YENER Oriental Institute, University of Chicago, 1155 East 58th Street, Chicago, IL 60637, USA and H. OÈ ZBAL Faculty of Arts and Sciences, BogÆazicËi University, Istanbul, Turkey The accumulated published database of stable lead isotope analyses of ore and slag specimens taken from Anatolian mining sites that parallel the Black Sea coast has been augmented with 22 additional analyses of such specimens carried out at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Multivariate statistical analysis has been used to divide this composite database into ®ve separate ore source groups. Evidence that most of these ore sources were exploited for the production of metal artefacts during the Bronze Age and Phrygian Period has been obtained by statistically comparing to them the isotope ratios of 184 analysed artefacts from nine archaeological sites situated within a few hundred kilometres of these mining sites. Also, Appendix B contains 36 new isotope analyses of ore specimens from Central Taurus mining sites that are compatible with and augment the four Central Taurus Ore Source Groups de®ned in Yener et al. (1991). KEYWORDS: BLACK SEA, CENTRAL TAURUS, ANATOLIA, METAL, ORES, ARTEFACTS, BRONZE AGE, MULTIVARIATE, STATISTICS, PROBABILITIES INTRODUCTION This is the third in a series of papers in which we have endeavoured to evaluate the present state of the application of stable lead isotope analyses of specimens from metallic ore sources and of ancient artefacts from Near Eastern sites to the inference of the probable origins of such artefacts.

The study area is located within the borders of the Eastern Black Sea Mountains and is one of the 122 important plant areas in Turkey. The investigation of epiphytic bryophyte communities was carried out in 2016 during different vegetation periods according to Braun-Blanquet’s phytosociological methodology. Phytosociological data obtained from 65 relevés were ordinated using detrended correspondence analysis (DECORANA) and classified using two-way indicator species analysis (TWINSPAN). Consequently, six epiphytic bryophyte communities new to Turkey were determined with TWINSPAN and DECORANA: Leucobryo-Tetraphidetum pellucidae, Anomodonto attenuati-Neckeretum crispae, Frullanio tamarisci-Exsertothecetum crispae, Ulotetum crispae, Anomodonto attenuati-Neckeretum crispae-leucodontetosum sciuroidis, and Ulotetum crispae-isothecietosum alopecuroidis. • Artvin'in Nene Hatun'u": Çiçek Nene
Karadeniz İncelemeleri Dergisi, Bahar 2018; (25): 247-262 247 doi: 10.18220/kid.482275 I. DÜNYA HARBİ'NDE "ARTVİN'İN NENE HATUN'U": ÇİÇEK NENE Onur GÜVEN ÖZ "40 yıllık kara günler" olarak isimlendirilen Rus esareti döneminde (93 Harbi-I. Anahtar Sözcükler: I. Cihan Harbi, Artvin, kadın kahraman, Çiçek Nene. ARTVIN’S NENE HATUN IN WORLD WAR I: ÇİÇEK NENE ABSTRACT Enduring various troubles during the Russian slavery period (between 93 War- World War I), entitled as "40 years of dark days, locals in Artvin made a great sacrifice. The natives exposed to a mass migration lost their homeland. In 1915 when Russian attacks were intense in Artvin and around, there was strong resistance to in Savsat, which was defended by voluntary troops. While the fierce battles were going on between Russian forces and voluntary troops, Çiçek Nene's brave and heroic struggle comes out as an important figure of resistance. The legendary activities of Turkish women both behind the front and on the frontline are accepted by everyone and their struggle in battles is invaluable.

