▪ In the late 1940s, Wally Parks began advocating for safe and legal activities for hot rodders using his editorial column in Hot Rod magazine

▪ NHRA was established by Wally Parks in 1951 with support from hot rodders, car clubs, law enforcement and community leaders

▪ From its inception NHRA’s mission has been “Dedicated to Safety”

▪ NHRA encouraged early efforts to find a suitable place for rodders to race legally, including those of Bud Coons and Chief Parker of Pomona ▪ 1949, Fair recognized the need for motorsports venues and began to sponsor events

▪ 1951, Pomona Valley Timing Association held regularly scheduled events at the new dragstrip successfully curtailing the street racing problem
