FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Principal Photography Begins on PUBLIC SCHOOLED, Directed by Kyle Rideout Vancouver-shot feature comedy stars Judy Greer, Russell Peters, Grace Park and Daniel Doheny and inks deal with U.K.-based world sales agent Kaleidoscope Film Distribution Tweet this release: http://bit.ly/2gk31Yn Toronto, November 23, 2016 – The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) and production company Motion 58 are pleased to announce that principal photography begins this week on PUBLIC SCHOOLED, a new feature comedy from the team whose first feature, Eadweard, won audience choice awards at festivals in Cape Cod, Maui, Nashville and Rhode Island, a Canadian Screen Award Nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay and 12 other awards worldwide. It is the 23rd feature film to be developed and financed for production under CFC Features. Filming takes place from November 23 to December 18, 2016 in Vancouver. Directed by Kyle Rideout, the film is based on an original script by Rideout and Josh Epstein, founders of Motion 58. Epstein will also be producing, with co-producer Adam Folk (Stake Land, Welcome to New York) and executive producer Justine Whyte (Rhymes for Young Ghouls, Nurse.Fighter.Boy). The cast includes the critically-acclaimed Judy Greer (Jurassic World, Antman, War for the Planet of the Apes), Russell Peters (Source Code, The Jungle Book), Grace Park (Hawaii 5-0) and newcomer Daniel Doheny in the lead role of Liam. The film will also benefit from the support of Kaleidoscope Film Distribution (KFD), who will handle world sales (excluding Canada) and is scheduled to deliver in Summer 2017. PUBLIC SCHOOLED is the story of a socially awkward boy, Liam, who has been home-schooled his whole life. When Liam falls in love with a popular one-legged girl, he abandons his mother’s suffocating love and enrols in public school – entering an eye-opening world of sex, drugs and social mayhem. “We were overwhelmed by the amount of submissions and interest in our script,” said co- writer/producer Josh Epstein. “Judy Greer leads the way, Russell Peters and Grace Park are hilarious supporting stars, and then we have packed the cast with some of the brightest Page 1 of 3 young stars today. Daniel Doheny is going to be on everyone’s radar real soon. We’re over the moon with the team we’ve assembled.” “It’s been really exciting watching Josh and Kyle develop their craft over the past five years from their shorts to their first feature, Eadweard, with PUBLIC SCHOOLED evolving into what it has become today,” said executive producer Justine Whyte. “We are so very happy that CFC could play a role in PUBLIC SCHOOLED’s development, and even more thrilled that we can help bring this endearing and funny story to the big and small screen! This is a truly gifted key creative team.” PUBLIC SCHOOLED is produced through the CFC Features program. Development at CFC Features is supported by the Government of Ontario, with production support and financing from The Movie Network, a division of Bell Media, and from the CFC. Motion 58 brings the additional support of Telefilm Canada for production financing, and received instrumental support in the script’s development from the Telefilm Canada Feature Comedy Exchange, a CFC marketplace initiative in collaboration with Just For Laughs, National Screen Institute’s Features First program, Independent Filmmaker Project’s (IFP) No Borders program, Corus Entertainment Inc. and Whistler Film Festival’s Feature Project Lab.
