SINCE 1933 SIDECAR A COLLABORATION BETWEEN MOORE & GILES AND BARMAN JIM MEEHAN PRODUCTION NO. MOORE & GILES Founded in 1933 in Lynchburg, Virginia, Moore & Giles is dedicated to designing and developing the most innovative and luxurious natural leathers for the high- end hospitality, aviation and residential interior design industries. In January 2007, we introduced a collection of luxury leather bags and accessories as an additional avenue to showcase the inherent beauty and timeless appeal of our natural leathers. In 2013, we proudly began offering our handcrafted, limited run furniture to designers and exclusive showrooms around the country. Both bags and furniture are extensions of our passion for leather. R. SACKETT WOOD JIM MEEHAN PRESIDENT BARTENDER THOMAS BRENNAN BRANDON ULLAND DESIGNER CABINET MAKER THE SIDECAR The Sidecar, a collaboration between Moore & Giles and barman Jim Meehan, weds world class bar design, timeless aesthetics and traditional woodcraft to produce a unique piece of handmade working furniture. We believe the Sidecar is an extension of creativity and craft from both More & Giles and Meehan. Each Sidecar is individually made at the Moore & Giles headquarters in Forest, Virginia. Due to the nature of the materials used and the handcrafted element, each Sidecar is beautifully unique. NATIVE HARDWOOD VIRGINIA BLACK WALNUT & BIRCH Born in the hardwood forests of the Blue Ridge Mountains, both Black Walnut and Birch have offered cabinet makers of the Commonwealth a foundation of strength and beauty for centuries. Virginia Black Walnut in particular is highly- prized for it rich, dark color and has been identified historically in traditional American furniture, flooring and even rifle stocks. VEGETABLE TANNED LEATHER VIRGINIA NATURAL & VIRGINIA TOBACCO Our Moore & Giles Virginia leathers are a testament to the very finest, small batch, vegetable tanned leathers in the world. Since the tanning process of these leathers is all done by hand in Tuscany they can only be produced in very small quantities. These unique leathers will continue to evolve and patina with time while offering a natural resilience to wear. PRECISION CUT ALUMINUM INSPIRED BY FINE CUTLERY The inspiration for the Sidecar’s rigid frame comes directly from the handle of chef’s knife - metal between wood. The lightweight aluminum builds a strong backbone for the weight of bottles, bags and glass wear that creates commercial- grade strength. The Sidecar isn’t just beautiful, it was built to serve. GERMAN ENGINEERED CASTERS PRECISION-TURNED SOLID BRASS Typically found on concert grand pianos, the casters are made of solid brass and each has five sealed ball bearings inside. The casters are rimmed with a protective non-marking, permanently vulcanized elastic coating for sensitive floors. These wheels precisely swivel and brake to allow for pinpoint control. HAND CRAFTED HARDWARE SOLID SATIN FINISHED BRASS Made in small runs by the craftsmen at Al Bar Wilmette on Chicago’s north side, the intricate hexagonal brass handles are mounted flush with the door to preserve a user’s shins. In addition the heavy brass push handles are wrapped in thick vegetable tanned leather to provide a substantial point of control from which to steer the cart. JIM MEEHAN @Mixography Jim Meehan, author of the The PDT Cocktail Book, entered the hospitality business in 1995 while studying at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He worked his way through school as a bartender, then moved to New York City in 2002 to hone his palate and develop his craft in venues such as Five Points, Pace, Gramercy Tavern and the Pegu Club. In 2007 Meehan opened PDT, a hidden cocktail lounge attached to a legendary hot dog stand in the East Village. In 2009, he and the bar were recognized with Spirited Awards for American Bartender of the Year and World’s Best Cocktail Bar at Tales of the Cocktail. The bar has received the first ever Outstanding Bar Program Award from the James Beard Foundation in 2012. Jim’s cocktails are served at American Express Centurion airport lounges at LaGuardia in New York City, DFW in Dallas, San Francisco International, and McCarran in Las Vegas. In addition to his work behind bars, Meehan edited eight editions of Food & Wine Magazine’s annual cocktail book and currently serves as Drinks Editor for TastingTable.com. His work’s been featured in magazines, newspapers, books, aps, television, the radio, and a feature length movie. He and his family reside in Portland, Oregon, where he operates his consulting firm Mixography Inc. SIDECAR HOUSE CARE AND CLEANING Prior to packing, an all-natural custom finishing oil is applied and allowed to mature for a COCKTAIL period of 72 hours. This treatment brings out the natural characteristics of the grain and inherent textures in the wood. A layer of hand-mixed wax is then applied to each piece 2 oz. Remy Martin VSOP Cognac and buffed to a low sheen to enhance its color and provide additional protection. .75 oz Cointreau .75 oz Lemon juice We recommend using a warm damp cloth to clean and dust our furniture. Please avoid using aerosol waxes and cleaners. For deeper cleaning and conditioning of the wood, we .25 oz Simple Syrup suggest a product called Antiquax. It is trusted by art conservators as reasonable polish for furniture. With use and wear, the leather on our furniture will develop a rich and beautiful patina. Our No. 33 all natural leather conditioner and restorer will help keep the leather looking its best. We suggest keeping our furniture away from air ducts in the home which can warp and damage the wood. We also recommend protecting it from extreme exposure to UV light as this will affect the color of both the leather and wood. We hope that you enjoy your purchase and that it becomes a treasured heirloom in your home for years to come. MOOREANDGILES.COM.
