STEM Grants, Awards, Outreach throughout NAC&U The Hampton University First in the World Partnership (HU-FITWP) was awarded a $3.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to increase the access to and affordability of a university education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines (STEM) for underrepresented, and or low-income students. Read more. Westminster College computer science professor Dr. Helen Hu received the Education Excellence Award at the 2014 Women in Tech Awards. Dr. Hu was awarded a three-year $800,000 National Science Foundation grant to improve computer science education in Utah high schools. Through the NSF grant, Hu introduced a new high school course "Exploring Computer Science" to over 50 Utah schools. The program already has better gender equity than any other Utah high school computer science course. Read more. The University of Evansville was only one of only six colleges to receive a 2014 National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Award for Connecting Professional Practice and Education. For their entry, UE's civil engineering senior design team worked with faculty, residents of Fairfield, Illinois, and licensed professional engineers on the Fairfield Reservoir and Dam project in Fairfield.
