4 630.595.9333 Message from the Executive Director

Dear Friends of Wood Dale Park District; We’d like to know you by name. A 2019 survey by Cigna uncovered a startling statistic, Also, if you have an idea for a that 61% of those surveyed are lonely. This is up from passive or active program, 54% in 2018. Research says that this is due to not enough activity or trip, no matter how social support, poor physical and mental health, and not obscure, talk to us. Let’s work enough balance in our lives (doing too much or too little together to combat loneliness of any given thing such as sleep or work). The isolation and have some fun! during the pandemic perpetuated this problem. One way to combat loneliness is to find community. Finding All the Best, “your people” through activities, clubs, and informal get- togethers is not only enjoyable, but it can also provide measurable health benefits such as lower rates of anxiety, higher self-esteem, empathy, and trust, decreased blood pressure, cortisol and inflammation, reduced risk of heart Matthew L. Ellmann disease and cognitive decline, and improved immune Executive DIrector function and sleep. If you are of a certain age, you probably remember the sitcom, , also known as the place “where everybody knows your name”. Whenever Norm Peterson entered Cheers, he was enthusiastically greeted by name, and he immediately felt a sense of belonging that erased the strife of the day. The theme song touts “making it in the world today takes everything you’ve got. Taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot”. We believe that to be true and we hope you find something in this brochure to help you do just that. When you come to our facilities, please introduce yourself!
