When that moment occurs, students start to think of building their futures here, connecting with employers for internships, building their networks with students from other campuses and investing in our communities. As these students transform to become residents, the city grows economically, in diversity and talent. Over the past year, we’ve seen this happen with our own eyes. Katie Bye, a student at Arcadia University, made her first visit to the Barnes Foundation as a freshman and was transformed. She switched majors to art history after that visit, and when she returned to the Barnes for Campus Philly’s My Philly Summer Party, she came resumé in hand to network her way to a job. Grace Mangigian, a senior at Haverford College, was deciding where to head after graduation. A summer internship in Philadelphia led to a post-graduation job offer, and she decided to launch in Philly: I would get to live and work in a city I love. Having a city that inspires this kind of love is not just a matter of chance. Campus Philly brings together the partners that share our enthusiasm for this fantastic region and seek to welcome our students. Through these partnerships, we create the programs, events and experiences that transform Philadelphia from college town to hometown for so many. We are happy to share some highlights from these programs over the past year and thank the partners that make them possible. Thank you for your continued support of Campus Philly, Jeanne Mell Deborah Diamond, Ph.D. Campus Philly Board Chair President Vice President Marketing Communications Campus Philly University City Science Center Cover: CollegeFest 2016 at Dilworth Park This page: Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park Opposite: First Friday in Old City 2016 ANNUAL REPORT 3 FALL IN LOVE WITH PHILLY “I arrived at City Hall, received a ‘welcome to Philadelphia’ and a wristband good for free admission at 10 museums! CollegeFest is a great way to get to know the city.” Nadia Kreciglowa, University of Pennsylvania, 2018 MEET PHILLY TOUR Campus Philly introduced students to Philadelphia through 102 presentations and orientation and welcome events on campus. INSIDER GUIDE 90,000 magazines for and by college students distributed on campuses, through admissions offices and at Campus Philly events COLLEGEFEST 5,000 students, 10 free museums, 42 exhibitors and free PHLASH transportation for a full-day welcome and exploration of Philadelphia on September 10, 2016, in Dilworth Park 4 CAMPUS PHILLY CollegeFest 2016 at Dilworth Park “A group leader handed me an Insider Guide at orientation. I realized the Guide was going to be my way to figure out what to see in the city and how to get there. I have kept the Insider Guide throughout my college career.” Catherine Fiore, Rutgers-Camden, 2017 2016 ANNUAL REPORT 5 Campus Philly creates the moments when students fall in love with Philly. This is the tipping point when they make the city their own and transform from a student into a resident. Students explore the Wissahickon Valley Park in Germantown. 6 CAMPUS PHILLY “Campus Philly’s Student Leader Network has broadened my Philadelphia horizons, exploring the Germantown neighborhood to see how people shape where they live. These experiences are fortifying my decision to stay in Philadelphia after graduation because I know, somewhere throughout the city or surrounding areas, I will be able to find my niche.” Maurcedes Bey, Philadelphia University, 2018 OPEN ARTS 8,030 student members experience art at 60 venues through free tickets and college nights just for them. STUDENT LEADERS NETWORK 458 students eager to lead on and off campus explore neighborhood development, build leadership skills and form a cross-campus network. INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 339 students from 24 schools attended a full-day leadership conference presented by Campus Philly and Temple University in February 2016. “One reason it’s great to go to college in Philadelphia is the amazing music and art scene. Open Arts has given me the chance to experience that with hundreds of other college students, and for free. It makes you feel that your college experience, the city itself and the city’s art all come together.” Lara Balikci, University of Pennsylvania, 2019 2016 ANNUAL REPORT 7 LAUNCH IN PHILLY “Campus Philly has landed me several interviews. From that, I’ve learned to be more confident. Campus Philly gave me confidence.” Yemima Arbouet, La Salle University, 2016 CAMPUSPHILLY.ORG/CAREERS Campus Philly hosts the best internship and career site for college students and employers. The Food and Drink Report A look back at 2009 and a look forward to the year ahead While the food industry is better equipped than most to resist economic pressures, the industry faced its share of challenges in 2009, mainly due to a change in discretionary spending by consumers. As companies strive to improve their business strategies and goals for 2010 and beyond, food and drink manufacturers and processors first and foremost need to be flexible in their strategies as they seek to regain market share, retain a competitive edge, and keep their brands relevant.
