Sam Kerr Goes Back to Back

Soccer’s golden girl Sam Kerr has joined illustrious company by becoming only the third dual winner this century of The West Australian RAC Sports Star award.

The Matilda’s and Glory superstar now shares the record with nine-time world champion cyclist Cam Myer and world and Olympic champion pole vaulter Steve Hooker.

Kerr, nominated for the Ballon d’Or crown as the world’s best last year, claimed the award at the prestigious RAC WA Sports Star Awards night at Optus Stadium on February 7 before 550 guests.

Winners of The West Australian-RAC Sport Star represent a roll call of names whose deeds have inspired athletes over the decades. Famous names such as Herb Elliott, Shirley Strickland, Dennis Lillee, Ric Charlesworth, Rechelle Hawkes, Barry Cable, Lauren Mitchell, and Ryan Bayley to name just a few.

The West Australian Sports Federation was again honoured to coordinate the awards night at Optus Stadium, along with naming rights partner the RAC and awards partners The West Australian, Hyundai, KPMG, Channel Seven Perth, Roobix, Community TAB, 6PR and RAC Insurance.

Sailor Zac Littlewood was named the Hyundai Junior Sport Star winner, ahead of athletes Rhiannon Clarke and Sophie White, canoeist Alexandria Choate, diver Nikita Hains, and swimmer Ben Popham

2018 AFL premiers triumphed in both the Channel Seven Perth Team of the Year, and the KPMG Coach of the Year where took the honours from West Coast Fever’s Stacey Marinkovich and Hockey ’s Colin Batch.
