Hello again, Wow July and August did not disappoint. We were Mini Kars, Merri Makers, Oriental Band, Provost all so very busy with the 147th Imperial Session in Shooting Teams or The A.S.S. (Akdar Sharp Houston, Texas, Herders Reunion, the Akdar Shooters) Team. And yes they did not get a trophy Shrine Circus and CSSA competitions. but did make history as Akdars’ first shooting team to participate at CSSA! We pulled into OKC on Wednesday the 18th of August. The hotel Home 2 Suites was ready for us and provided a great room for Hospitality that we shared with Bedouin Shrine. Oriental Guide Glen Haydel and Lady Lurene did a great job setting up and running the Hospitality this year. The themed nights were fun and everyone seemed to have a great time. The unit competitions, started on Thursday and went through Friday. Akdar units in attendance were

It was great to see everyone at 2021 Circus Appreciation, Sept. 10th, Akdar the Circus!! I am so thankful we were able to have it and Akdar Shrine Nobility Ball, Sept. 18th, doing the shows in July wasn’t so bad after all. We had a Tulsa very special guest, Sydney is a 2021-2022 patient 2022 Circus Kick-Off, Sept. 25th, Akdar ambassador from Oklahoma City. She has scoliosis and Akdar Children’s Day at the Park & Hayride, received the vertebral back tethering procedure at the Oct. 23rd, Akdar Park Philadelphia Hospital. I want to send a giant THANK YOU Akdar Shrine Halloween Party, Oct. 30th, to all those who helped make the circus a success!! We Akdar couldn’t have done it without all of you!!! If you see a member of the Mini Kars, Oriental Band Angie Hess, or Merri Makers, congratulate them on bringing awards back Potentate’s Lady home to Akdar!! In case you missed it on our Facebook #FUNIN2021 page, Akdar’s Provost Guard made history by entering our very first shooting team into the C.S.S.A competition. They held their own and I can’t wait to see how they progress!! Get out your 1970’s butterfly collars and your bell bottoms!! Come get your groove on or just hang out with friends at the Akdar Shrine’s Nobility Ball!! It will be held September 17th & 18th @ Southern Hills Marriott!!! There will be a hospitality room Friday night and Saturday and the ball on Saturday night. Shrine News 4 September/October, 2021 Chaplain’s Message It’s a strange old game, you learn it slow. It’s one step forward then it’s back you go. You’re standing on the throttle, you’re standing on the brake, In the groove ‘til you make a mistake.
Sometimes you’re the windshield, sometimes you’re the bug. Sometimes it all comes together baby, sometimes you’re a fool in love. Sometimes you’re the Louisville Slugger, sometimes you’re the ball. Sometimes it all comes together baby, sometimes you’re going lose it all. (The Bug – Mark Knopfler / Dire Straits)
Life is a changing mystery, at least mine has been lately. I had life all worked out and going great then Bang! I’m the Bug. All my plans to control my life just flew apart in an instant. I’ve had to admit that I never really had control of my life. I’ve been vividly reminded that I’m the creature, not the Creator.
Life is beyond my control I know but I won’t stop trying to be in control. I’m a flawed human being that thinks I deserve to be in charge.
I can do one thing right and that is to focus on my relationship with my Shrine Family and our Shrine Kids. This is where I get to be the Louisville Slugger. The more I do for others the more I hit the ball out of the park. When I make life about others and not about me being in charge or demanding things work my way, “I’m in the Groove!”
Akdar is having a windshield year. When I’m in a bug day I’ll still be a fool in love with my Shrine Family and our great cause. Life’s a game you can’t win unless others win too. Let’s play to win. May God Bless!

People are excited to be able to spend time safely outdoors and parades have been a great way to do that! We want to thank everybody for all of the work they have put into attending the parades and encourage you all to continue to participate in the parades that are upcoming this fall!
In addition to the parades, Akdar Shrine also held our annual Shrine Circus! As you know, every year the scooters are tasked with manning the doors. We're the first face the public sees when they walk into the circus. It is a lot of fun to greet people and welcome them to the event. I personally would like to thank everybody who answered the email that the Potentate asked me to send out and came to help out! In addition, our Director Willard Warren wanted to send a special note of appreciation to Widow's Sons members Noble James Durbin and Donnie January for stepping up to help out at the last minute as well.
If anybody has a motorcycle and would love to join our ranks, please feel free to let us know. We are a great club and we'd love for you to be a part of it! Our meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of every month at the Village Inn Restaurant on South Harvard and 28th St. Stay safe and have fun! -Adrian Shahbazian Akdar Scooters Secretary
KAR BUFFS The Circus was a success! What a great time! The Kar Buffs are donating $200 to the Popcorn Wagon and at our next meeting we’ll be discussing a donation to purchase a zero turn mower for the Shrine Center. The Kar Buffs meet the fourth Thursday of each month at the IHOP, 31st and Memorial. Come join us!
