Shepard Jr. became the first American to travel into space in 1961, he was awarded the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Distinguished Service Medal by President John F. Kennedy. Blenko Glass, a family-owned company since 1893, is located in Milton, West Virginia. It is known for the time-honored craft of hand-blown glass. Exquisite color, skilled craftsmen, and the use of imaginative designs have made Blenko famous. Each piece is made by hand, and no two are the same. This elegant spring-green vase has a fanned-out top and rests on a cobalt-colored base. The original Blenko seal is visible on the lip of the vase, which stands approximately 12 inches high.

Three items are included in this lot of Boston baseball memo- rabilia. The first is a red brick that was acquired from Gate E at Fenway Park during renovations in 2004. The brick is signed by Boston Red Sox superstar David “Big Papi” Ortiz and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The second item is a Rawlings pro model bat signed by Carl Yastrzemski, who played his entire 23-year baseball career with the Boston Red Sox. A certificate of authenticity accompanies this item as well. Last is a photograph depicting Yastrzemski presenting a t-shirt commemorating Yaz’s 3,000th hit to President Carter. 22 CHINESE FOLKLORE ART PRINTS

You’ll receive a beautiful softcover hand-stitched bound book containing 67 original drawings depicting the city of Weifang of the Shandong province. The artist Yang Luoshu is a 19th-generation woodblock printer, and his mastery is depicted in these intricate and colorful woodblock prints. The prints depict traditional Chinese folklore and images from China’s four great classical novels, “Dream of the Red Chamber,” “Romance of the Three Kingdoms,” “Water Margin,” and “Journey to the West,” and the story of the legendary Yang family. This expansive scroll titled “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” depicts ordinary life in Kaifeng around the time of the annual Qingming Festival. The original scroll is renowned in China and currently hangs in The Palace Museum in Beijing. The Qingming Festival is a popular Chinese event that has occurred for thousands of years, always held 15 days after the spring equinox and marked by lively celebrations to honor ancestors. This replication is 12 inches high and 20 feet long, nearly the size of the original scroll. The scroll was a gift to the Carters in December 2012 from the daughter of former Chinese Premier Li Peng. Pilgrim Glass Company was founded in 1949 in Huntington, West Virginia, and closed on April 1, 2002. The company became well known for its crackle glass and cranberry glass pieces. It also produced beautiful and collectible small novelty glass animal figurines, including this crystal elephant. The transparent 5-inch-tall elephant is shown with its feet together, ears back, and trunk raised. It was given to President and Mrs. Carter in the early 1980s.

Two of Thailand’s great treasures are depicted in this polychrome silk artwork with synthetic embroidery and applique, mounted in a contemporary gold-finished wood frame with a red fabric border. It contains an image of Suphannahong, the highest-ranking royal barge in the Royal Barge Procession. It is used by the king alone and only to celebrate significant state events. Wat Arun, a Buddhist temple sometimes referred to as Temple of Dawn, is also shown. Wat Arun is one of the most stunning temples in Bangkok and was named for Ariuna, the Hindu goddess of the dawn. “Sheikh Lotfallah Mosque” was taken in Esfahan, Iran, and depicts rays of sunshine filtering through the Sheikh Lotfallah Mosque, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a masterpiece of Iranian architecture. The tiles of the dome appear to change color and shape as the filtered light is reflected off the mosque’s spectacular interior.

“Pink Mosque” is a photograph from Shiraz, Iran, which shows the stained glass at the Nasir al-Mulk Mosque, which was designed by architects to catch the morning sun and cast its light on the ornate Persian carpets.

“Jameh Mosque” was taken in Esfahan, Iran, and shows the mihrab, or prayer niche, at the Jameh Mosque. This mosque features exquisite multicolored tiles and mosaics. Built during the Umayyad dynasty, it is one of the oldest, grandest mosques in Iran and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
