I'd had Blood and Rage sitting in my house for a while before I finally decided to pick it up. Honestly, I thought it was going to be less than interesting. Who cares about the Red Lanterns, anyway? Not me. Sure, they make good side charactersbut they've lost their ability to reason, so it's not like they are going to be having lengthy discussions on the meaning of life. I was wrong. In fact, it turns out that Atrocitus is actually contemplating the meaning of his life On top of that, ther I'd had Blood and Rage sitting in my house for a while before I finally decided to pick it up. On top of that, there's an angry young man on earth who just got his very own red ring. And it seems like he just may be a new kind of Red Lanterns: Blood and Rage Volume 1 Lantern Recommended for GL fans! View all 7 comments. Mar 24, James DeSantis rated it liked it. Story: Atrocitus is at a midlife Rage crisis. He is one of the strongest lanterns out there thanks to his ring of rage but he feels like he's losing it. I mean he only talks to a dead body of the person who killed his entire family and people to get on track. That's normal, right? So when he finally frees the mind of one of his other red lanterns, let's them think for herself, he begins to worry someone On top of that we go around the galaxy to see other people me Story: Atrocitus is at a midlife Rage crisis. On top of that we go around the galaxy to see other people meet their breaking point to turn to rage. Art: Blood. Seriously, anytime a red lantern fights you can bet blood splatter goes on every single panel. You got big sweeping battle scenes with tons of great fights. Green Lantern series also gives huge ass shots of women, so that hasn't changed. Colorful, brutal, and lots of death. This books art hits all those notes. Enjoyment: I actually dug Atrocitus. Sure, he kind of comes off a bit mopy, emo, yet he has the rage within that makes him kind of fun. I also Red Lanterns: Blood and Rage Volume 1 learning more about the rage lanterns and Red Lanterns: Blood and Rage Volume 1 they are who they are. The stories of losing it all to break was pretty cool. Oh yeah and I enjoyed the ending and could lead up to something interesting. What didn't work: Not huge fan of the "enemy" here. Came out of nowhere. I also thought the sweeping ass shots were kind of annoying. Overall, it's fun story. Probably better than I could ever expect from a Red Lantern title. Cast upon a blighted planet, Ysmault, the Red Lanterns fight each other in a mindless torpor while their leader, the monstrous Atrocitus, broods over the corpse of a dead Guardian called Krona who killed his family. But one day Krona disappears and out of desperation Atrocitus throws one of his Red Lanterns, Bleez a vampiric looking babe with skeleton wings and pupil-less eyes into the Blood Ocean to give her intelligence and aid him in finding Krona. Jack has never succumbed to rage, suppressing it for years, but faced with so much tragedy and feeling helpless, his rage is building… Peter Milligan writes a brilliant introduction to this strange group of anti-heroes. Their powers are odd but interesting: instead of the Green Lanterns and their green constructs, the Red Lanterns seem to have a kind of blood vomit that spews from their mouths and burn their victims. Now that Krona, the subject of all his rage, has been killed by those pesky Green Lanterns no less What's a Red Lantern to do once their rage is quenched? I'll tell you what: he starts to talk to Krona's dead body Al Swearengen-style. He's also annoyed at the fact that his Corps are a bunch of mindless, napalm-spewing idiots, so he Atrocitus is having a bit of an existential crisis. He's also annoyed at the fact that his Corps are a bunch of mindless, napalm-spewing idiots, so he decides to throw them in the Blood Ocean to increase their intelligence. I always expected that a Red Lanterns comic book series would be a terrible idea, because I didn't think they would be engaging enough as main characters. I was very wrong because this was actually pretty good! I got more of a sense of who Atrocitus is as a character as he struggles to Red Lanterns: Blood and Rage Volume 1 his little band of unruly bad guys. Slings & Arrows He sees a Red Lantern Ringcrystalized from the blood. It was published on October 29, On YsmaultAtrocitus is in a massive pool of blood, when he hears something like a wardrum beat. He sees a Red Lantern Ringcrystalized from the blood of the Five Inversionswhom he killed to form the pool. Allowing the ring to attach onto his finger, it quickly takes over his heart's functions, and spoils the blood in him, replacing it with liquid rage. He has the feeling something big is going to happen soon, and wants to be able to have a talk before it happens. Hal then recieves a message from John Stewart on his ringinforming him that the Guardians of the Universe have decided to execute Sinestro on Korugarand the two of them are part of the escort. Hal excuses himself, saying he has official Corps business, but he really needs to talk to someone else about this. He talks with her about Sinestro's execution, and that after Carol, Sinestro knows him better than everyone. Though Hal says that he doesn't need justification, Carol says he has it, as Sinestro was the one who put Parallax in Hal. Ash has located the Anti-Monitor's helmet, saying that its trajectory indicates that the Anti-Monitor's corpse is located somewhere in Sector As the Scarred Guardian ends her communication, the other Guardians ask who she is talking to. She says she was meditating, and the other Guardians offer to join her, to help heal her injuries. The Scarred Guardian says that they serve as a reminder of the Guardians past arrogance, Red Lanterns: Blood and Rage Volume 1 that they must be vigilant in their efforts to stop the spread of the Emotional Spectrum from being used by others. The Guardians discuss their impending diplomatic mission to Zamaron and Sinestro's execution. In the SciencellsHal goes to talk with Sinestro. He asks Hal if he believes it is right to execute him. Hal says it's what he deserves, and was his overall plan to get the Red Lanterns: Blood and Rage Volume 1 to use lethal force. • Blackest Night / Brightest Day Jumpchain What Is Death in a World
