Our Semi-Automatic Cargo Release Unit (SACRU) is designed for aircraft lifting up to 6,000lbs (2,722 Kg) and is extensively used by the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. The SACRU 1 Mk 2 has EMC protection and has been selected and approved by Agusta Westland for EH101 Navy Merlin MK1. The design is of simple construction involving no delicate mechanisms requiring fine adjustment. Certified by the CAA, variants of this cargo hook are also available as an FAA and Transport Canada approved bolt-on replacement hook for the Bell 204 through 412 series helicopters. The SACRU 1 is now available with load measurement to enable pilots to know the weight of the cargo and therefore monitor the airframe. Agusta-Westland approved for EH101 Merlin The SACRU 1 Mk 2 has been selected by Agusta-Westland for installation on EH101 Navy Merlin. Releases 2.5 Times Rated Load Capable of releasing 2.5 times rated load both mechanically and electrically, the SACRU 1 has an extra margin of safety, allowing the hook to be released in emergency overload situations. Now Available with Load Measurement The SACRU 1 is now available with Load Measurement which enables the pilot to avoid overload situations. Few changes in naval warfare have been as all embracing as the role played by the aircraft carrier, which is, without doubt, the most impressive, and at the same time the most controversial, manifestation of sea power. From 1948 until 1983 the aircraft carrier formed a significant component of the Australian Defence Force and the place of an aircraft carrier in defence strategy and the force structure seemed relatively secure. Although cost, especially in comparison to, and in competition with, other major defence projects, was probably the major issue in the demise of the aircraft carrier and an organic fixed-wing naval air capability in the Australian Defence Force, cost alone can obscure the ftindamental reordering of Australia's defence posture and strategic thinking, which significantly contributed to the decision not to replace HMAS Melbourne.

The entries in this guide are arranged by company name and include a history of each company, particularly its formation and that of subsidiaries together with mergers and take-overs. Brief details of the records, the relevant accession numbers and any limitations on access are given. Where the records have been listed this is indicated. A glossary of terms specific to the subject area is also included, together with an index. Background to the Collection The Museum's archive department began collecting records in the late 1960s and targeted a number of firms. Although many of the deposits were arranged through formal approaches by the Museum to companies, a significant number were offered by company staff: a significant example is the Supermarine archive (AC 70/4) including some 50,000 drawings, which would have been burnt had an employee not contacted the Museum. The collections seem to offer a bias towards certain types of record, notably drawings and production records, rather than financial records and board minutes.
