Dr. Henry Lewis III, is President of Florida Memorial University. He served as Dean and Professor in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Florida A&M University (FAMU) for the last 15 years. Dr. Lewis was Interim President of FAMU. He also served as Dean of the Texas Southern University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for four years. A native of Tallahassee, Florida, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from FAMU and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University. He completed post-doctoral training in the Institute for Education Management at Harvard University, the National Institutes of Health, the Congres- sional Operations Institute, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Millennium Presidential Leadership Program and Duke University Directors Program. Dr. Lewis is past president of the Minority Health Professions Founda- tion. He is also past president of the Foundation's sister agency, the Association of Minority Health Professions Schools. Under his leadership, these two organiza- tions—representing all of the nations historically black medical, dental, pharmaceutical, and veterinary medical programs—have secured over $100 million in support of programs, research and activities that improve the quality of educa- tion and the availability of health care to minority and under-served communities. He has served as president of the National Pharmaceutical Association represent- ing more than 10,000 minority pharmacists in the United States. He is the former Chairman of the Board of the Florida Education Fund, the nation's largest Henry L. Lewis III, PharmD producer of African-American PhD’s. President An accomplished biomedical researcher with a focus on sickle cell anemia, Dr. Lewis has been the principal investigator or project director on research/training grants totaling over $95 million. He has served on numerous governmental review committees. The Secretary of HHS appointed him to currently serve on the National Center for Research Resources National Advisory Board. He has increased the endowment of the FAMU College of Pharmacy from $1 million to over $22 million under his leadership. Dr. Lewis has testified before over a dozen Congressional subcommittees on health, research, and education funding issues. In 1986, he made history by becoming the first African American elected to the Leon County Board of County Commissioners in Tallahassee, Florida. While a Commissioner, he spearheaded the creation of the County's Minority Business Enterprise program, developed the branch health clinic network throughout the county, successfully advocated legislative funding for a $2.5 million clinic building, and located the new $20 million county public library downtown adjacent to the C.K. Steele bus terminal in the district he represented, making it accessible to all citizens of the city. He has published over 25 scientific papers, book chapters and abstracts. He has received many awards and honors throughout his career. Among them are the FAMUAN of the Century, Outstanding Educator Award, Dr. Martin Luther King Leadership Award, Outstanding Tallahassean Award, Pharmacist of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Administrator of the Year and the National Faculty Researcher of the Year. Additionally, Eckerd Drugs (now CVS) funded the Henry Lewis III, Endowed Chair in his name, and the Richardson-Lewis Health Center in Tallahassee is named in his honor by the County Commission. Earlier this year, the National Pharmaceutical Association bestowed its highest recognition, the Wendell T. Hill Award upon him. He was re-elected to serve a second term on the Board of Directors of the Capital City Bank Group. Leadership Team

Makola M. Abdullah, PhD, is a noted and well-traveled research and education expert dedi- cated to cultivating the next generation of African-American scholars. Abdullah’s commitment is demon- strated by the fact that he earned his doctorate degree at the ripe young age of 24. This feat made him the youngest African-American to ever earn a doctorate degree in engineering. He defines greatness as “the ability to dream and think bigger.” As FMU’s provost and vice-president for Academic Affairs, Abdullah hopes to inspire students to surpass his accomplishments. Dr. Abdullah developed a 20-year track record of excellence after serving in various academic capacities including professor, associate vice-president for sponsored research and dean of the College of Engineering Sciences, Technology and Agriculture at Florida A& M University. These experiences shape his “all students can learn” education philosophy. He wants to recruit and retain the best and brightest faculty members to cultivate an environment that helps transform students from good to great. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Abdullah received his bachelor’s degree from Howard University. He earned his master’s and doctorate degrees from Northwestern University. If you were to peruse Harold R. Clarke, Jr.’s, PhD, assortment of military merit awards you would soon discover that he earned a Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Star for Valor among others honors. After 26 years of distinguished service, Dr. Clarke retired from the U.S. Army at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He transitioned into the academy, first as a professor of military science at South Carolina State University, and then as a senior academic executive at Florida Memorial University.

Dr. Clarke brings the same military-inspired focus and precision to his role at Florida Memorial University. In 1993, Clarke joined FMU as vice-president of student affairs. In 2008, he was appointed to his current position as vice president of administration. In this role, he provides executive oversight of the university’s athletic programs, facilities, campus safety and emergency management among other duties. Clarke’s accomplishments include spearheading FMU’s Master Facilities Plan, chairing FMU’s strategic plan committee and coordinating the design-build for the university’s new living and learning student housing complex.

The California-native earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology from Califor- nia State University; a master’s degree in Personnel Management from Central Michigan University; a Harold R. Clarke, Jr. Ph.D. master’s of education degree from South Carolina State University; and a doctorate in Higher Education Vice President for Administration Administration from Barry University.

