Overexploitation of fishery resources has led to the capture of alternative species of a lower trophic level, considered previously unprofitable or unfit for human consumption. The southern pufferfish, Sphoeroides nephelus (Goode et Bean, 1882), is a bycatch species of the recreational fishery in the USA and Mexico. Unlike other species of the genus Sphoeroides, there is no background on their reproductive cycle. Therefore, this study aimed to describe several reproductive traits (sex ratio, gonadal development, annual reproductive cycle, and fecundity) of specimens from the northern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. This kind of information might serve as a point of reference for its potential use either in the pharmaceutical industry, aquarium trade, as well as in aquaculture. -

Near, and Jakob Vinther ABSTRACT Dating the tree of life is a core endeavor in evolutionary biology. Rates of evolution are fundamental to nearly every evolutionary model and process. Rates need dates. There is much debate on the most appropriate and reasonable ways in which to date the tree of life, and recent work has highlighted some confusions and complexities that can be avoided. Whether phylogenetic trees are dated after they have been estab- lished, or as part of the process of tree finding, practitioners need to know which cali- brations to use. We emphasize the importance of identifying crown (not stem) fossils, levels of confidence in their attribution to the crown, current chronostratigraphic preci- sion, the primacy of the host geological formation and asymmetric confidence intervals. Here we present calibrations for 88 key nodes across the phylogeny of animals, rang- ing from the root of Metazoa to the last common ancestor of Homo sapiens. Close attention to detail is constantly required: for example, the classic bird-mammal date (base of crown Amniota) has often been given as 310-315 Ma; the 2014 international time scale indicates a minimum age of 318 Ma. In the past 5 years, 430 cases of intoxication and 52 deaths associated with puffer fish have been reported worldwide. President Lundberg plans to move blanket acceptance of all reports included in this book which covers society business from 2008 and 2009. The book includes the ballot information for the 2009 elections (Board of Govenors and Annual Business Meeting). Governors can ask to have items exempted from blanket approval. These exempted items will will be acted upon individually. We will also act individually on items exempted by the Executive Committee. Please remember to bring this booklet with you to the meeting. Zoosystema 39 (4): 501-598. https://doi.org/10.5252/z2017n4a5 ABSTRACT 313 nominal species of monogenean parasites of aquatic vertebrates occurring in Mexico are included in this checklist; in addition, records of 54 undetermined taxa are also listed. All the monogeneans registered are associated with 363 vertebrate host taxa, and distributed in 498 localities pertaining to 29 of the 32 states of the Mexican Republic. The checklist contains updated information on their hosts, habitat, and distributional records. We revise the species list according to current schemes of KEY WORDS classification for the group. The checklist also included the published records in the last 11 years, Platyhelminthes, Mexico, since the latest list was made in 2006. We also included taxon mentioned in thesis and informal distribution, literature. As a result of our review, numerous records presented in the list published in 2006 were Actinopterygii, modified since inaccuracies and incomplete data were identified. Even though the inventory of the Elasmobranchii, Anura, monogenean fauna occurring in Mexican vertebrates is far from complete, the data contained in our Testudines. -

AFC PRESIDENT MESSAGE Welcome to China for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Championship which will showcase the next generation of talent that is emerging from all corners of the Continent. The stars of the future will be on show at the four world- class venues in Changzhou, Jiangyin, Changshu and Kunshan as the AFC delivers on its promise to provide outstanding competitions for the talent of Asia. The AFC is most grateful to the Chinese Football Association, the four host cities and the Local Organising Committees for their hard work in ensuring that this event is a worthy successor to the tournament held two years ago in Qatar. That event was won by Japan after they staged a stunning comeback in the final to defeat Korea Republic and I am sure we will all witness some exciting games and some surprising results during the next 18 days. Congratulations to all Member Associations who have teams here at the AFC U23 Championship and also to those who staged the qualifying tournaments. Your commitment to the AFC competitions is much appreciated. Also, a word of thanks to our match officials. Asia has some of the best refereeing teams in the world and just like the players you will see some of the best young referees from across the Continent in this event. We wish everyone the best of luck and hope that the spectators, both in the stadium and watching on television or engaging through social media, enjoy a glimpse of the future talent of Asia.
