Two will take you more or less in a straight line, and one is circular; they all finish in St Peter’s Square in the centre of town. Later in the booklet, the ‘Stepping Out’ section highlights places of interest on the outskirts of Ruthin; these excursions are at opposite ends of the town and it may be best, depending on how fit you are, to take your car, if you have one, to the starting point of each walk. © Crown copyright. We trace our history to the days of our namesake, St Asaph and his mentor, St Kentigern who it’s believed built a monastery in St Asaph in AD 560. Many of the churches across the Diocese were founded by the earliest saints in Wales who witnessed to Christian faith in Wales and have flourished through centuries of war, upheaval, reformation and reorganisation. Today, the Diocese of St Asaph carries forward that same Mission to share God’s love to all in 21th Century north east and mid Wales.     Denbighshire The underlying geology and soils of Denbighshire creates a great variety of land uses with arable land historically being concentrated in the lowlands along the boundary with Caernarvonshire, along the coastal strip and surrounding the major towns and cities. Small scale arable cultivation was a feature of the mixed farming in the area as shown by the 1930s land use survey which is considered a low point in arable cultivation. Growing crops will probably have increased during the World Wars in the 20th Century as there was a greater need to be more self-reliant, and the advent of herbicides and inorganic th fertilisers in the mid 20 Century has led to an increase in crop production in some areas as weed control has improved. However, there is an estimated 68% contraction of cultivated land and land under short-term rotation between the 1930s and 1990s. Arable cultivation is still continued around Abergele, Denbigh, Ruthin, between Chirk and Wrexham and north-east of Wrexham. The decline in arable cultivation could be due to a number of reasons including the general change in farming businesses towards more livestock farming and pastoral land; the increase in herbicides and fertiliser costs which may lie beyond the means of small-scale farms; and the volatility of cereal prices may also have led to a decline in arable cropping with high yields only breaking even in some years. There is a substantial concentration of arable land in the 1990s survey with larger blocks of cultivation being undertaken. This may be the result of agricultural intensification and a greater use of herbicides and fertilisers.

The other 12 townships that were in Denbighshire were: ALLTGYMBYD, CREIGIOG UWCH-GLAN, BANHADLEN, CYFNANT, BUDDUGRE'R ABAD, ERRYRYS, BUDDUGRE'R IARLL, GELLIGYNAN, CHWILEIRIOG, GWAUNYFFYNNON, CREIGIOG IS-GLAN, TRE'R LLAN. In the period 1676 - 1743, the Vicars were: 1634 Ellis OWEN, A.M. (deprived, but restored 1660) 1680 Peter PRICE 1683 Griffith DAVIES, A.B. 1710 Hugh PENNANT 1731 Simon EVANS, M.A Original Parish Registers (1676 - 1943) have been deposited in Ruthin Record Office by the vicar and churchwardens, and in return they were given facsimile copies. They loaned their copies of some of the earlier registers to Clwyd Family History Society for transcribing and indexing. This collection consists of material received from a Wrexham solicitor, relating to his personal and business affairs, and to some of his clients. The bulk of S.P.Bevon's personal papers consist of correspondence about properties he owned in Wrexham, and reports and prospectuses of various mining and plantation concerns abroad, in which he owned shares. There is no autobiographical material. The rest of the collection has been sorted into sequence by parish, with separate sections for court cases and election papers, as there is no large quantity of material relating to an individual client. Perhaps the most interesting item is a photograph showing the range of products made by Ewloe Potteries, Buckley, in the 1920s. Other interesting subjects include Ffos-y-go Colliery, Gwersyllt, 1901-4; the appointment of a receiver for the New Llangollen Slate and Slab Company. 1898-1903; prospectus of Broughton Hall Iron Company, c.1890; complaints about conditions at Croesnewydd Military Hospital, Wrexham, 1917; and a dispute over building costs of a new church at Brynteg, 1894-5. There are also some files of papers relating to S.P.Bevon's clients, 1920-40, in the Wrexham Library collection.
