    Clergy Sexual Abuse: Annotated Bibliography of Conceptual and Practical Resources. Preface The phenomenon of sexual abuse as committed by persons in fiduciary relationships is widespread among helping professions and is international in scope. This bibliography is oriented to several specific contexts in which that phenomenon occurs. The first context is the religious community, specifically Christian churches, and particularly in the U.S. This is the context of occurrence that I best know and understand. The second context for the phenomenon is the professional role of clergy, a religious vocation and culture of which I am a part. While the preponderance of sources cited in this bibliography reflect those two settings, the intent is to be as comprehensive as possible about sexual boundary violations within the religious community. Many of the books included in this bibliography were obtained through interlibrary loan services that are available at both U.S. public and academic libraries. Many of the articles that are listed were obtained through academic libraries. Sara Branch ABSTRACT Despite the recent increase in focus on workplace bullying by both researchers and practitioners, there is still considerable confusion as to how workplace bullying is similar or different to other counter-productive behaviours in the workplace. However, in order for researchers and practitioners to be able to research, prevent and address workplace bullying, it needs to be identified clearly and differentiated from other counterproductive behaviours. Within this paper we explore the similarities and differences between the concept of workplace bullying and alternative terms like incivility and harassment. We argue it is the persistency of the inappropriate behaviours is the primary difference between workplace bullying and other counter-productive behaviours. This paper contributes to the discussion of ‘Can we differentiate workplace bullying?’ by adapting Andersson and Pearson’s (1999) model of antisocial behaviours. Findings from an interview study are also used to further clarify these definitional questions.

    Written evidence submitted by the End Violence Against Women Coalition (CVD0031) About the End Violence Against Women Coalition The End Violence Against Women Coalition is a UK-wide coalition of more than 85 women’s organisations and others working to end violence against women and girls (VAWG) in all its forms, including: sexual violence, domestic violence, forced marriage, sexual exploitation, FGM, stalking and harassment. We campaign for improved national and local government policy and practice in response to all forms of violence against women and girls, and we challenge the wider cultural attitudes that tolerate violence against women and girls and make excuses for it. Our trustees include women who are globally renowned for their pioneering work in setting up the first domestic and sexual violence crisis services, for their academic research in this area, and for having successfully campaigned for considerable legislative and policy change in the UK to end and prevent abuse over the last four decades. Summary We have serious concerns about the vulnerability of disabled women and girls in the context of VAWG and the coronavirus pandemic. We have seen an increase in reports of domestic abuse during this crisis, as lockdown has provided a conducive context for abuse. We believe that disabled people in their own home with a partner, family members, paid or unpaid care workers or personal assistants, or in ‘a home’ with paid workers and very little external oversight have been particularly at high risk of abuse. There are also particular barriers disabled women face in not being able to leave the home if in an abusive relationship.

  • The Consequences of Bullying in Schools
    Bullying in Schools Brader Adaleine Brathwaite At the dawn of 2007, I continue to be haunted by mental pictures of the consequences of bullying in schools. These images may be triggered by the repeated eruptions of violence in schools, as well as by emerging information linking bullying in schools to domestic violence in the home, professional abuse in the workplace, and even police brutality in societies. Bullying is now viewed as a form of harassment between peers, perpetrated by someone who would like to be seen as more powerful, physically and/or socially, than a perceived weaker person. Indelible memories recall that bullying scores were once settled in the primary school by an event on the way from school on a Friday afternoon. Having safely placed all books in a heap on the ground, a group of spectator-pupils would then surround the bully and bullied who, as pugilists, would fix the matter to the chant of “heave, heave.” Nowadays, bullying adopts two postures—one is direct, the other indirect. In the direct mode, physical aggression is detected among schoolmates through fighting, kicking, pelting, cuffing, slapping, or spitting. In the indirect form, bullying is rather subtle and is detected among adolescents as mocking, spreading false rumours, or ridiculing peers about religion, dress, or lack of brand-name wear. Of late, students also extort snacks, lunch or lunch money, cell phones, “brands” and other bling, or even make victims tote their heavy book bags. Gangs are formed when bullies or their victims begin to recruit fan members. The national component of the Caribbean Adolescent Health Survey in 1998 indicated that, 10.3 percent of the representative sample of 1,000 students, within the age group 10- 19 years, were involved in fights where weapons such as guns, knives, or razors were used; and 6 percent reported having threatened a teacher.
