If you would prefer a specific time slot please let us know – either 10:30am or 11:00am OTHER INFO: Why the Spinnaker Tower? The tower, at a height of 170 m above sea level, is 2..5 times as high as Nelson's Column, making it one of the tallest accessible structures in the United Kingdom outside London. The tower is visible for miles around Portsmouth, changing the horizon of the area. It can be seen from the Isle of Wight, the Manhood Peninsula and even Highdown Gardens in Worthing. The tower represents sails billowing in the wind; a design accomplished using two large, white, sweeping metal arcs, which give the tower its spinnaker sail design. At the top is a triple observation deck, providing a 360° view of the city of Portsmouth and Portsmouth harbours, and a viewing distance of 23 miles. The highest of the three observation platforms, the Sky Deck, has only a wire mesh roof, so visitors are open to the elements. The windows extend above head height, so it is not possible to get a view unobstructed by glass. A glass floor is located on the first viewing deck at 100 metres above sea level. How do I know if I can complete the abseil? You are responsible for ensuring that you are in a fit state to participate in the abseil and are able to participate in a manner which will not put at risk your health & safety or the health & safety of bystanders below you. If you have any conditions or concerns that may impact your ability to safely complete the abseil which you have not notified us of in advance, then you should notify us on the day of your visit. We will use reasonable endeavours to make arrangements to facilitate your abseil, however, taking into account your health & safety and those around you we reserve the right, without refund, to refuse permission to participate in the abseil if we believe it would jeopardise your health & safety or that of other participants. Are there any age or height restrictions? The minimum age for abseilers is 18 years old. A maximum weight limit of 21.5 stone also applies. Can I abseil if I'm pregnant? Unfortunately not. The harness is quite snug and the abseil can be physically demanding. Is abseiling accessible for disabled guests? Guests are requested to address specific access requirements in advance of their booking by contacting [email protected] or phoning 023 9285 7521. We will always endeavour to accommodate special access requirements. Due to the nature of abseiling down Emirates Spinnaker Tower and our obligations to the health & safety of all our guests, there may be times when we are unable to accommodate your specific needs. I've got a fear of heights. Can I still abseil? Yes, we will do everything we can to reassure you in the lead up to and when completing your abseil. However, to respect the experience of our other abseilers, you must begin your abseil within 10 minutes of your allotted time slot once at the departure point. If another slot is available on the same day, we can reschedule the abseil; otherwise it will be cancelled with no refund. We do not recommend the abseil to anyone with vertigo. Will I need any training before I complete my abseil? Yes, but it is all part of the experience on the day. You’ll be given a safety briefing up on the view decks where you’ll meet your guides. They’ll give you tips and answer any questions you may have. What do I do on the day of my abseil? Make your way to our reception desk to check in and full instructions will be given. Make sure you wear sensible shoes (no open toes, heels etc.) and wear non-restrictive clothing. Dress appropriately for the weather – it can be cold up there! .
