[email protected] BLM, coast ‘I always knew this could happen. I’ve learned that 24 of us can come together. It was tough at first, but we’ve really united.’ – SUSAN O. GORDON Audubon to cooperate in CORNER GALLERY OPENS monitoring The Daily Journal The California Bureau of Land Management and Mendocino Coast Audubon have signed an agreement that will allow the two organizations to work togeth- er to monitor natural resources on the coast. In a memorandum of understanding, signed last week, the two organizations agreed to coordinate the monitoring of nat- ural resources, particularly birds, and to work together to establish and manage the Point Arena Gateway, which is part of the California Coastal National Monument. The CCNM is a chain of 20,000 islands along 1,100 miles of California coastline managed by the BLM and established in January of 2000. The CCNM covers rocks, small islands and reefs that extend up to 12 nautical miles out and provide habitat for birds, plants and marine mammals. “Members of the Audubon Society chap- ter have deep knowledge and understanding of natural resources and birds on the Mendocino Coast,” said Rick Hanks, BLM manager for the CCNM.
