DUAS FROM THE QURAN, SUNNAH, SALAF AND HEART By Shaykh Mufti Kamaluddin Ahmed ؕ َو ِا َذا َس َا َلـ َك ِعبَا ِد ۡى َع ِّن ۡى فَ ِانِّ ۡى قَ ِرۡي ب ُا ِجۡي ُب َد ۡع َوةَ ال َّدا ِع ِا َذا َد َع ا ِن فَۡليَ ۡستَ ِجۡيبُ ۡوا ِل ۡى َوۡليُ ۡؤ ِمنُ ۡوا ِب ۡى َل َع َّل ُُ ۡۡ يَۡر ُش ُد ۡو َن And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). (Al-Baqarah:186) ؕ ُا ۡد ُع ۡوا َربَّك ُۡۡ تَ َض ُّر ًعا َّو ُخ ۡفيَ ًة ِان َّ ٗه لَا يُ ِح ُّب اۡل ُم ۡعتَ ِدۡي َن Invoke your Lord with humility and in secret. He likes not the aggressors. (Al-Araf:55) ؕ َوقَا َل َربُّك ُ ُۡ ا ۡد ُع ۡوِن ۤۡۡى َا ۡستَ ِج ۡب َلـك ُۡۡ ِا َّن ا َّل ِذۡي َن يَ ۡستَ ۡك ِب ُر ۡو َن َع ۡن ِعبَا َدِت ۡى َسيَ ۡد ُخلُ ۡو َن َج َُ َّن َۡ َدا ِخ ِرۡي َن And your Lord said: "Invoke Me, [i.e. believe in My Oneness (Islâmic Monotheism)] (and ask Me for anything) I will respond to your (invocation). Verily! Those who scorn My worship [i.e. do not invoke Me, and do not believe in My Oneness, (Islâmic Monotheism)] they will surely enter Hell in humiliation!" (Al-Momin:60) قُ ِل ا ۡد ُعوا ال ّٰل َه َا ِو ا ۡد ُعوا ال َّر ۡح ٰم َن ؕ َا ي ا َّما تَ ۡد ُع ۡوا فَلَ ُه ا ۡلاَ ۡس َمآ ُء اۡل ُح ۡس ٰنى ۚ َولَا تَ ۡج َُۡر ِب َصلَاِت َك َولَا ت ُ ََخا ِف ۡۡ ِب َُا َو اۡبتَ ِِ بَۡي َن ٰذ ِل َك َس ِبۡيلًا Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Invoke Allâh or invoke the Most Gracious (Allâh), by whatever name you invoke Him (it is the same), for to Him belong the Best Names. And offer your Salât (prayer) neither aloud nor in a low voice, but follow a way between. (Al-Isra:110) َ َع ْن انَ ِس بْ ِن َماِل ٍك، َع ِن ال َّن ِب ِّي صلى الله عليه وسل ۡ قَا َل " ال ُّد َعا ُء ُم ُّخ ا ْل ِعبَا َد ِة " Supplication is the marrow of worship. (Tirmidhi, Dua, 2) َ َع ْن اِبي ُه َريْ َرةَ، رضى الله عنه َع ِن ال َّن ِب ِّ ي صلى الله عليه وسل ۡ َ قَا َل " َل ْي َس َش ْي ء ا ْك َر َم َعلَى ال َّل ِه ت َ َعا َلى ِم َن ال ُّد َعا ِء " Nothing is dearer to God than Supplication. (Tirmidhi, Dua, 1) One of three things never fails to come to a man from supplication: either a sin is forgiven, or something good comes hurriedly to him or something good is stored u for him. (Tirmidhi, Dua, 5) َ قَا َل قَا َل ال َّن ِب ُّي صلى الله عليه وسل ۡ " يَ ُقو ُل ال َّل ُه تَ َعا َلى انَا ِع ْن َد َظ ِّن َع ْب ِدي ِبي، َو َانَا َم َع ُه