Blackest Night / Brightest Day Jumpchain What is death in a world like this one? Great heroes and villains alike have tasted the sweet kiss of oblivion, both deserving and not. Yet death has also been defied, and many more have returned to life through circumstance or miracle. Two heroes in particular – Hal Jordan, a Green Lantern of Earth, and Barry Allen, The Flash, both ponder this together as they talk over the gravestone of Bruce Wayne. Both had died and returned to life before. And soon, many more will return as well...but not in a way they or anyone else would expect. Recently, the Green Lantern Corps, a peacekeeping organization created by the self-touted Guardians of the Universe, have been at war with the Sinestro Corps founded by its namesake rogue who fell from grace in the past. As this conflict raged on, other Lantern Corps were discovered or created as all seven colors on the Emotional Spectrum were revealed to the galaxy. But as this conflict and chaos rages on, a prophecy is fulfilled and as the various colors come into battle with each other, a darker force awakens. The Entity of Death, Nekron, acting through the villain Death’s Hand, has prepared to unleash a plague on the entire universe. One that will see the billions of dead across all of creation rise and seek to ravage the living, before extinguishing all life entirely within the Blackest Night. Just as this conversation began, you appear. You are a new or veteran member of one of the existing Lantern Corps...unless you are a Black Lantern, in which you rise from death not long after as the crisis of the Blackest Night begins.

The Green Lanterns, on the other hand, represent the triumph of willpower or reason over emotion and seek to overcome and stifl e these emotional states.2 The confl ict between the various lantern corps, while provid- ing an interesting series of stories, also sets the stage for thinking about one of the most long-standing questions in ethics: What role should emotion play in moral reasoning? 7 CCH001.inddH001.indd 7 33/14/11/14/11 88:42:24:42:24 AAMM 8 JASON SOUTHWORTH Color-Coded Morality With the exception of the Indigo Lanterns (who don’t speak a language that can be translated by a Green Lantern power ring, much less your average comics reader), the representa- tives of the new color corps all make the case that acting out their sections of the emotional spectrum is the only way to achieve justice.

Booster Gold was assigned to prevent this from happening. To do so, he convinced Sinestro to leave Earth, claiming that he was an admirer from the future, and that his yellow Legion of Super-Heroes flight ring was a tribute to Sinestro. When asked what Corps he belongs to, Booster ad- libbed, "The Sinestro Corps", leading Sinestro to twirl his mustache in thought while mumbling, "Of course Of course. Scripted with a high emphasis on character development by novelist Meltzer Identity Crisisthe story has the feeling of a fresh start, even if its climax falls somewhat flat. The main arc is an affecting one, following the efforts of the Red Tornado—who's starting to get annoyed with having died so many times—to get back into his android body, or failing that, a mortal one so that he can be reunited with his beloved Kathy and adopted son. This ties in with scattered skirmishes between a JLA squad and a mob of evil Tornado clones. Also happy to see all the Green Lantern and other Lanterns' stories after the fight against the First Lantern. Can't wait to read more Green Lantern comics!!!! Aug 15, James DeSantis rated it it was amazing. The First lantern. The one who gave emotion to the corps. The one who began it all. The omnipotent being who is now really fucking mad because the dumbass guardians kept his ass locked up. So what does he want? Well to rearrange everything! This is actually a pretty freaking epic crossover. With the first lantern out he begins to dissect each major lantern because he feeds off their emotion. What he does is give you alternate paths in the past to trick you into feeling emotions. He especially fo The First lantern. He especially focuses on Guy and Kyle which makes for the most interesting "What if" storylines. But this title spans between Green lantern, New Guardians, green lantern corps, and red lanterns. And it hits on almost all of them really well. Even the red lantern stuff, which is always the least interesting for me, works decent here. The final issue for each series really hits home. Especially the Green Lantern one and Green lantern corps. Though I do think New Guardians does wonders for Kyle's character development, and then Red lantern is extremely dark Overall, a fine ending to a lot of runs here.
