Martin J. Golden had the privilege of serving his neighbors in the City Council (1998-2002) and New York State Senate (2003-2018). His distinguished career as a Police Officer provided him with the knowledge and experience to make our streets safer and improve the quality of life for all. Marty Golden is also a Veteran, having served with Support Company, 1st Battalion, 106th Infantry in the Army National Guard.

During his 16 years in Albany, Marty Golden established himself as one of the most influential members of the legislature, authoring hundreds of laws most notably in the areas of public safety, tax cuts, economic development, and senior citizen issues. He worked with a diverse group of parents, educators, clergy and school choice advocates to secure a $330 child tax credit for public, private and parochial school students, and his diligent efforts secured $11.2 billion in capital funding to improve New York City Public Schools including a new high school in Sunset Park and many other classrooms improvements to ensure that our students receive a sound basic education. He was one of the first to warn about the growing opioid epidemic that grips people in all walks of life throughout the state.

In the Senate, Marty Golden served in a number of key leadership roles, including Chair of the Committees on Aging and Civil Service; Chair of the Senate Majority Task Force on Critical Choices; Chair of the Republican Conference Steering Committee, and as the Senate’s Representative to the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) Capital Program Review Board. Marty Golden has always supported our active duty and reserve military at Fort Hamilton. He secured funding for ’s Memorial Day Parade and the Twilight Tattoo at the US Army Garrison Fort Hamilton.

Yet, what distinguishes Marty Golden's career in public service is his commitment to his constituents and ability to obtain funding for important programs including health care, education, transportation, law enforcement and senior citizen programs. Over the years, his district and Albany offices handled thousands of constituent matters. The summer concerts, Halloween Walks, Christmas Tree lightings and so many other events were mounted by Senator Golden and his staff. Marty Golden understood that there was more to being a lawmaker than making laws.

From 1998 through 2002, Marty Golden represented the 43rd Councilman District in the . In the days immediately after 9/11, Councilman Golden's office coordinated the shipment of more than 200 truckloads of food, clothing, and materials to the volunteers working at "Ground Zero" and helped to establish the first Community Emergency Response Team (CERT 1 NYC) in New York State. Whether City Hall or the State Capital, Marty Golden worked to insure that our neighborhood remained a great place to live, work and raise a family. Since leaving the State Senate, Golden has continued to serve, working in fundraising and development for Catholic Charities.

The oldest of eight children born to Irish immigrants, Marty Golden attended St. Patrick's and Our Lady of Angels Grammar Schools, New York School of Printing, and John Jay College. He is a graduate of St. John’s University. Marty and his wife, Colleen, have two children, Michael, who has followed in his fathers footsteps and is now a member of the New York City Police Department and P.J., who is currently attending college.