ِا َذا َذكَ َرِني، فَ ِ ا ْن َذكَ َرِني ِفي نَ ْف ِس ِه َذ كَ ْرتُ ُه ِفي نَ ْف ِسي، َو ِا ْ ن َذكَ َرِني ِفي َمل ٍا َذكَ ْرتُ ُه ِفي َمل ٍا َخ ْي ٍر ِم ْن ُُ ْۡ، َو ِا ْن تَ َق َّر َب ِا َل َّى ِب ِش ْب ٍر تَ َق َّربْ ُۡ ِا َل ْي ِه ِذ َرا ًعا، َو ِا ْن تَ َق َّر َب َ َ ِا َل َّى ِذ َرا ًعا تَ َق َّربْ ُۡ ِا َل ْي ِه بَا ًعا، َو ِا ْن ات َاِني ي َ ْم ِشي اتَ ْيتُ ُه َه ْر َو َل ًة " said, "Allah says: 'I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to (ﷺ) The Prophet do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.' " (Bukhari, Tawhid, 50) … َو َر ُج ل َذكَ َر ال َّل َه َخاِليًا فَ َفا َض ْۡ َع ْي نَا ُ ….and a person who remembers Allah in seclusion and his eyes are then flooded with tears." (Bukhari, Adhan, 36) َانَّ ُه قَا َل َا ْش َُ ُد َعلَى َاِبي ُه َريْ َرةَ َو َاِب ي َس ِعي ٍد ا ْل َُخ ْد ِر ِّي َانَّ ُُ َما َش ُِ َدا َعلَى َ ال َّن ِب ِّي صلى الله عليه وسل ۡ انَّ ُه قَا َل " لاَ يَ ْق ُع ُد قَ ْو م يَ ْذكُ ُرو َن ال َّل َه َع َّز َو َج َّل ِا لاَّ َح َّف ْت ُ ُ ُۡ ا ْل َملاَِئكَ ُة َو َغ ِش يَ ْت ُ ُ ُۡ ال َّر ْ ح َم ُة َونَ َز َل ْۡ َعل َ ْي ُِ ُۡ ال َّس ِكينَ ُة َو َذكَ َر ُه ُۡ ال َّل ُه ِفي َم ْن ِع ْن َد ُ " The people do not sit but they are surrounded by angels and covered by Mercy, and there descends upon them tranquility as they remember Allah, and Allah makes a mention of them to those who are near Him. (Muslim, Dhikr, 38) َربَّنَۤۡا َا ۡف ِر ۡغ َعلَۡينَا َصۡب ًرا َّوتَ َو َّف نَا ُم ۡس ِل ِمۡي َن Our Lord! Pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims. (Al-Araf:126) َر ِّب قَ ۡد ٰاتَۡيتَ ِن ۡى ِم َن اۡل ُمۡل ِك َو َع َّل ۡم تَ ِن ۡى ِم ۡن تَۡا ِوۡي ِل ا ۡلاَ َحا ِدۡي ِث ۚ فَا ِط َر ال َّس ٰم ٰو ِت َوا ۡلاَۡر ِض َاۡن َۡ َوِل ّٖى ِفى ال ُّدۡنيَا َوا ۡل ٰا ِخ َر ِة ۚ تَ َو َّف ِن ۡى ُم ۡس ِل ًما َّو َاۡل ِح ۡق ِن ۡى ِبال ّٰص ِل ِحۡي َن "My Lord! You have indeed bestowed on me of the sovereignty, and taught me something of the interpretation of dreams - the (Only) Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are my Walî (Protector, Helper, Supporter, Guardian, God, Lord.) in this world and in the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim (the one submitting to Your Will), and join me with the righteous." (Al-Yousuf:101) َوا ۡختَا َر ُم ۡو ٰسى قَ ۡو َم ٗه َسۡب ِعۡي َن َر ُجلًا ِّل ِمۡي َقاِتنَا