August 1973 in Neubrandenburg 2006 Referentin/Referent: Prof. Peter Schlobinski Koreferentin/Koreferent: Prof. Jannis Androutsopoulos Tag der Promotion: 19.07.2006 Übersicht: Basierend auf der systematischen textuellen und diskursiven Analyse zahlreicher amerikanischer und deutscher Rapsongs, ist das Ziel dieser Untersuchung zu zeigen, wie sprachliche Merkmale wie semantische Felder, narrative Strukturen und Formen der Konversation in Raptexten verschiedener communities of practice eingesetzt werden. Selbst- und Fremdkategorisierungen, Erzählinhalt und -perspektive, Sprechakte wie boasting und dissing oder der Gebrauch von Vergleichen und Metaphern sind wesentliche Elemente der Performanz von Identitäten im Hiphop. Eng verbunden mit seinen kulturellen Ursprüngen sind die Arten, in denen die sozialen Erfahrungen und Ansichten weiblicher und männlicher Rapper kommuniziert werden. Die Analyse von Eigenschaften und Verwendungen des AAVE in amerikanischen und zu einem gewissen Grad in deutschen Raptexten bietet Einblicke in die sprachlichen Flüsse innerhalb von Raps globalisierter Kultur. Darüberhinaus illustriert die Benutzung von Merkmalen lokaler Dialekte und Migrantensprachen die verschiedenen Art und Weisen, in denen Rapkünstler ihre Position innerhalb unterschiedlicher communities of practice artikulieren. Während einerseits die kritische Wahrnehmung für die Zentralität von Sprache innerhalb der Politik von Identitätsformation und -performanz geschärft wird, ist die Untersuchung stereotyper Repräsentationen wie auch des transformativen Potentials der Sprachbenutzung in Raptexten ein fruchtbares Unterfangen in der Spracherziehung. Es erlaubt tiefere Einsichten in die Art des Gebrauchs sprachlicher Merkmale zur Kommunikation von Ideen innerhalb kultureller, ethnischer und Genderrahmen. Die Studie verdeutlicht Wege der Anpassung und Rekontextualisierung einer überwiegend medial importierten Kultur durch die Analyse sprachlicher und diskursiver Merkmale von Raptexten innerhalb verschiedener kultureller Settings. Auf diese Weise wird der Grad der Assimilation ‘linguistischen Kapitals’ von lokalen und globalen Ressourcen evident. abstract: Based on the systematic textual and discursive analysis of numerous American and German rap songs the aim of this study is to show how linguistic features such as semantic fields, narrative structures and forms of conversation function within rap music lyrics of different communities of practice. Categorizations of the self and the other, narrative content and perspective, speech acts like boasting and dissing or the use of similes and metaphors are crucial elements of performing identities in hip-hop. Closely linked with its cultural origins are the ways of communicating the social experiences and views of female and male rappers. The analysis of the use of features of AAVE in American and to some extend in German rap lyrics offers insights into the linguistic flows within rap’s globalized culture. Moreover, the use of features of local dialects and migrant languages illustrates the differing ways in which hip-hop artists articulate their position within different communities of practice. While gaining more critical awareness of the centrality of language within the politics of identity formation and performance, the examination of stereotypical representations as well as of the transformative potential of language use in rap lyrics is a fruitful undertaking in language education. It allows to gain more insight into ways of using linguistic features for the communication of ideas within cultural, ethnic and gender frameworks. The study amplifies ways of appropriation and recontextualization of a predominantly media-imported culture by analyzing linguistic and discursive features of rap lyrics within different cultural settings. By doing so, the degree of assimilating ‘linguistic capital’ from local and global resources becomes evident. First and foremost, the internet is a medium that opens up a new space and stage in which hip hop can be performed. This stage is no longer local, but global, which represents both opportunity and challenge. On the one hand, each hip hop artist must assert themselves against countless compet- itors from all over the world; on the other hand, their breakthrough online, if it suc- ceeds, can be monumental in comparison to an analog breakthrough, which is usually confined to a limited area. Therefore, for hip hop artists it is increasingly important to attract attention – as only those who get the attention succeed in this new medium (Prior 2018, Jenkins et al. 2013). The internet’s central influence on hip hop is the inten- sification of the battle for attention – which results in hip hop artists trying new ap- proaches and strategies to gain that attention. One of them is producing their content with an eye to making it as meme-able as possible and capitalizing on meme dynamics on the internet. In this study, I approach memes as a concept, following the definition of Dawkins (2006) who originally defined the concept of memes in his work The Selfish Gene. Memes are small units of information that are usually very simple and catchy (ges- tures, styles, melodies, or phrases). They are transmitted from person to person by imitation or adaption, replicate and spread very quickly, and contribute to the dissem- ination and formation of common behaviors and cultures (Dawkins 2006).

    Ergebnisbericht Detailanalyse der BPjM-Indizierungspraxis zu Medien aus dem Bereich „Battle- und Gangster-Rap“ von Dr. Daniel Hajok Hintergrund Mit Werkvertrag vom 23. November 2017 erfolgte die Beauftragung zur Durchführung der Detailanalyse, mit der die BPjM-Indizierungspraxis zu Medien aus dem Bereich „Battle- und Gangster-Rap“ im Zeitraum von Anfang 2008 bis Ende 2017 nachgezeichnet werden soll. Der hiermit vorgelegte Ergebnisbericht umfasst auftragsgemäß die Ergebnisse zu den Teilen 1 und 2 der Detailanalyse und erfolgt aufgrund des in Rücksprache mit der Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien (BPjM) geänderten Zeitplanes für den Verwendungszweck nunmehr zum heutigen Zeitpunkt. Analyse Teil 1: Identifizierung und Quantifizierung der relevanten Prüfobjekte Methodische Vorbemerkung: In einem ersten Schritt wurden aus allen Tonträgern und in Telemedien erschienenen Videoclips und Musikdownloads, über die im Zeitraum von Anfang 2008 bis Ende 2017 im 12er- oder 3er-Gremium entschieden wurde, insgesamt 89 Objekte identifiziert, die in einer weiten Auslegung dem Bereich des Battle- oder Gangster-Rap zuzuordnen sind. 54 dieser Objekte sind stilistisch klar dem Bereich des Battle- oder Gangster- Rap zuzuordnen, weitere 35 Objekte sind künstlerische Ausdrucksformen, in denen Elemente des Battle- und Gangster-Raps mit Elementen anderer Stilrichtungen des Raps (z.B. Horrorcore, Crunk, Miami Bass) vermischen. Von den 89 identifizierten Objekten, über die in den letzten zehn Jahren in den BPjM-Gremien entschieden wurde, sind 66 Tonträger (v.a. CDs) und 23 Telemedien (v.a. frei zugängliche Videoclips). In einem zweiten Schritt wurden die identifizierten Objekte hinsichtlich der Prüfverfahren, der Prüfergebnisse und der von den indizierten Objekten verwirklichten Tatbestände und Fallgruppen einer Jugendgefährdung, mit denen konkrete Inhalte (Darstellungen von Gewalt, Sexualität, Diskriminierung etc.) abgestellt wird, quantifiziert.
