It was incorporated in the year 1975 as a public sector company to accelerate power development in the country as a wholly owned company of the Government of India. In pursuit to achieve its target to eliminate energy and peaking shortages in the country, NTPC Ltd proposes expansion of Super Thermal Power Plant from 2000 MW to 2500 MW at Shakti Nagar, Sonebhadra District, Uttar Pradesh. 1.1 Site and Surroundings The plant site is located in Shakti Nagar, Sonebhadra district of Uttar Pradesh, having latitude and longitude of plant center 24°06' 04" N and 82° 42' E respectively. The Singrauli STPS is approachable from Renukut-Singrauli road through an approach road already constructed during Stage-I of this Station. Nearest railway station is Renukut located at a distance of about 60 kms. The site is approachable via Waidhan (MP) and is about 8 kms from Waidhan.
