration through which the luminance of a place is measured. When the light source is photographed with the OP Fisheye-Nikkor, the proportion of the image area of the light source to the total area represents the luminance or brightness of the place. This proportion is called the "configuration factor" or "sky factor" when the light source is the sky. This feature is effectively applied to architectural design, civic improvement, street lighting, fire safety studies and other specialized applications. The lens is also useful in advertising photography to emphasize the main subject by taking advantage of the OP characteristics. Another characteristic of the OP design is that subjects of the same brightness are reproduced with equal density, no matter where they are positioned in the picture. Therefore, even with the use of narrow latitude color film, uniform image brightness is obtained over the entire circular field. A fixed-focus lens, it requires the mirror to be in the "up" locked position before mounting. An accessory viewfinder, which can also be used on the 6mm f/5.6 Fisheye- Nikkor, is available. -

The DCS Story 17 years of Kodak Professional digital camera systems 1987-2004 Jim McGarvey June 2004 Electro-Optic Camera (1988) By 1987, Kodak had developed the world's first megapixel CCD imager, the M1. A US Government customer contracted with the Federal Systems Division (FSD) to incorporate the M1 into a standard 35 mm camera body to create the first megapixel portable digital camera, truly the prototype of the digital camera system (DCS) product line. It was designed for covert use, with the black box in a camera bag and the ribbon cable to the camera body concealed inside the neck strap. Images were downloaded from the internal hard drive by docking the black box on an Exabyte tape archive unit. (The first digital camera dock!) The Canon F1 film camera body had no electronic interface, so the shutter release was detected by monitoring the battery current. The imager package was mounted to a TE cooler to reduce noise, but cooling was limited to prevent fogging the cover glass and was not very effective. Only one unit was built. A New Method for the Measurement of Photographic Filter Factors
. A NEW METHOD FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF PHOTOGRAPHIC FILTER FACTORS By Raymond Davis ABSTRACT A new method is described whereby the filter factors for orthochromatic and pan- chromatic plates with various filters may be determined with apparatus using a source of light which is corrected in its spectral energy distribution to closely approxi- mate that of average noon sunlight. The apparatus is essentially a single light source photometer in which two beams one from either side of the lamp, are reflected so that they fall side by side on the photographic plate which is used in conjunction with the filter. In the path of one of these beams the filter is inserted, consequently weakening the light in that beam. The lamp, being movable between two of the reflectors, is shifted toward the filter, thus increasing the intensity of the beam on the filter side and diminishing it on the other. Successive exposures are thus made at different lamp positions, so chosen that some fall on one side of the photographic match and some on the other. After development the differences in density between each pair of exposures is measured, and the position of a photographic match obtained therefrom by plotting these differences against the scale of the instrument.