ۚ فَلَ َّمۤۡا َا َخ َذۡت ُ ُۡ ال َّر ۡج َف ُة قَا َل َر ِّب َل ۡو ِشۡئ َۡ ُ َا ۡهلَـ ۡكتَُ ۡ م ۡن قَۡب ُل و ِاياى ؕ َا تُ ُۡ ِلكُن َا ِبما فَع َل الس َفُآء ِم َّنا ۚ ِا ۡن ِهى ِا لَّا ِف ۡتنَـتُ َك ُ ۡ ِّ َ َّ َ َ َ ُّ َ ُ َ ؕ تُ ِض ُّل ِب َُا َم ۡن تَ َشآ ُء َوتَ ُۡ ِد ۡى َم ۡن تَ َشا ٓ ُء ؕ َاۡن َۡ َوِل ُّينَا فَا ۡغ ِفۡر َلـنَا َوا ۡر َح ۡمنَا َو َاۡن َۡ َخۡي ُر اۡل َغا ِف ِرۡي َن And Mûsa (Moses) chose out of his people seventy (of the best) men for Our appointed time and place of meeting, and when they were seized with a violent earthquake, he said: "O my Lord, if it had been Your Will, You could have destroyed them and me before; would You destroy us for the deeds of the foolish ones among us? It is only Your Trial by which You lead astray whom You will, and keep guided whom You will. You are our Walî (Protector), so forgive us and have Mercy on us, for You are the Best of those who forgive. (Al-Araf:155-6) قَ ۡد كَانَ ۡۡ َلـك ُۡۡ ُا ۡس َوة َح َسنَ ة ِف ۤۡۡى ِاۡب ٰر ِهۡي َۡ َوا َّل ِذۡي َن َم َع ٗه ۚ ِا ۡذ قَا ُل ۡوا ِل َق ۡو ِم ُِ ۡۡ ِانَّا بُ َر ٰٓء ُؤا ِم ۡن ك ُۡۡ َو ِم َّما تَ ۡعبُ ُد ۡو َن ِم ۡن ُد ۡو ِن ال ّٰل ِه كَ َفۡرنَا ِبك ُۡۡ َوبَ َدا بَۡينَنَا َوبَۡي نَك ُ ُۡ اۡل َع َدا َوةُ َو اۡلبَ ۡغ َضا ٓ ُء َابَ ًدا َح ّٰتى تُ ۡؤ ِمنُ ۡوا ِبال ّٰل ِه َو ۡح َد ُۤۡٗ ِالَّا قَ ۡو َل ِاۡب ٰر ِهۡي َۡ ِل اَِب ۡي ِه لَاَ ۡستَ ۡغ ِف َر َّن َلـ َك َو َمۤۡا َا ۡم ِل ُك َلـ َك ِم َن ال ّٰل ِه ِم ۡن ؕ َش ۡى ٍء َربَّنَا َعلَۡي َك تَ َوكَّۡلنَا َو ِا َلۡي َك َانَـۡب نَا َو ِا َلۡي َك اۡل َم ِصۡي ُر Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrâhim (Abraham) and those with him, when they said to their people: "Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allâh, we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you, hostility and hatred for ever, until you believe in Allâh Alone," except the saying of Ibrâhim (Abraham) to his father: "Verily, I will ask forgiveness (from Allâh) for you, but I have no power to do anything for you before Allâh[] ." Our Lord! In You (Alone) we put our trust, and to You (Alone) we turn in repentance, and to You (Alone) is (our) final Return (Al-Mumtahina:4) فَ َقا ُل ۡوا َعلَى ال ّٰل ِه تَ َوكَّۡلنَا ۚ َربَّنَا لَا تَ ۡج َعۡل ن َا ِف ۡتنَ ًة ِّلـۡل َق ۡو ِم ال ّٰظ ِل ِمۡي َ ن They said: "In Allâh we put our trust.