Danneal L. Jones is a proven senior academic executive committed to producing premiere student programming and engagement. For more than 16 years, Ms. Jones has produced models of service and leadership in enrollment management and student affairs at several colleges in Southeast Louisiana. The New Orleans-native joined Florida Memorial University as the Dean of Students during the summer of 2010 and was promoted to Interim Vice President of Student Affairs in March 2011. In this role, Ms. Jones is responsible for producing a high quality educational and life-enriching experience for FMU students. She oversees the areas of Enrollment Management, Campus Ministry, Student Publications, Student Activities, Judicial Affairs, Student Governance & Organizations, Residential Life, Intramural Sports and Recreation, Student Health Services, TRIO Programs (Upward Bound and Student Support Services), the Career Development Center and the Student Development Center which administers counseling services. Ms. Jones has authored and presented nationally on issues of student success, data driven strategic planning, leadership and disaster recovery. She is a graduate of Fisk University, earning a bache- lor’s degree in English. She also received her master’s degree in Counseling from Xavier University of Danneal L. Jones, M.S. Louisiana. She is pursuing a doctorate in Higher Education Administration at George Washington Vice President for Student Affairs University.

Mary A. O’Banner, PhD, is a senior academic executive committed to ensuring Florida Memorial University (FMU) realizes its mission of educating tomorrow’s leaders today. Dr. O’Banner serves in the unprecedented position of the university’s first Chief of Staff. In this role, she manages the university’s governmental relations, legal affairs and serves as liaison between the university’s administra- tion and the board of trustees. Dr. O’Banner’s professional career in higher education spans almost four decades and includes affiliations with Virginia Union University, Tougaloo College and Middle Tennessee State University, where she held a variety of teaching and administrative positions. Dr. O’Banner joined FMU in 1989. While at FMU, she served as Chairperson for the General College Division, Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs, Special Assistant to the President and Professor of Education. O’Banner also served as Executive Director for the Florida Memorial University Foundation, Inc. In this capacity she was instrumental in securing a $198,000 planning grant for the univer- sity’s St. Augustine Property Development Project. In June 2011, she was promoted to her current position.

Mary A. O’Banner, PhD Dr. O’Banner, a native Jackson, Mississippian, earned her bachelor’s, master’s and education specialist’s degrees from Jackson State University. She earned her doctorate degree from Southern Chief of Staff Illinois University-Carbondale. Later, as a Bush-Hewlett scholar, she earned a certificate from Harvard University School of Education.

If you were to walk into Florida Memorial University’s (FMU) Office of the Business and Fiscal Affairs, you would soon discover several stacks of audits, reports and budgets. This assortment of calculations and numerations is not trivial. For Tony R. Valentine, FMU’s Vice President for Business and Fiscal Affairs, these data represent the financial lifeblood of ’s only historically black university. In this role, Mr. Valentine provides executive leadership for the areas of Budget/Cash Management, Controller, Human Resources, Purchasing/Procurement, Information Management and Technology, and Auxiliary Services. Valentine’s fiscal stewardship helped FMU produce its first surplus after three consecutive years of operating deficits. He also helped the university secure $28 million through the HBCU Capital Loan Program for FMU’s new Living and Learning residential center.

Mr. Valentine has several years of experience in Accounting, Finance, and Fiscal Affairs. His experience and professional background includes higher education at the community college and university levels. Adriene B. Wright, PhD, does not just add value, she multiplies it—exponentially. As Florida Memorial University’s (FMU) Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Dr. Wright is charged with two main goals: helping South Florida’s only historically black university attract spon- sors and donors; and generating value for those sponsors. Dr. Wright has the vital combination of talent, expertise and experience to exceed expecta- tions. Wright’s distinguished career includes stints at Fluor Corporation, Cummins Engine Company, the Electric Power Research Institute and a gubernatorial-appointment as South Carolina’s State Ad- vocate for Small and Minority Businesses. As a congressional fellow in U.S. Senator Bill Frist’s of- fice, she contributed to national public policy on science and technology issues and participated in the European Union International Summit on Foreign Trade. After a stellar career in the private and public sectors, Dr. Wright took her talents to the academy, as Florida A&M University’s (FAMU) development director. Where her efforts lead FAMU into becoming the first and only Tom Joyner School to reach and surpass the million dollar mark. Dr. Wright joined FMU in 2011. Wright earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Florida A&M University; a master’s degree in Theology from Trinity Theological Adriene B. Wright, PhD. Vice President for Institutional Seminary; a certificate from the International Academy of Apologetics, Evangelism and Human Advancement Rights in Strasbourg, France and a doctorate degree in Theology.
