VALE ROYAL INTRODUCTION 2 This document details Youth arts activity and organisations in West Cheshire and Chester is presented in this document on a district-by-district basis. This project is part of a wider pan Cheshire audit of youth arts including; a separate document also for East Cheshire, a sub-regional and county wide audit in Cheshire as well as a report analysis recommendations for youth arts for the future. This also precedes the new structure of Cheshire’s two county unitary authorities following LGR into East and West Cheshire and Chester, which will come into being in April 2009 An audit of this kind will never be fully accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date. Some data will be out-of-date or incorrect as soon as it’s printed or written, and we apologise for any errors or omissions. The youth arts audit aims to produce a snapshot of the activity that takes place in West Cheshire provided by the many arts, culture and youth organisations based in the county in the spring and summer of 2008– we hope it is a fair and balanced picture, giving a reasonable impression of the scale and scope of youth arts activities, organisations and opportunities – but it is not entirely exhaustive and does not claim to be.

  • Lct 5: Undulating Enclosed Farmland
LCT 5: UNDULATING ENCLOSED FARMLAND General Description This character type is defined by undulating topography and the associated small to medium scale enclosure into which it is divided. Key characteristics are the generally cohesive and un-fragmented historic landscape in the south of the borough, small woodlands, ponds and streams, nucleated rural villages and scattered farmsteads. Land use is mainly pasture. Away from main roads, railways and settlement the landscape is generally quiet and rural. Views within this type very much depend upon location and the nature of the immediate topography. There is a range of monuments from Bronze Age barrows to post medieval canal locks. The character type is found across a large part of the Cheshire West and Chester borough; to the east between Northwich and the Sandstone Ridge and in the south of the borough. Visual Character The location of this landscape type is reflected in the prevailing views which extend to adjacent character areas, either out over the low-lying plain or up towards the often dominant Sandstone Ridge. Roads typically follow the rolling topography, offering extensive views from high vantage points out over the immediate field pattern and extending to the high ground in the far distance such as the Pennines in the east. Long distance views are sometimes affected by large scale industrial works in adjacent areas. LCT 5: Undulating Enclosed Farmland 138 From low ground the landscape appears smaller in scale due to the increase in enclosure and the contained views where skylines are typically formed by hedgerow trees, woodland and farmsteads, with occasional electricity pylons and church spires.

  • Early Methodism in and Around Chester —
EARLY METHODISM IN AND AROUND CHESTER — Among the many ancient cities in England which interest the traveller, and delight the antiquary, few, if any, can surpass Chester. Its walls, its bridges, its ruined priory, its many churches, its old houses, its almost unique " rows," all arrest and repay attention. The cathedral, though not one of the largest or most magnificent, recalls many names which deserve to be remembered. The name of Matthew Henry sheds lustre on the city in which he spent fifteen years of his fruitful ministry ; and a monument has been most properly erected to his honour in one of the public thoroughfares. Methodists, too, equally with Churchmen and Dissenters, have reason to regard Chester with interest, and associate with it some of the most blessed names in their briefer history. By John Wesley made the head of a Circuit which reached from Warrington to Shrewsbury, it has the unique distinction of being the only Circuit which John Fletcher was ever appointed to superintend, with his curate and two other preachers to assist him. Probably no other Circuit in the Connexion has produced four preachers who have filled the chair of the Conference. But from Chester came Richard Reece, and John Gaulter, and the late Rev. John Bowers ; and a still greater orator than either, if not the most effective of all who have been raised up among us, Samuel Bradburn. (George Osbom, D.D. ; Mag., April, i8yo.) Rev. Samuel Bradburn. Rev. Richard Reece. Rev. John Bovvers. Rev. John Gaulter. earlp DKtDoaistn In ana around CiK$t£T* 1749-1812.

WEAVERHAM HIGH SCHOOL NEWSLETTER April 2019 Magical Music Festival effective citizens. The endeavours of each form group never ceases The final week of the spring term culminated in three consecutive to amaze and their efforts make staff feel very proud. In the spring and joyous occasions as our annual Music Festival took place. Any term, one Year 7 form group surpassed expectations as they raised occasion that enables primary and secondary pupils to join together over £1000 for St Luke’s Hospice through a number of creative tasks in expressing their love and talent for music and song is magical. including a sponsored row, cake baking etc. I have no doubt that the Audiences were entertained by pupils from local primary schools; hardest task wasn’t the 20,000 metre row, but more likely the 24 Cuddington; Little Leigh; Weaverham Primary Academy; hours without technology! I am sure not many young people would Comberbach; Crowton; Norley; Sandiway; Antrobus, Great be so brave or so dedicated! Well done to 7DR Budworth; Weaverham Forest and Whitley, all of whom performed with energy and confidence, a truly talented bunch! I was Year 8s dance studio update extremely proud of our Weaverham High School performers as they In the last newsletter I informed you of the plan a group of Year 8 shared their incredible talents; whether that be mastery of their pupils have to transform the small hall into a dance studio. The instrument, breath-taking solos or stunning harmonies. I reminded team have been busy fund raising since then and have made our young people that without realising it, they would have inspired significant progress towards their target of £2000.

Vale Royal School Sport Partnership Relay SUMMER 2018 I N TH I S ISSUE: Smoking Hot 1 Smoking Hot Events for Super Sunny School Sport Week Events for Super Sunny School National School Sport Week was not only a success in terms of the weather but also the number of par- Sport Week ticipants! With a focus on athlete engagement rather than competitive outcomes it made for a real feel of Competition 2 development throughout the week There were some firsts this year such as an event for reception and update year 1, with the balance festival, which saw nearly 200 children take part in activities to promote early Winsford Cluster 2 cycling skills. We also ran the Adventure! Run! Challenge! for teams of children from Y3-6,. Schools took Update part in team based challenges along a mile long course to test their problem solving and teamwork skills. On a baking hot day there was plenty of water to cool them down too! We also saw a first in terms of a new venue this year as Vale Royal Abbey Golf Club hosted our Tri-Golf competition. In the beautiful backdrop of the Abbey teams competed in yet more sweltering conditions and Charles Darwin won through to the County Final in both age groups. They went on to win the Coun- ty event at Y5/6, finishing in third place at Y3/4. The Russett also won Gold in the inclusive competition. Perhaps teams were ultimately inspired by the amazing venue! As ever it was an extremely hectic week but a most rewarding one as we saw huge numbers of children taking part in more than 20 events throughout the five day period!
