I have enjoyed my year in office, as usual there have been pluses and minuses during the year. It is often the case that things don’t go smoothly on local Councils but with the help and backing of an excellent group of Councillors and the hard work and dedica- tion of Staff, Nuthall Parish Council is a great Council of which to be a member. I am delighted that Cllr Mick Spencer agreed to be Vice Chairman of the Council; he and his wife Cllr Rita Spencer work hard as Councillors, always willing to help when needed. We had a meeting recently with residents who were most affected by HS2 coming through Nuthall. We have requested that an alter- native route be looked at and if that is not possible then deep tun- nels should be cut underground. We completed our Neighbourhood Plan, and we hope that will help to stop any plans to build on our greenbelt land. During my year in office I am pleased to report that the Council has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Commitment to Workplace Health and Safety. We had a very enjoyable and interesting event given by Hanson’s Auctioneers who valued residents’ heirlooms. Charles Hanson came (you have probably seen him on the Antiques Roadshow on TV) and he talked about some of the items which people had brought in for valuation. The money raised from this event went to Cancer Research. We continue to run a successful Luncheon Club at the Temple Centre enjoyed by residents. Thank you to our Clerk and Staff for making this possible. We now have a bookcase in the entrance where you can borrow books and if you have books that you no longer want then we would be grateful if you would bring them along. The Temple Centre bookings continue to increase and there are regular hirers in on every day of the week and we have to turn down most booking requests of an evening. We are working to have good relationships with the local youth community especially with Kimberley Young Peoples’ Centre and we are venturing on an exciting new Youth Club in the summer. Cllr Linda Carter will oversee this alongside our Clerk. We have made improvements to the pavilion at the Basil Russell Recreation Ground and also the fencing and gates at Watnall Road on the park. Football, cricket and bowls are the main sports played on the ground. We have changed the way we service the grounds as a result of staffing changes and appointed two new park keepers that have settled into the community on the park well. We are hoping to provide a level of basic, good value refreshments on the park after visitors have suggested this. This is the idea of Cllr Linda Carter and she will be monitoring to see how well this is supported. In 2018/19 we have budgeted for the following: Watnall Road Park Path £4,000 New Farm Lane Road £20,500 Adult Exercise Equipment £12,000 Temple Centre DDA £25,000 We have almost finished paying off loans for past improvements to Council buildings and we have managed to keep the precept at a zero increase as we have for many years giving good value for money and still maintaining and expanding our services Outgoing Chairman—Jill Owen Police return to Nuthall Following the recent Consultation after the shock closure of the Hub at Nuthall and Kimberley we are pleased to announce that PCSO Neil Reddish will be once again able to use the Temple Centre for meeting with members of the public and working when he is tasked in the area. He gave the good news to the Monday Munch Club who were all delighted to hear that, in addition to these changes the Response teams were back in Eastwood and Kimberley Town Council would be making available their Hub (for appointments only) which will be re-opened as soon as possible. Radio changes are also assisting communications between County and City officers. We have a new Inspector, Simon Riley who is committed to Neighbourhood Policing and I hope that you will all welcome him to his new “patch”. We are lucky that we have the Temple Centre centrally placed in Nuthall and are able to offer Neil and the Police the full use of the building and even parking for his Police Bike! If you need to meet with the Police and cannot travel to Eastwood then please ask them to meet at the Temple Centre instead. You can also drop off any non-urgent letters (via the Council Clerk) if you wish to. We would like to thank all of you that took the time to respond to the survey and encourage everyone to make use of this facility now that it is back.
