We currently have 2 cycle shelters where bikes can be left in a safe and secure environment. If you would like your son/daughter to cycle to school, there are certain conditions we would like you to be aware of: • Students should be competent cyclists and obey the Highway Code. • Cycles should be in good, roadworthy condition. • Cyclists must dismount at school gates and walk whilst on the premises. • Cycle shelters are locked during the school day – a key can be obtained from student services should a student arrive late or need to leave early. • Helmets must be worn if cycling to and from school. (We have a small store for helmets on a first come, first served basis). If your son/daughter intends to cycle to school, please complete the slip at the bottom of this letter and return to student services. Please return this form on induction day on ???? June 2020 TRAVELLING TO SCHOOL Sandringham is based in the Jersey Farm / Marshalswick area to the north of St Albans city centre. The vast majority of our students live within 1-2km of the school gate and we strongly encourage all of our students to walk. This not only has environmental and health benefits but reduces congestion and is considerate of our neighbouring residents. Other transportation options are as follows: School Bus There is a dedicated education service, the E901 & E902, which provides f ree home to school transport (funded by the local authority) to children in the Wheathampstead area, who are eligible to receive it. Free transport is granted when Sandringham is the nearest suitable school that your child could be allocated a place at, where your child lives more than 3 miles from the school. Please note that if there was a nearer school that your child could have been allocated a place at, regardless of whether or not you applied to that school, you will not be eligible for free home to school transport to Sandringham. More information is available on the Hertfordshire County Council website at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/schooltransport or from the Admissions and Transport Team at HCC and you should direct any queries about home to school transport to them . Public bus The bus map for St Albans is attached. Follow the link to access the Intalink website for bus timetables and routes https://www.intalink.org.uk Hertfordshire County Council promote the SaverCard scheme that provides half price bus travel for students aged 11-18. More information and how to apply can be found on their website, www.hertsdirect.org/savercard Cycling We have two secure bike storage areas that are locked during the school day and provide plenty of space for students to ride bicycles to school. We ask that students cycling to Sandringham observe the highway code, do not cycle on pavements and wear a cycle helmet on their way to school, dismounting at the school gates before wheeling their cycle to the storage areas. Cycle lanes run along The Ridgeway in both directions. There is a separate area for staff/visitors cycle storage. Train The nearest station to the school is St Albans City station at a distance of 2.1 miles, served by Thameslink. St Albans Abbey station is located 2.6 miles from the school. Driving We discourage students and parents from driving to school. Whilst there are car parking facilities on-site for staff and visitors, there is no parking for parents or students. Gates are locked from 8.15am to 8.30am and 3pm to 3:10pm in order for students on foot to arrive and leave the campus safely. Please do not enter the school site to drop off or collect students. Please do not park illegally on the hatched markings outside the school, the bus s top or the zig-zag markings at the Puffin crossing outside the main school gate. Note that The Ridgeway has parking restrictions at both the start and end of the school day. This is to allow our students to use

    The Alban Circle – a country walk around St Albans Peter Osborne Introduction This 16 km (10 mile) walk encircles St Albans. The route passes through woods, fields, sports grounds, parks and along the banks of the River Ver. There are views of the Abbey, Roman remains and other historic features of the city. There are several options for starting points with parking, and pubs or cafés for lunch. Footpath numbers are stated where they appear on the green signposts. This walk is ideally suited to public transport. St Albans City Station is only about 1 km from points 10 and 11. St Albans Abbey Station is close to point 12. Radial bus routes from either the City Station or the centre of town give access at several points and offer escape routes if the full circuit is too much (details below). Cross the High Street and walk north 250 metres. Turn R up Church End and into St Leonard’s churchyard. R of the church, take FP22 between houses. Follow tarmac path W and slightly S between houses and greens for 400m to the junction of Langley Grove and Woodcock Hill . Turn L and follow Woodcock Hill E for 200m to the edge of the village. Take FP 31 along the high grass bank on the RHS of the road up towards the radio mast .

Matter 7 – The Broad Locations for Development – Specific Matters (Policy S6 (i) to (xi) Main Issue Whether the detailed policy for each broad location for development is justified, effective and consistent with national policy. East Hemel Hempstead (South) S6 (iii) 1. Question 1 Is the site suitable for housing and are there any specific constraints or requirements associated with it, or the need for mitigation measures? 1.1 Yes, as demonstrated in the Councils strategic site evaluations work, the site is considered suitable for housing. Potential significant constraints, requirements and mitigations were directly considered in the Draft Strategic Site Selection Evaluation Outcomes methodology as set out Planning Policy Committee March 2018. The evaluation uses the criteria below, based on the approach in PPC reports mentioned above (and as similarly set out in the Call for sites and Local Plan regulation 18 consultation background materials). Stage 1 1. Green Belt Review evaluation will be undertaken on the basis of a judgement of impact on (i.e. ‘damage’ to) Green Belt purposes (taking account of the purposes defined in and considered in the relevant parcel assessment in the GBR). Sites are rated as ‘higher impact’, ‘medium impact’ or ‘lower impact’ (set out as Red Amber Green (RAG)). It is important to remember that the independent Green Belt Review set out that “All strategic parcels in the Green Belt, at least in part, clearly perform a key role”. The assessment is a comparative one in the context of understanding relative impacts on the Green Belt.

Two new benches have been purchased to replace those previously broken and removed by the Princess Diana Memorial Tree. The new ones are in the same style as the original ones, only the material is black recycled plastic. The Committee expressed its thanks to the Parish Council office team for undertaking installation of the benches themselves, thus saving the costs of outsourcing this task. Graffiti found on the Welcome Board at the Chiltern Road entrance and a memorial bench. Following efforts from the Office staff the Welcome Board is now largely clean.
