The aS trap Of Western Anatolia And The Greeks Abstract This dissertation explores the extent to which Persian policies in the western satrapies originated from the provincial capitals in the Anatolian periphery rather than from the royal centers in the Persian heartland in the fifth ec ntury BC. I begin by establishing that the Persian administrative apparatus was a product of a grand reform initiated by Darius I, which was aimed at producing a more uniform and centralized administrative infrastructure. In the following chapter I show that the provincial administration was embedded with chancellors, scribes, secretaries and military personnel of royal status and that the satrapies were periodically inspected by the Persian King or his loyal agents, which allowed to central authorities to monitory the provinces. In chapter three I delineate the extent of satrapal authority, responsibility and resources, and conclude that the satraps were supplied with considerable resources which enabled to fulfill the duties of their office. After the power dynamic between the Great Persian King and his provincial governors and the nature of the office of satrap has been analyzed, I begin a diachronic scrutiny of Greco-Persian interactions in the fifth century BC.

    International Journal of Progressive Education, Volume 16 Number 6, 2020 © 2020 INASED Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace: Turkish Academics’ Self-efficacy Beliefs in their Spoken English Adem Yılmaz i Kastamonu University Pınar Ayyıldız ii Ankara Science University Hasan Şerif Baltacı iii Başkent University Abstract Academics are known as individuals designing and conducting scientific research and they are to hold problem-solving skills, use scientific methods, carry out research, and publish at a global level. That said, they may encounter problems while performing the actions mentioned above due to a lack of foreign language proficiency, which interferes with sharing their knowledge with the others in the international arena. Taking that into consideration, this study aims to scrutinize the self-efficacy beliefs of Turkish academics regarding their oral communication in English. For this purpose, the data were collected through e-mails, and a total of 352 academics working in the departments of educational sciences participated in the study. Qualitative (document analysis) and quantitative research (survey) methods were used together in the study. The scale "A Self-efficacy Instrument for Academics’ Oral Communication in a Foreign Language" developed by Özer, Çakır & Uzun (2019), was utilized in the quantitative data collection phase. The findings were subjected to descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that the self-efficacy scores of academics with respect to their oral communication in English showed no significant difference in terms of their department, academic title, academic experience, and age variable. It also turned out that there is a significant difference between self-efficacy belief scores and experience abroad, current language exam scores, and involvement in academic events abroad.

We will spend the morning walking its marble streets, visit the magnificent Terrace Houses, view the theatre where the riot of Acts 19 took place; after lunch we will visit the Temple Istanbul of Diana or Artemis – one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, St. John’s Church, and the Selçuk Archaeological Museum. These sites will give us a deeper historical, Biblical and prophetic importance of Ephesus. Dinner and overnight in Kusadasi. (B,D) May 26 Sun Miletus – Aphrodisias - Hierapolis - Pamukkale Drive south to visit Miletus (Acts 20:15-17, Tim. 4:20). See the Theater where Paul spoke to Ephesian elders. Visit the new Miletus Museum. Drive to Geyre to visit the archaeological site of Aphrodisias. In the afternoon, visit Hierapolis mentioned in Col. 4:13. Philip the apostle ministered and was martyred here. A large theatre, Temple of Apollo and the largest and best preserved necropolis (cemetery) in all of Turkey. Tonight we will enjoy the hot mineral baths at our hotel.

This article examines the three alternatives proposed by scholars. It explores the geographical and historical evidence for each route, looking especially at the extensive road system that existed in Pamphylia, Pisidia, and south Galatia in the first century. Bible atlases routinely depict one route and the reasons for this choice are discussed. Based on a review of the evidence, a fresh hypothesis for the route of the first journey is suggested. Introduction The routes that the apostle Paul took on his journeys across Asia Minor still remain in dispute. A case in point is the route of Paul’s first journey from Perga (Πέργη) to Pisidian Antioch. Scholars have suggested three possible routes with variations for this journey. Two of these routes are routinely depicted in Bible atlases, often with little awareness of the ancient road network or the topo- graphy of the area. On a popular level, the recent opening of the St Paul Trail in southern Turkey has also stirred up interest in the route of Paul’s first journey. Although the St Paul Trail does not follow the ancient routes exactly, Kate Clow’s experience in preparing the new path has provided fresh insights into the region’s history and topography.

The aim of this study is to investigatethe ability to produce biofilm of Candidaspp. isolated from blood cultures. Methods: From five university hospitals, 85 patients with Candida BSIs and their first Candida blood isolates were included in the study, in one year period. Patient's data were extracted from hospital records including demographics, comorbidities,invasive procedures, surgery, antibiotic and antifungal usage, hospital length of stay, and death within the 30 days after candidemia. Determination of biofilm formation modified by Toledo-Arana et.all. Organisms were grown for 24 h at 35°C on sabouraud dexrose agar (SDA). A loop of yeast colony were inoculated sabouraud dexrose broth (SDB) supplemented with 8% glucose. Strains were grown overnight in SDB at 35°C, the culture was diluted 1:40 in SDB–8% glucose,and 200 µl of this cell suspension was used to inoculate sterile 96-well polystyrene microtiter plates.
