If you're wearing a leather moto jacket, listening to Future Islands, and drinking Blue Bottle coffee, you've probably stayed at some pretty hip hotels in New York City. To see where other cool kids stay, check out Trippy.com so you’ll be sure to impress the next time you check in. Hang With the In Crowd at New York's Trendiest Boutique Hotels Trippy.com The High Line Hotel A former seminary that was once owned by Clement C. Moore, the man who penned “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” the High Line Hotel (not to be confused with The Standard, High Line) is currently enjoying as much popularity and praise as the beloved nearby public park after which it is named. Although the eye candy here is plentiful, be sure to check out the Gothic splendor and delicate stained glass windows of The Refectory room. The NoMad Hotel This very popular hotel is a favorite of Trippy advisor Tim Ferriss and perhaps not for the reasons you might expect. Here’s why: “…my favorite aspect is the food. Eleven Madison Park Restaurant is always booked for weeks out. It's one of the most famous restaurants in NYC. Unbeknownst to many, Daniel Humm (exec chef from 11 Madison) does all the food at NoMad. I highly recommend brunch or lunch—less crowded than dinner and getting the duck or slow-cooked egg. Definitely worth a test drive.” Wythe Hotel No “Cool Kids” list of any kind would be complete without a mention of that epicenter of hipness, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Like so many of this borough’s greatest buildings, the Wythe Hotel started life as a factory just after the turn of the 20th century. It now offers rooms with exposed brick, commissioned art, beds made from the structure’s reclaimed pine, and a guarantee that you’re as cool as they come. The Greenwich Hotel If your idea of cool is more Catherine Deneuve than say, Chloë Sevigny, this elegant location might be your place. Trippy member Brew Johnson explains why: “ The Greenwich Hotel is a great spot, more mellow and laid back than some of the hipster joints mentioned in other reviews, but old school cool, New York. Great Italian restaurant, Locanda Verde on ground floor. Interesting fact, the hotel is owned by Robert DeNiro.” The Maritime Hotel Sophistication meets whimsy in this nautical-themed Chelsea District hotel. Built to look like cabins in a vintage yacht, the rooms here are so cozy and elegant you might not want to leave them. That said, leave you should as The Maritime has an exceptionally good restaurant and a rooftop bar that feels like something out of a really great 1960s teen beach movie. Ace Hotel If you’re looking for peace and quiet, the Ace Hotel might not be your place but if you’re looking to add more patches to your hipster sash, book immediately. Charming, if a bit manufactured, the décor here is Industrial Chic with rooms that lean more towards modern dorm than elegant hotel. Still, the hustle and bustle in the lobby is exhilarating and it’s certainly a great place to feel like part of the In Crowd. The Bowery Hotel You know how sometimes the coolest kid on the block also happens to be the nicest? The same might be said of the Bowery Hotel. With an exceptionally friendly staff, a warm English country house feel, and a refreshingly low-key vibe, its quiet hipness makes it a favorite among both visitors and New Yorkers. While its amenities are many, the Bowery’s complimentary film library has to be its best. Crosby Street Hotel Trippy member Cindy Gallop has a clear favorite when it comes to where she puts her head down in the city: “For serious comfort (and if budget is not an issue) I recommend the Crosby Street Hotel down in SoHo. Companion hotel to the hotel I always stay in in London, the Haymarket Hotel - great rooms, great bar, and restaurant, outdoor terraces, nice loft vibe.” Gansevoort Meatpacking NYC Having gained fame as a “Sex in the City” location, the Gansevoort still maintains a velvet rope exclusivity despite no longer being the only hotel game in the Meatpacking District. Its rooms are relatively spacious and well designed but its prize space is the rooftop pool/bar that lures the young and beautiful all summer long. It’s only open to guests, though, so keep that in mind before blowing up your water wings. With amenities like rooftop yoga, guided running tours, and a fleet of bicycles, you can walk out more buff than when you came in. Not into fitness? Take advantage of the in-room bartending tutorials they offer instead.