  • Lichens from the Amasya, Ã⁄Orum, and Tokat Regions of Turkey
MYCOTAXON Volume 109, pp. 181–184 July–September 2009 Lichens from the Amasya, Çorum, and Tokat regions of Turkey Kadir Kınalıoğlu [email protected] Giresun University, Faculty of Science and Arts, Department of Biology 28049, Giresun, Turkey Abstract — A total of 209 taxa were identified from 20 sampling stations in the Turkish provinces of Amasya, Çorum, and Tokat. 165 taxa are reported as new from Tokat, 63 for Amasya and 56 for Çorum. Three taxa, Leptorhaphis parameca, Ramalina pontica, and Seirophora contortuplicata, are newly recorded for Turkey. For each taxon, habitat and distributional data are presented. The complete checklist is available onhttp://www. mycotaxon.com/resources/weblists.html Key Words — biodiversity, lichenized fungi, biota, new records Introduction An increasing number of studies on the lichen biota of Turkey have been carried out in the last decade (Aslan et al. 2002, Candan & Özdemir Türk 2008, Güvenç et al. 2006, Halıcı et al. 2007, John et al. 2000, John & Breuss 2004, Kınalıoğlu 2008, Oran & Öztürk 2006, Tufan et al. 2005). Nevertheless, large gaps remain in the knowledge of lichen distribution in Turkey. Among the particularly neglected areas are Amasya, Çorum, and Tokat. Few publications report any lichens for Amasya or Çorum (John 1999, 2000, John et al. 2000, Çobanoğlu & Akdemir 2004, Leuckert & Kümmerling 1991, Lumbsch & Feige 1999, Steiner 1916, Verseghy 1982). For Tokat no published lichen records seem to exist so far. Here data are contributed from Amasya, Çorum, and Tokat, situated in the central part of the Black Sea region of Turkey (Fig. 1), based on collections from 20 sites visited on 5 October 2007 and 1 January 2008.

Abstract: This study presents a case study on the heavy metal analysis of soil and plant samples around the Murgul copper mine, one of the first and most important mining areas in Turkey. An attempt has been made to investigate the status of trace elements like Al3+, Fe2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Pb2+, Ni2+, Co2+ and Cd2+ in soils and plants. The sampling localities were taken from 500 m, 600 m, and 1000 m altitudes around the factory and at 1400 m in the forest zone. The aboveground parts and foliage ash of Silene compacta, Tussilago farfara, Smilax excelsa, Rhododendron ponticum, R. luteum, and herbal mix were analysed. The results of analysis have revealed the minimum and maximum concentrations measured in the plants as follows; aluminium (20-8985 mg kg-1), cadmium (0.0- 0.5 mg kg-1), cobalt (0.0-5.5 mg kg-1), copper (0.0-347.5 mg kg-1), iron (25-9320 mg kg-1), lead (2-51 mg kg-1), nickel (1.5-16.5 mg kg-1), and zinc (13.0-221.0 mg kg-1).

  • Allozyme Variation and Systematics of the Genus Apodemus (Rodentia: Muridae) in Asia Minor and Iran
Journal of Mammalogy, 82(3):799±813, 2001 ALLOZYME VARIATION AND SYSTEMATICS OF THE GENUS APODEMUS (RODENTIA: MURIDAE) IN ASIA MINOR AND IRAN MILOSÏ MACHOLAÂ N,* MARIA GRAZIA FILIPPUCCI,PETR BENDA,DANIEL FRYNTA, AND JOVANA SAÂ DLOVAÂ Institute of Animal Physiology and Genetics, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, VeverÏõÂ 97, 60200 Brno, Czech Republic (MM) Downloaded from https://academic.oup.com/jmammal/article/82/3/799/2372794 by guest on 30 September 2021 Department of Biology, University of Rome II, ``Tor Vergata,'' Rome 00010, Italy (MGF) National Museum, Prague 11579, Czech Republic (PB) Department of Zoology, Charles University, Prague 12844, Czech Republic (DF, JS) Starch gel electrophoresis at 36 presumptive loci was used to study genetic variation and systematic status of 110 wood mice (genus Apodemus) from 19 sites scattered across An- atolia, Armenia, and Iran. Seventeen loci were monomorphic and ®xed for the same allele among populations, whereas 19 loci were found to be polymorphic or discriminant among samples. The following species were determined in the material: A. ¯avicollis, A. uralensis, A. hermonensis, and a taxon provisionally called Apodemus cf. hyrcanicus. The study ma- terial was compared with previously analyzed samples from western Anatolia, increasing the total material to 245 specimens from 31 localities. In general, the pattern of variation and level of genetic differentiation within and among species were comparable between western and eastern samples. Intraspeci®c genetic distances were low, ranging from 0 to 0.051, but interspeci®c distances were an order of magnitude higher. Similarly, neighbor- joining trees showed negligible differentiation between populations of individual species and no sign of intraspeci®c structuring.
